This was a really twisted book with a lot of secrets revealed slowly. Maggie is the bride to be who has a bachelorette party at her friend Carole Ann’s house. Attending are their other friends including Angie, Kelly, and Suzanne. There are six friends in all, some more well-developed in the plot than others. Maggie is about to marry wealthy socialite Flynn, but she isn’t exactly ready for the upcoming nuptials. Suzanne is having an affair and Angie ends up dead at the end of the night of bar hopping. I was not totally engaged in the plot because there was a lot of changing of the Point of View and sometimes that was a little difficult to follow about who was who since there were so many young women who were central to the story. I did like the countdown to the wedding day and the final reveal of who killed Angie. This book was an okay read but not one that I would want to highly recommend because of the mature sexual scenes and the unlikely plot. Fans of mystery or suspense may enjoy it, though, because it is original with some of the plot twists and the countdown to the wedding. |
Shifting voices as narrative strategy is ambitious and varied out brilliantly here .. characters are revealed to us and essential to following plot, and their personalities, especially the close female friends engaged with sorting out murder of one of the cadre after a hard boozy night out partying, theres a vindictive Male at the centre of this (but that's all I'm saying) but this is brilliant , captivating work. Unputdownable too .. |
A Hen Party that goes badly wrong. It's an accident waiting to happen...and it does, but it's no accident. Using a popular format of differing viewpoints The Last Night Out keeps you guessing until the end. Fast paced with lots of twists and turns. A good read if you don't mind staying up all night to finish it! 4 stars |
You think you’re having a bad night?... could be worst and losing a good friend in the process. Maggie and her friends take a closer close...who could be the murder of their friend. Very on your toes thriller. Great story that will keep your mind active. |
Loved it. I need to read more Catherine O Connell books. Twists and turns every step of the way. A real page turner, not one secret but lots with something new happening on nearly every page. |

An interesting thriller with the story being told from the viewpoints of the different characters. A murder takes place and we hear lies and half truths from various characters as they protect the secrets they hold. Some twists and turns keep the reader entertained though I found parts of the story a little unbelievable. Nevertheless I would recommend this book as an enjoyable read. |

What a night, a Hen Party where the bride to be gets drunk and ends up sleeping with someone who was at the club half of them finished up at for the end of the night. Also forgot to mention one of the group got murdered, so the six long term friends from school days become five. Thisbookhad me hooked quite early on, It has lots of twists and turns although it is easy to keep up with and doesn't get confusing as some stories do. The ending is a surprise but there are surprises throughout the book that make it into a good story. |

An interesting and engaging thriller, The Last Night Out by Catherine O'Connell depicts the events between a bachelorette party and a wedding - and the two weeks are quite eventful. Maggie wakes on the morning after her party to a ringing phone, and a man sleeping alongside her who is not her fiance. The persistent ringing is a friend calling to inform her that one of the other friends has been found murdered. TOld in alternating voices of the bride, Maggie, and her friends, the reader learns about their various lives and their various lies. Occasional chapters focused on the Chicago Homicide Detective assigned to the unraveling all the lies and solving the case. Some of the twists were foreseeable, others not as much. A quick read with surprises throughout. Some of the action and narration come across as not realistic, especially given the setting of 1988. |
Thank you to NetGalley, Catherine O'Connell and Black Thorn for this free book. This book was just ok to me. Maybe I've read too many thriller suspense novels, but I honestly thought this one would be better. The ending was a complete letdown, and felt like the whole story built up to a disappointing end. |

Excellent, fast paced thriller. A bachelorette party goes horribly awry when one of the attendees ends up murdered. As the police start their investigation they find all the women who attended the party are hiding details for different reasons. Excellent character development and many plot twists make this book impossible to put down. As you get to know the different characters you can understand their behavior even if you don’t agree with it. The epilogue made the book even better (if that’s possible.) |

When Anna is found dead in the park the morning after her friend Maggies hen night so begins a storu of secrets, lies and deciets Absilutely loved this ..... |
Lots of perspectives leave you guessing who might have killed the bridesmaid a week before the wedding. These four friends and their intertwined lives lend a lot of texture to this Chicago murder mystery. After lots of red herrings, just when you think the end is clear, comes a coda that flips ones perspective around. What a bachelorette party! Read this on a long flight and it definitely kept me awake and entertained. Have to admit that I didn’t love any of the 6 women as they seemed shallow to me, but I did enjoy the reveals about them which explained some of the dynamics between them. Premise was so promising...Many thanks to Catherine O’Connell, Severn House Publishers, and NetGalley for providing me with a kindle version of this book to review. |

This was an enjoyable story. Six friends get together for a bachelorette party and the next morning one of the women, Angie, is discovered murdered. The story alternates between five of the women and the investigation into Angie's death; the sixth, Natasha, is hardly mentioned at all and appears to be the friend you make because your mother knows her mother and so you have to tolerate her. None of the five women is the killer, but events that occurred that night that involved some or all of them may hold clues to the killer's identity. Each of the women has her own issue that she is dealing with in the two weeks leading up to the wedding for the bride-to-be Maggie. Because of the different relationships between four of the women (as Angie dies in the beginning of the book and Natasha is hardly mentioned), the information they share with each other differs. For example, Carol Anne and Maggie know much more about the issues each other is dealing with than do Suzanne and Kelly. Kelly, who came across the body of Angie while out on her run, and who disturbed an active crime scene when she realized whose body all the gawkers were staring at, is constantly pestering the two homicide detectives about the case. The other women are trying to be helpful, but not too helpful because they have their own secrets to protect, which may or may not be related to Angie's death. The limited sharing of information causes increased problems and misunderstandings and ultimately places one of the women in danger. The characters are enjoyable and the plot is creative, with some interesting and amusing twists and turns, and some rather good surprises at the end. The book is worth reading. I received a copy of the e-book via NetGalley in exchange for a review. |

Enjoyed this book. Kept me interested all the way through. Would recommend to a fellow reader. Love the cover. |
I found myself drawn more and more into the lives of these seemingly disparate friends. The story is well written and subtly plotted. My husband asked me what I was reading and what it was about - I realised when I started to tell him, how intricate and clever the story was. I think he’s intrigued enough to read it himself! |
Wow. What a bachelorette party this was! One friend ends up murdered and there are MANY secrets, twists, and turns. I like the author’s wring style and her characterizations. The characters made for a gripping read. Many thanks to Black Thorn and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion. |
Well what a party this ended up been! So it’s your hen party and you end up having a one night stand (not great) then it gets even worse and you get a call to say your friend was also murdered that night and where were you! Hmmmm you’d obviously rather not say, but all the women here have secrets, they keep things from the police and so that screws the investigation up and to top it off, your mates killer is stalking you all... What a brilliant read this was! Totally gobbled it up in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it too. Loved the storyline and the characters and really enjoyed the book. More please as soon as possible! |

Trouble after a bachelorette party! When five close friends celebrate the upcoming nuptials of one of their own, they start a chain of events that ends in tragedy and the reveal of secrets. There are MANY different viewpoints in this book; each chapter signifies a change in perspective, including some characters who seem to be only a small factor in the story. But are they? Some of the characters are not always likeable, but they are portrayed as complex, which is realistic. Overall, the story kept me engaged and there were definitely some twists and turns I did not see coming. I would definitely read this author again. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange of a fair and honest review. |
