3.5 Stars The first book in the Blackwell-Lyon series, Lovely Little Liar is a quick read with entertaining characters. A little predictable but with passionate romance and a good storyline I would still recommend you pick this up as an in between sexy read. |

3.75 stars-- LOVELY LITTLE LIAR is the first instalment and novella in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult, Blackwell-Lyon erotic romance series. This is security specialist Pierce Blackwell, and PA Jezebel Stuart’s story line. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s best selling Stark, and Man of the Month series. NOTE: LOVELY LITLE LIAR was first published as Bitch Slap in June 2017. Lovely Little Liar contains expanded content not found in the original release. Told from first person point of view (Pierce Blackwell) LOVELY LITTLE LIAR follows the building relationship between security specialist Pierce Blackwell, and Jezebel Stuart. Thinking he was meeting his one-night stand, Pierce Blackwell, comes face to face with a woman who believes he is someone else. Enter Jezebel Stuart, the sister and manager of up and coming young but vilified actress Delilah Stuart, and the woman with whom Pierce will fall in love. We are introduced to Jezebel’s sister, Delilah Stuart; Pierce’s sister Kerrie Blackwell, as well as Pierce’s business partners Cayden and Connor. There may be something developing between Kerrie and Connor. Cayden and Connor’s stories are next in Pretty Little Player, and Sexy Little Sinner. BITCH SLAP is a predictable and familiar story line; an erotic, quick building romance between two people who have been hurt by previous relationships. Pierce doesn’t do relationships or love, and the introductory chapters reveal exactly what and who Pierce is looking for. Jezebel Stuart is a woman betrayed by a former lover but a woman who is determined to protect her younger sister from the rabid fans who are currently vilifying the up and coming star. The plotline is a little more fleshed out than the original release. The premise is entertaining; the romance is passionate; the characters are colorful and energetic. J. Kenner always writes a hot engaging romance. Was shorter than I would have liked. It was originally published as the story Bitch Slap. However, it is expanded with new content. |
It's a very mellow type of story. Pierce is a man scared to make a connection with woman because of how he was hurt by one. But his instant interest in Jez draws him to want more with her. To try. Jez has difficulty trusting and letting go of control since she has been protecting and managing her sisters life for years. She is feisty and strong. And Pierce shows her how to put herself first. He is tender and attentive with her. And for both of them jumping into the unknown will pay off if they finally find love. |
Lovely Little Liar was previously released as Bitch Slap but has more content added and expanded scenes. For me, I thought it was okay. I didn't love it but didn't hate it either. |
I so wanted to love this book but it wasn't the case. It was ok but I really had a hard time reading this one because I got bored. I know some will like this more but it just wasn't my cup of tea. |
Different from the other books I have read by J. Kenner, I was taken by surprise. I can’t say in a good way or a bad way however. I did like the story and Kenner’s writing is top notch as usual, but i didn’t feel connected to the characters like I should. I wish the Delilah's character was a little more developed. At the beginning, I thought she was going to be a selfish teenage girl, yet by the end you were applauding her selfless actions. Pierce and Jezebel did have hot chemistry and to me that is what held the book together. Overall a good read. |
Fast paced sexy romance J. Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) has a talent for bringing her characters to life as was evident in Lovely Little Liar. Pierce and Jez's first meet was original and quickly showed a lot of who they are as people. I loved that as the story progresses we learn more amidst the banter and steamy moments. The secondary characters also caught my attention and I look forward to learning more about them in the future books in this series. I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley. |
Pierce Blackwell was jilted just a couple of hours before he was due to marry. This has left him jaded and distrustful of the whole women and romance thing so he’s decided to concentrate on building up Blackwell Lyon, the security company he set up with two ex-army buddies. For fun and relaxation he uses dating apps where women know the score and his social life is basically a series of one night stands. This leads to him meeting Jezebel Stuart, who’s in Austin with Delilah, her actress sister. However things might not be what they seem. This is the start of a new trilogy featuring the men of Blackwell Lyon and is a short, steamy read. The characters are well written and likeable with lots of witty dialogue between them and, despite the book’s brevity, the story doesn’t seem rushed or forced. I’m looking forward to the remaining books in the series. |
Lovely Little Liar is entertaining, and a sweet romance that’s lighthearted, fun, and serious. J. Kenner brings banter and heat as mistaken identity brings these two together. Both are meeting other people, under quite different circumstances, until taken by lust and pure wishful thinking Pierce mistakes Jezebel for his blind date hook-up. After being rejected three hours before his wedding Pierce doesn’t do relationships anymore. He is doesn’t have the time and doesn’t want to put in the effort. But when Jezebel makes a hasty exit, he realizes that just maybe he wanted more with her. Jezebel is looking to hire some security while her sister the actress in town only to get nowhere with the handsome security guy. But when he comes to their rescue a few hours later, when their location is compromised by a hotel employee tweet, Jezebel sees a very different side to him. These two, quickly develop wild cravings and desperate longings for each other. With nightly firing and daily rehiring, of the security hunk, it looks like Pierce just might have found the right one after all. Great short read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
Awesome book! Finished in one day! I’ve loved all of J. Kenner’s books and always look to grab the newest the second it comes out! She’s a master story teller ! |
What's a better match than a PB and J? Nothin. Pierce and Jez are definitely not looking for that happy ever after, and their original meeting is hillarious in their confusion. It gets better the more you look back on it. This was short and fast paced, with almost instalove and crazy good chemistry. I loved it. |
within the ever-expanding stark world, we find the blackwell-lyon agency, a security firm based in austin, run by pierce blackwell and cayden and connor lyon. pierce takes the lead in lovely little liar, and does he fall hard. jezebel stuart is incredibly protective of her sister, delilah. an up-and-coming actress, delilah has made enemies of her fans when she cheats on her celebrity boyfriend. think kristen stewart–robert pattinson level drama. jez needs a security firm to help keep an eye on her sister. when pierce and jez meet, they don't realize they believe the other to be someone else. this meet-cute of misunderstandings is super funny, but also just the right length to work without making the characters seem stupid. once pierce sorts out that he and jez were talking about different things, he also figures out that she needs him. like right now needs him, because there's been a security breach and delilah's location has been disclosed. how he handles things goes a long way to convincing jez that he is worth trusting. a shared acquaintance does the rest. this is a novella, so things amp up pretty quickly. jez and pierce have chemistry to spare and as a series starter this is just the right amount of intriuguing to make you want to read more about these characters. **lovely little liars published on november 6, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/author collective 20 in exchange for my honest review. |
OOH Who is this author and why haven't I read more of their books? I'm going to need to correct that ASAP. Lovely Little Liar was such a fun novella to read, Pierce was just - yummy. It was a quick read, but yet I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mistaken identity, hot security, little push and pull and off the charts chemistry between MC's are the perfect ingredients to a great book. |
I really enjoyed this quick read. Both Pierce and Jezebel are jaded about love, but their attraction is immediate. I enjoyed the dialogue/banter, and the fact that the person the security company is hired to protect isn't the main focus of the story. I did, however, find it unnecessary to have three character names begin with a hard C sound. His partners - twin brothers - Cayden and Connor, and his younger sister Kerrie. Also, in chapter one Pierce describes how his fiance broke off their engagement two weeks before the wedding, and then later he tells Jezebel that it was three hours before the wedding. That's a big difference that someone should have caught. Kenner's writing is clever, clear, and concise. I would have liked the novella to be longer to explore emotions more, but I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this spin-off series. |
ARC received for review Pierce was very hot and very sexy, and oh so perfect for Jezebel. I loved how she would fire him every night, so that could have a lot of hot sex. Then she would hire him back in the morning. Her sister, Delilah, was no slouch even though she was just an new adult. Nice epilogue |
An expanded version from an anthology that went above and beyond the original I loved the additions to the story. A case of mistaken identity that goes way beyond a night rolling around in the sheets. This had some suspense, lots of lovin and a hottie. Can't go wrong with this! |
It’s been a few years since I’ve read a book by this author. I figured diving in to a novella would be a good way to get reacquainted with her words. First, this is told in Pierces POV so I was already on board. Male POV is one of my biggest jams. For a novella, where things have to move a wee bit faster, I didn’t mind the insta-love after about a day that Pierce and Jez spent together. They had some pretty good chemistry going on. Overall I thought it was a pretty good story. |
3.5 stars Cute novella with a little bit of steam here and there. I loved the way it started out. I was hooked when the date/not really a date ended. The chemistry between Pierce and Jez was there, but then it fell a little flat for me. This is still a fun, quick read and if you’re into insta-love you’ll enjoy this story. |
Romantic, Sexy and Old Friends....J. Kenner's Lovely Little Liar is an in credible book. The broody Pierce Blackwell meets Jezibel Stuart the meetings confused - until he figures it out and rides in to the rescue. Pierce and Jez - well their chemistry is combustible, but he's not a relationship kind of guy. Jez can indulge in Pierce while she's her because her life is beside her sister. You just can't put this book down to see what happens next - you also get references and an appearance from characters from the World of Stark! That's we love J. Kenner, she so rocked it! |
