In the first part of this book the reader feels the women are the strong characters who have out-smarted the men, but this gradually changes as the book continues. Laced with an increasing fear and pity for the women, despite their criminal acts, La Plante ensures the reader is hooked. She doesn't shy away from the brutality that would be realistic in a plot such as this and the reader could be surprised by several events.
The main characters have their own strong personalities and flaws which helps us to accept the rising tensions and the mistakes they make. The plot is plausible although I did feel it was sometimes a tad unrealistic as they seemed to get away with things just a little too often.
It was difficult to imagine just how La Plante could conclude this but she quite successfully neatens off a few edges, whilst also leaving one unsolved element - perhaps the basis of a future book?
Overall, a gripping read for fans of criminal and detective mysteries.

Thank you to NetGalley and Zaffre Books for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Lynda La Plante is by far my favourite author in this genre. Widows REvenge does not disappoint and brings back the old team which made Widows such a popular book and TV series. I am hoping that this will once again be back on our screens as it deserves to be. A fabulous sequel. Recommended 5 well deserved stars.

Thanks to Net Galley and Zaffre for an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
This is the sequel to Widows which I enjoyed so was looking forward to what would be next for the four woman, Dolly, Shirley, Linda and Bella.
Dolly discovers that her husband Harry is actually alive, she sets out to clean him out, empties bank accounts, sells the house and leaves him with nothing.
There is a spot of bother in Rio and the woman return home where they learn that the bold Harry is planning another large robbery, he is putting together a team and planning to make off with 8 million pounds worth of diamonds! The woman are determined to see Harry’s plans fail and for him to be arrested.
Dolly is not as bossy in this book and we see a different side to her as she softens towards the others.
There is a lot going on To keep the reader guessing and turning the pages, crimes, violence, suspense and deaths and the ending was definitely unexpected.
I didn’t quite enjoy this as much as book one - 3.5 stars.

I remember reading this when I was a teenager. So when Widows' Revenge by Lynda La Plante came available to read on Kindle not an old paperback I jumped at the chance to re read it again.
This book did not disappoint. Its the follow up from Widows. I loved these back then and loved reading them again.
Lynda La Plante is a brilliant author and has written some excellent books over the years and I was so glad this came up to read.

A very big thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of Widows' Revenge – the sequel to Widows. The story picks up straight after the four women do the impossible, pulling off a raid. While they think they got away with it, they have no idea on what's going to come after them.

Once again this book didn’t disappoint and was action packed throughout. I really enjoyed following the four widows and their plan of revenge. Each widow added depth and uniqueness to the adventure and are always looking out for themselves.

I was holding my breath more than once to see if the girls got away with the revenge plot. Crimes, violence, heartbreak, and death will keep you up all night wanting more. Once you think the rollercoaster is about to stop, BAM, there’s a new twist. Lynda La Plant definitely has a knack for creating a story-line that can continue and also carry over to the movie screen.

Now to read book 3 ........

Having thoroughly enjoyed Widows I was eager to get my mitts on this, the follow-up. Lynda La Plante consistently shows exactly why she has graced bestsellers lists all around the world for the longest time, and in Widows' Revenge, she has indeed outdone herself once again. The excitement throughout the previous book is ramped up here, making it utterly riveting and another page-turning success. This is such an original premise, and as it's rather a rarity to come across a thriller that is wholly unique this series is one of my favourites. It has the perfect pace, a truly gripping plot, immersive writing and characters that you care about and cheer for after they pulled off the heist of the century.

One of the aspects I adore about these books is that the plot centres around strong, feisty women who pull no punches when it comes to kicking ass, figuratively not literally. These women are fascinating and beautifully developed, so much so that they feel like friends. There are a plethora of surprises throughout, and you know what they say about best-laid plans. The 1980s setting is immersive and intriguing given I was born at the end of that decade this was all new to me. However, it is a little cliche at times, and of course, the storyline requires a healthy suspension of disbelief to fully appreciate, but overall this is a great read.

Many thanks to Zaffre for an ARC.

An excellent follow up to the original Widows novel. The writer has you wanting the ladies to achieve revenge, but don't expect to be successful at such a cost. Like the first book, this will make an excellent follow up film.
The love between Dolly and Harry is still clear, although it has now developed into a love-hate relationship.
This great writer really makes you feel you're in the book, carefully observing everything happening. Nothing ever goes to plan and there are many problems along this route and the bonus of falling upon an eight million pound jewel snatch is an added bonus for the ladies. I wonder if we'll see a follow up to what Dolly and Bella do next?

I remember reading and seeing the first installment of this story and thoroughly enjoying it.
This one didn't disappoint.

With Harry Rawlins making a surprise re-appearance from the dead and the ladies, still shocked and hurting from losing their husbands they set out to take their revenge. His wife Dolly clears out his bank accounts and returns from Rio where they have all been living since the men lost their lives.

Harry is setting up meetings to meet up with his past criminal friends to plan a major haul and reclaim some of his lost money and reputation.

The ladies find out where Harry's meeting up with the team he has put together and by renting the place next door are able to watch and listen to their plans for the heist. Putting into place their own plans.

This book was really good and kept me in suspense about what was going to happen next and whether they would all succeed in their plans. It had some shocks and surprises as it unfolded and I really enjoyed it.
Thank you, NetGalley xx

Before I read this I downloaded the first book in the series - Widows - as I have never read anything by this author or seen the various TV series of her books, no TV. I reviewed that on Amazon and I'm afraid that the second book is little different to the first. Yes, it is equally, perhaps even better, written in terms of descriptions of people and places; you can still feel immersed in the 1980s, hear and smell the locations. The characters are even more annoying and unrealistic even if they have now settled temporarily in Rio before laundering their ill gotten gains. I couldn't decide whether a good shaking or a good counsellor would be preferable for any of them. Bella remains the most sympathetic and has a chance at happiness - screwed up by Linda of course who is just too self centred and dim to be believable. They return to London as one of their husbands seems not to have been killed after all and is even more devious than any of them imagined - he wants his money come what may. There are plenty of twists and turns and I can see how many reviewers think it a marvellous book. Guess it's just not my type of story. but thanks NetGalley and the publishers for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Widows’ Revenge
Lynda La Plante
Publisher: Bonnier Zaffre

Solid sequel to the original 80’s crime thriller which set the bar for strong female lead characters. Well written punchy storytelling. If it was a little cliched at times J had to remind myself that it was set in the 80’s and dialogue and speech patterns were different then. All in all a very satisfying follow up.

Thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Widows revenge is the continuing story of Dolly and her gang from the previous book Widows. Now in Rio, Dolly is preparing to return to the UK to sort out her future. Bella, Linda and Shirley are soon following behind her as their stay becomes untenable. I don’t want to say too much as any spoilers would spoil your enjoyment of this great story.
Much happens with these characters making for an exciting and page turning read, lots of lies secrets and deceit causing fractures in the relationships
A wonderful read and brilliant sequel, thoroughly enjoyable.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

Revenge is the key. Loved this book having seen the original first series on TV in the '80's. A good story for female leads, although Dolly is still the best character by far. Pretty realistic without too much violence.

You are really best off reading the first in series - Widows - before starting this one. Even though there is a "story so far" at the beginning, I don't think you'll get the best from the characters and their motivations for doing what comes next if you haven't.
So, our four gals are in Rio, holding out til the dust has settled after the shenanigans of the first book. Dolly is preparing to go home, having prepared herself, with the intention of sorting out her future once and for all. The rest of the girls follow swiftly after information received and actions that make their stay in Rio untenable. But is it worse for them back home? Is Harry really back and, if so, what's next for the widows?
It's hard to say much about this book as everything is interconnected and convoluted but suffice to say it's action packed all the way. Yes, it's written in an episodic kind of way but we all know that it will be on screen soon so that's only to be expected. It's also quite visual for the same reason.
Having watched the TV series back in the day and also read the book recently, I can safely say that the main characters are consistent throughout, maturing and adapting to their change in circumstance, and very well described; as are the new ones introduced herein.
As with all books of the genre, there are lies and deceit aplenty, along with miscommunication and suspicion. The girls aren't as close a group in this book as the first, having probably been influenced by their change in circumstance and therein lies the reasons for what follows. There are more secrets between them which inevitable leads to their downfalls.
All in all, a gripping story that kept my attention nicely throughout and left me satisfied at the end. Will there be any more? Who knows... But I'm just happy to have got this far. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Another great story line in the continuing widows saga. Lynda La Plante at her best. With Harry dead and Dolly going down for his murder and the jewels still missing will this be the end or will the saga continue with Bella involved.

# Widows Revenge #Netgalley
Linda la plant has done it again, every single thing she turns her hand to regarding writing is always going to be a big hit. I was surprised to see this book as her new one. Only because it’s so so long ago that windows series finished. So I found it exiting to read Dolky and her team make a comeback, it’s certainly didn’t disappoint in anyway at all. This is a must read book, a very very must read , the Widown Revenge. Truthfully let face it who doesn’t like a Linda la Plang brilliant must read,

I didn’t realise this was the second book, it didn’t matter too much, as I was able to understand what had happened previously.
The basic premise of the book is that, Dolly, Bella, Shirley and Linda have previously been involved in a heist that their husbands were planning to carry out (they died in a fire, hence the ladies are widows). They all left the country, and are waiting to ‘clean’ their money. Whilst away, they realise Harry, one of the husbands (and major gangster), is alive and wants his money. They all come back to the UK, and try to pay Harry off. In the background Harry is planning another heist. I won’t go into to anymore detail, as I don’t want to spoil the book.
I loved the dialogue in this book, it made me smile. I found the relationships interesting, as the characters have been thrust together, and don’t necessarily like each other. It is a somewhat complex plot, but easy enough to follow. It has clearly been written with the intention of transition to screen, which I think it would do well.
I found the plot fairly predictable, and perhaps slightly dated. I know it’s set in the 80s, but it would still be possible to create a more original plot line. Overall this was an ok read for me, sorry Lynda not one of my favourites.
Thank you to Netgalley, and Lynda for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the follow on book to widows by Lynda La Plante, so the story continues with the trials and tribulations of Dolly, Shirley, Linda and Bella.

The story continues with all four girls in Rio, but Dolly is leaving straight away to go back to the UK.

Harry has followed them and is sleeping in an ex cons house and Harry needs money, and he needs to find out what Dolly is up to.

As the story unfolds all the girls head back to the UK, followed by Harry, this story personally didn't feel as strong as the first and felt as if some of the characters where changed in character slightly, but still a good story with a fast paced storyline and well worth the read.
