I wasn't quite connecting with this one and I had to DNF with the possibility of picking up in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book and I apologize for the inconvenience.

I just didn’t get around to this one in time! The cover still stuns me, and we always need more Arctic settings in romance, so hopefully I have placed it on the TBR for now.

I jumped on this one because who doesn’t love Kellan? I’ll read any book Stephens writes.

So it’s a good book but my problem is I was hoping for another Kellan. This is definitely not it. It’s slow burn with not much angst. I did love the setting and Michael though.

This was a well written book but I found the plot boring. This was very much a romance novel with likeable characters

ARC thanks to Netgalley
I loved SC Stephens, Thoughtless series so much I was really excited to read something new by her and this synopsis sounded right up my alley. I love survival stories and have always been fascinated by stories set in Alaska, which this is. Thus the “Northern lights”. This book has all I look for in this type of story with a good balance of survival details and romance. This was just what I was looking for and I read it in one sitting.

Thanks so mich for early access this was a tremendous read. An author that beings so much of modern living into the most compelling of stories. Highly recommend this book and will be watching for more thanks

I hard a hard time believing this book was written by the same author who wrote the Thoughtless series. The same author who had made me fall in love with reading again. Although this is a good story it was a little drawn out. The religious undertones threw me for a loop, though I wasn't discouraged by this, the writing itself just felt way different from the author I had read in the past. I will definitely pick up the next book written by this author.

UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS was not at all what I was expecting. The story flowed smoothly from the first page to the last and immersed me in all the characters’ action and adventure. Set in Alaska and Idaho, the book made it hard not to get swept up into the story.

Mallory photographs wild animals in Alaska and lives all year for her annual trip to the remote area. She pilots her own small plane to get in and out of the area she visits, but this year when a storm hits enroute, tragedy strikes and her plane crashes. She’s injured, loses most of her supplies and luggage and tries to survive as best she can. What ensues makes up the bulk of the story, especially since she doesn’t expect to be rescued by a mountain man.

Michael has hidden in Alaska as a survivalist after tragedy struck him in NYC where he lived five years ago. We learn about his past and how he manages to survive the way he does. Mallory tries to break down his defenses, especially when she finds out she’s attracted to him.

The attraction between Mallory and Michael unfolds, and it’s interesting to see how both of them dealt with it. No matter how rational Mallory is in her arguments to get Michael out of Alaska, he doesn’t seem to hear her. They work well together on a day to day basis, sharing chores and their life stories. There are some romantic scenes that had a realism to them given their circumstances. The story resolves nicely, though I would have welcomed an epilogue. But all in all, UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS is a satisfying and romantic read.

Ms. Stephens is a new-to-me author, and I look forward to reading more of her books including the Thoughtless series, since without much effort I was transported to Alaska in this book. I hope for more of this style of writing.

I have chosen not to read/review this title as I was not able to connect with it or recommend it to the readers of our blog page or those who follow my reviews on Goodreads.

I apologize for the delay in this, as sending the negative reviews is something I (clearly) avoid doing for an embarrassingly long time.

Thank you, as always, for the review title.

Laura

This really could’ve been a solid read, but I just wasn’t a big fan of the religious aspects of the book.

I have been a huge fan of SC Stephens since Thoughtless and I was so thrilled to see a new title from her. This book pulled me into it because of the photography aspect of it. Being into nature photography myself, I was excited to see that a character in a book I was reading, finally was a photographer! The story is captivating and the characters are very well developed. SC has done it again and given us an amazing love story!

This was a solid book. I wasn’t too crazy about the religious aspect of this novel but overall it was a good book. I liked the romance, the characters, and thought the writing was good. I’m definitely interested in reading more from this author.

Under the Northern Lights centres around Mallory and Michael. Mallory’s passion is photography, seeing animals in their natural habitat and the shift nature faces through the different seasons and circumstances. Every year Mallory travels deep into Alaska, every time it has gone according to plan until the latest one. Finding herself alone and vulnerable in the Alaskan wilderness, Mallory finds her worst fears coming true until a mysterious man, named Michael, arrives. Saving her life and offering her shelter until it's safe for Mallory to leave and return back home, both soon begin to form an unforgettable bond.

This was an extremely gripping tale of survival, hope, and love. From beginning to end, it held my attention and made me want to know what was going to happen next to both Mallory and Micheal. It was intense, complicated, and exciting to read as we saw walls crumble down and characters become more vulnerable with themselves and with others. I also throughly enjoyed reading the slow burn relationship between Mallory and Michael, the feeling of hope in the face of the many circumstances brought into a person's life. The only complaint I have is that I would have enjoyed reading a few chapters in Micheal's perspective and I felt the ending was a bit rushed along. Nonetheless, Under the Northern Lights was a highly enjoyable read and one I would recommend picking up and checking out.

eARC was kindly provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Mallory is on her way to the Alaskan wild. She does this every year. She goes up to take pictures of wild animals. That's her job and her passion. But this year the weather is not on her side - an unforeseen storm makes her crash the plane. She has to fight injuries, bears, wolves, and the horrible cold weather for a very dangerous while. But then she's saved by Michael. He heard the plane go down and made his way through the snow to see what's going on.

This was definitely an adventurous read and there were times I was sitting at the edge of my seat. The romance part was a bit too slow burn for me though. It wasn't anything like the "Thoughtless" series. That's not to say that it wasn't good, just very different. I also wasn't a Mallory fan. She came off as a bit pushy and I really don't like that trade in my heroines. It reeks of desperation. And I have to say, the religion parts-not a huge fan. But I suppose this really can't be Christian Romance.

I love a good romance but prefer a book with a bit more to it than just a love story. Under the Northern Lights had me gripped from the start. I loved it all, the terror, the despair, the determination to survive. The blossoming relationship between the heroine and her saviour. It was poignant and I shed a tear or two. I enjoyed the characters, despite the heroines rash decisions which often left her in peril. And the hero's tale I found a little bit unbelievable at times. Despite this I thoroughly enjoyed it, except the ending which I found a little hurried, but this may be due to the fact that I didnt want it to end. A well written tale, tastefully done. I will definitely read this author again.

I wanted to love this one, I love Alaskan set romances but I struggled to get into the storyline for Under the Northern Lights. I found there to be too much religious/faith talk going on, I think others may enjoy it but I did not. DNF at 43%

Whilst I enjoyed the first books by this author I’m saddened to say this one wasn’t for me. The story just didn’t hold my interest or attention long enough to want to finish it. And while it wasn’t the right book for me, that doesn’t mean I don’t believe that other people will hate it, they might get something from it that I didn’t.
