Book synopsis

Six friends. A bride to be. One murder. Too many secrets.

After drinking too much at her bachelorette party, Maggie Trueheart wakes to find a stranger in her bed. To make matters worse, a phone call brings the devastating news that her friend Angie was murdered some time after they parted ways the night before.

Kelly Delaney, who left the party early, is the first of Maggie's friends to face questions from Chicago homicide detective Ron O'Reilly. After taking a closer look at the other women who attended the party, O'Reilly concludes that at least some of them are lying.

As the clock ticks down to the wedding day and more shocking secrets are revealed, the murderer zeros in on another one of the girls. Can the killer be stopped before there is another victim?

My thoughts:

rating:2

Would I recommend it ?no

Would I read anything else by this author?I would give her a second try

First off I do have to it its slow going and that it takes a while for it to build up, plus not a single character was likable , and I do mean not a one, everyone had secrets that they wanted to keep, and their lies just kept building and building, but while the story is slowing and the characters are all dislikeable, it did keep my interest throughout the book, and made me want to know more of everybody dirty little secrets. In fact it was only the dark secrets that kept me reading it even though there at the every end you get the answers there still felt like something was missing . With that said I would like to think Netgalley for letting me read and review it , exchange for my honest opinion.

This book is a twisted psychological thriller and was a very enjoyable read!

The more I read of this one, the more I felt like I had read it before. Sure enough, I had, and I didn't care any more for it this time around than the first. So, I'm adding that review here. The eye-catching cover for this one caught my eye, and the blurb sounded so promising that I dove right in. The first chapter was quite compelling, but things rapidly declined from there. Yes, there are secrets, lots of secrets, and everyone is suspect. However, instead of a gripping psychological thriller, the story became more like women's fiction. A who's cheating who group of thirty something women who desperately need to grow up. We do have a murder thrown in, but with so many points of view from characters who aren't particularly likable, it was hard to care much about the outcome. There is a twist at the end, and I'll admit that I didn't figure this one out, but after setting the book aside so many times, it was too little, too late. To sum it up, The Last Night Out was more an exercise in frustration than the gripping thriller I was hoping for.

The Last Night Out by Catherine O'Connell is a thriller about six friends who attend a bachelorette party, and one friend was found dead the next morning. This book is a fast-paced story with twist and turns around every corner. This book was just OK for me, the mystery was good, but I didn't really care about the characters. I will be reading this author again though. If you like light thrillers, than give this one a try.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

The Last Night Out flowed good and it kept my attention. It keeps you in suspense wondering who committed the murder. I would recommend the book. This is a new author for me and one I would be interested in reading her other books.

Definitely a unique read about a woman who ends up dead after her close friend's bachelorette party. Aside from some horrible stereotypes about Italian Americans in the crime world (give me a break-we are not all thugs) and Irish Americans alcohol issues I really liked the story. The race to find Angie's killer went in about ten different directions--was it Carol Anne's husband, Suzanne's married lover, Maggie's one night stand, Angie's estranged cheater husband, Natasha's philandering husband, etc, etc? Quite a big list to choose from of characters who are very flawed and just plain nasty. In any event, I liked the writing enough to overlook some of the cliché's and give this 4 out of 5 stars.

I would recommend to anyone who likes chick lit mystery's and does not mind a bit of shallowness in the characters and the storyline.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for a chance to read and review this book.

I really enjoyed reading this book,I liked the friendship between the characters, and I had no idea who did what.I thought it was very believable and well written. The pace was good and so was the story.I also liked the ending ,I liked the way it was done tying up most of the loose ends and without giving anything away,I don't do spoilers, I sometimes wish more writers would do that. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC.

A Bachelorette party, six girl friends, a one night stand, and of course a murder... What's not to love? This was an excellently twister thriller. I loved the different personalities and points of view of the girls and how relatable they were. I found this was fast paced and a smooth ride throughout. The plot was originally and kept me guessing until the very end. The climax had me on the edge of my seat and in all my guessing throughout the book did I picture that ending. I would definitely recommend this one!

'The Last Night Out' follows the story of a group of 6 friends and the events around and after Maggie's (one of the 6 friends) bachelorette party. The morning after the night before becomes a living nightmare for Maggie when she awakes to find a man in her bed who is not her husband-to-be and then quickly discovers that another of the group of friends, Angie, has been found dead in a local park and it is quickly established that she was murdered.
The story continues with secrets and lies being exposed along the way before the climax when the killer is revealed. I did not see the reveal coming at all which definitely added to my enjoyment of this book.
A pretty enjoyable read and an author that I will look forward to reading in future.
Many thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the advance review copy.

This is like the adult written story of the bachelorette gone wrong! I pictured it in my head as the grown up pretty little liars story. Overall, it was not very surprising or shocking and I felt the characters to be inconsistent.

I did enjoy this book, it was a bit different. A story of friendship and loyalty and the tale of what can go wrong with just a few simple mistakes in life.

I felt that this was a book for the modern woman who can relate to the circumstances that created the Last Night Out.

Kelly, Suzanne, Carol Ann, Natasha and Angela are celebrating the upcoming marriage of their friend Mary Margaret "Maggie" Trueheart to her affluent boyfriend Flynn.
After the bachelorette party, Maggie wakes up in bed with an attractive stranger. Steve Kaufman is a carpenter she met while clubbing after her party.
Luckily Flynn is out of town, so Maggie is hoping he won't find out.
That same morning she gets the news that Angela was murdered sometime the same night. She was highly intoxicated and went home in a cab shared with Suzanne, but left her house again for an unknown reason. Her badly damaged body is found in Lincoln Park.
Set in the 80's the story follows how each friend is affected by the murder, and how they try and figure out who killed her.
And as Maggie hides her indiscretion, will she still end up getting married?
This lively romantic thriller will keep you guessing till the end! Packed with surprises, the intriguing storyline captivated and entertained me!
4.5 stars, rounded down to 4 stars.

Six old friends wake up the morning after a bachelorette party celebration to find that one of them was murdered.

I struggled with this one... I just didn’t like or relate to any of the characters and none of them were interesting enough in a bad way to compensate for that.

You’ll wonder for the first two thirds of the book why it takes place when it does, and when you find out, it just seemed like a lot of effort for limited use.

While the reveal was interesting enough, the epilogue and the bit at the end took a wrecking ball to that and the rest of the book, and not in any good way. I don’t remember the last time I disliked an ending that much, so since the rest of the book was passable, I’m going to pretend it didn’t exist.

Wow. What a crazy ride this book was. I found the plot a breath of fresh air to other psychological thrillers wth a similar premise. The twists and turns I did not see coming. Which I love. A great gripping page turner

This book was heading for all the stars. It was everything I needed from a read and I was whizzing through it at a rate of knots. All the way until the end. I thought it was all over and I was very happy with how things panned out. But then there was more and, to be honest, I could have really done without the way the author finished it all up as it seemed to come a little out of left field, and also a little unnecessary as it took the shine off a tad for me. Maybe it's my fault for missing something. Not sure...
Anyway, Maggie is getting hitched. She is on her hen night with her long-time friends when she makes a bad call. Instead of just going home alone, she finds herself waking up with a stranger in her bed. If that wasn't enough for her to cope with, an early call from one of her friends brings much more devastating news as she learns that another friend was murdered not long after they parted company the night before. And so begins a twisted tale, so jam-packed full of secrets, lies and duplicitous behaviour that Detective Ron O'Reilly has his work very much cut out in trying to piece together what really happened on that Last Night Out.
I do love me a good psychological thriller. And this (apart from the aforementioned ultimate ending) was definitely in that category. We have thrills and spills aplenty, weaved between all the secrets and lies that certain characters exhibited. I found my head spinning at one point as I tried to make sense of it all and was definitely caught out on more than one occasion.
Charaterisation was very well executed. A mammoth task given the complex nature of the majority of the cast but there was enough of their true natures peeking through to give me a lifeline to being able to connect to them well enough to care what happened, even if I didn't like (m)any of them.
A fair chunk of the early parts of the book was dedicated to character background and scene setting which did slightly frustrate me, especially as there was a lot of noise to cut through to get to the truth. I think we had the full whammy of dysfunctions spread between the characters in the secrets they were keeping! I'd have definitely called "house" if I was playing thriller bingo!
All in all, despite certain misgivings, this was a solid read for me which in no way has put me off the author. I'll be interested in seeing what and how she serves up next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

In Chicago in 1988, bride-to-be Maggie is enjoying her bachelorette party with 5 of her closest friends. She has a blast - but ends up with a man in her bed the next morning. Even more tragic, one of her 5 friends, Angie, has been murdered. This story follows the 5 remaining friends as secrets and dark pasts are revealed to uncover what really happened to their friend.
I really enjoyed this book! It was thrilling, dark and twisty. It kept me guessing until the end! I loved that it was set in the 1980s as it is a beloved decade to me.
Thank you to Catherine O'Connell, Black Thorn and NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

I gave this book 20% in and was hoping it would grab my interest, but I feel so bad saying that I did not enjoy this book. The characters were rather annoying and self-loathing. I actually couldn't stand listening to them. I wish you best of luck with this book, it just wasn't for me.
Thank you for my copy in exchange for my honest review.

A gripping read, constantly twisting and turning. The Last Night Out is brilliantly written, I felt I knew each of the characters and related to them and found myself taking sides . The characters are unravelling right up until the very end. a real page turning engrossing read.
My first by this author but I would love to read more.

3,5 stars.

A bachelorette party that went wrong(or right?) Well, not for all the participants.

Six best friends, six different backgrounds and life stories, too many drinks, a one-night-stand that turned into the best sex ever for a bride to be and a bachelorette party that ended with a murder.

A gripping and entertaining read with many twists and unexpected turns, many point of views and many hidden secrets that would be revealed and that would have been undiscovered if a bachelorette party hadn't gone wrong (or right?).

I am not sure how I feel about this mysterious ending though...It has the both: a WOW- and a WAS-IT-REALLY-NECCESERY-moment.
