The writing in this book is incredible! The story telling is very engaging and kept me wanting more. The plot was interesting and unpredictable. I would recommend this to a friend! |
A very inventive psychological thriller that kept me guessing right to the end. This book was thought out brilliantly and had so many twists it left me dizzy. Nothing turned out the way I expected. The characters interacted beautifully with one another and were realistic and believable. Definitely one for the bookshelves. |
The death of a friend the night after your hen...a mysterious stranger, a dalliance, a dangerous liaison or two and some revelations about the groups of friends that surprise them all. Maggie awakes the morning after her hen party to the news that one of her friends has been found murdered in the park, despite having been dropped home by one of the others in the group in the early hours of the morning- drunk but apparently safe. I particularly loved the investigating officers in this book- they were so dryly written and so well described that you could feel the tension rising each time their names appeared on a page- and everyone seemed to have something to hide from the police, leading the reader to suspect all the wrong people! The plot thicken and twists with each chapter until the truth is revealed. A great read! |

I received this as an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a great book. I was kept guessing throughout, which is great for a mystery. The characters are developed, but not overdone and the book moves quickly. This would be a good book for a book club or a beach. Enjoy! |

Interesting book with some twists and turns and some moments you really wanted to shake your head at some of the dumb things taking place. |

I was provided an ARC of The Last Night Out by Catherine O'Connell in exchange for an honest opinion. "I wonder how many outcomes have hinged on such cringeworthy moments: how many lives have been indelibly changed as a result of one misstep." After attending a bachelorette party for Maggie, the group on longtime friends decide to have one last brouhaha before her wedding. As a result, madness ensues. I don't want to give away too much because it would spoil the story. Needless to say, this story had me hooked from the beginning. There was always a sense of speculation as to what would happen next and to whom. No one was safe from the insanity. Most of the characters were multifaceted...flawed yet likable and relatable so that made the story flow much easier. This is a wild ride full of unexpected twists and turns that your head will be spinning. I honestly had a hard time putting the book down once I started. A very engrossing, thrilling read. I did notice a few minor editing issues but they didn't distract from the story. |
Omg I loved this book. It kept me hanging til the very end. Those women certainly caught the rough end of a bargain for sure!! Carol with her philandering husband-that was a shock! Maggie doing the dirty days before her wedding! Poor Suzanne! Gotta love Kelly and Ron!! Twists turns and suspense. But is the killer still roaming or not?? Read it to find out!!!! Amazing book. |

Six long time friends get together for Maggie’s bachelorette party. The next morning, one of them is found dead and Maggie has done something that is sure to change her life forever. This is a well written, engrossing read. The character development is good and although you may think you have it all figured out…..read on!!! |
This started out a little slow for me when it finally into the real story line I was able to get into the book and really sit and read it and finish it. |

It is only days from Maggie’s wedding. Instead of immersing herself in her wedding’s details, she has a one-night-stand with a handsome carpenter. Why did she do that? What if she becomes pregnant from this encounter? Not the type of thing a bride-to-be should be worried about. To add to the mess she has created, her friend with whom she had gone drinking was found dead. Was it her fault? Should she have insisted Angie stay with her and sleep it off? Was the murderer someone she knew? Should she tell her fiancé Flynn about her fling? If she’s pregnant, should she let Flynn believe it’s his baby? Many of her friends are harboring secrets and everything is not what it seems. As the police work the case questioning each person’s whereabouts when the murder occurred, Maggie is worried her indiscretion will be discovered. More and more information surfaces and the novel ends with an observation and a question. I received a free copy of The Last. Night Out and am voluntarily supplying my review. |
Have you ever read a story you’re not sure you want to finish, but yet can’t put it down because you need to know what exactly is happening? I stuck it out and really enjoyed this story even though I was worried about being bored at the beginning. Getting to know Maggie, Suzanne, Carol Anne, and Kelly was a journey and some things never get answered, but you aren’t left wondering. I definitely recommend this story for anyone who likes a bit of mystery. |

A stylish, masterful plotline with many twists and turns. I really enjoyed it and the dark humour added to it. I would recommend this book to others, thank you for the chance to review it. |

This was a bit of a mix of an Jackie Collins-esque story and a pacey thriller. This keeps you guessing right up to the last line and beyond. Really liked the female characters and got a real sense of their history together. The thriller aspect was quite tense and I would never have guessed whodidit! |
Six friends, whose friendship spanned twenty years, get together to celebrate the pending marriage of one of the group. Their friendship had stayed strong throughout high school and college and now that they were in their thirties and either working or raising children, the time they spent together was limited but their bond was tight. The party was full of shared memories, funny stories, lots of wine and even a stripper. Despite the gaiety of the party, by mid evening, the festivities were winding down. Three friends decide to continue the party at a couple of bars downtown. The next morning, only five of the friends wake up. I loved the book and the characters. The author gives up in depth descriptions of the girls and their lives that bring the characters alive. Most of the girls have followed their dreams and have are fairly successful in their lives and careers. There are lots of twists and turns and secrets galore that are uncovered as the investigation into the death unfolds. This story has elements of true friendship, true love, unbridled passion, suspense, and the questions of how far would someone go to protect someone they love. The story builds in intensity and the conclusion was a shocker. Their last night out together began a period of revelation and change for each of the girls that redefined their lives. Thank-you to Netgalley, Blackthorn Books and Catherine O'Connell for an ARC in exchange for a honest review. Review will be posted to Amazon, Goodreads and Kobo. |
Thanks to Netgalley and Black Thorn for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I am giving this one 4.5 stars and I am excited that it finally broke me out of the sort of book slump I had been in. In this book, Maggie tells the story of what happened at her bachelorette party and leading up to her wedding back in the 80's, when one of her good friends was murdered and lots of secrets were revealed about the remaining group of 5 friends. This one was just a little slow to start for me. I always have issues keeping the characters straight in books like this, where there were 6 friends to keep straight in addition to husbands, boyfriends etc. In this case I actually got them straight more quickly than usual and I think that is to the author's credit because shortly after introducing a character, she gave the back story on that person and that helped me remember who was who. There were so many people who could have been guilty and so many side stories going on, that were actually entertaining, that I had no idea who was guilty and what their motive was. I was totally surprised. I thought this was a really good book. |

A wonderful novel of six friends out for a bachelorette night when something goes horribly awry. Some secrets are kept and others revealed. I really enjoyed the characters and the story had plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion. |
I really liked this book so much! Initially it started out as a romance novel and while I enjoy those, it's not my favorite genre. This had it all! There was a mystery that really I could not figure out until the very end. The characters were multi faceted and complicated. It really had everything! I highly recommend it and would love to read another book from this author! I hope they're more to come. |

Loved this book. I couldn't put it down. It was not a book I would not normally have chosen this type of story line but how wrong was I.....well done to this author. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to review this book. |
The Hangover meets Sex in the City ! A quick if eventful read, that will appeal greatly to those who like domestic detail in their crime novels. The lives of the girls are critically examined and at the heart is a murder Read it and find out what happens |
Best book I’ve read all year. Couldn’t have enjoyed it more!! I lost some sleep, because I couldn’t put it down |
