This was my first introduction to Darren O'Sullivan's books and already I'm on the lookout for more.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book though it was something of a slow burner for me. This I felt was necessary though to enable to reader to get more of an insight into the daily struggles endured by Claire.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

I always find myself surprised when a thriller blows me away because I always think nothing can surprise me anymore. But here that's not the case. And I was schoked more than ever with the ending! It's just marvellous!

The author has this phenomenal way of thinking as his characters and you cannot but think to trust no-one and everyone.

He also paints the character of Claire like someone you should feel so many empathy towards.

Intensified story and all the dark and twisty happenings teach you to freak the hell out if you have a power surge. You will have a remembrance of this story for sure!

You are just trying so hard to connect all the dots, to figure out everything, to be proud of yourself for getting the twist and then you are thrown into a shock because you truly never sat that coming!

Ever since surviving The Black-Out Killer, Claire Moore has struggled with her new life. However, ten years on, her world comes crashing down when there’s another power cut and another victim. Whether it’s the killer or a copycat, Claire’s sure of only one thing … he’s coming for her.

Throughout the book I could tell where this story was going, and thought yeah 'it's pretty obvious who the Black-Out Killer is. However that last page completely threw me and the way it ended had me giving it 4 stars.

Thank you net galley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fabulously tense, with twists I didn't see coming. The end twist was stunning. I couldn't stop reading and am really excited to see what the author comes up with next!

Intense and suspenful for the most part. There were parts I skimmed reading because I felt like it dragged on. But the twist at the end it worth it.

Thank you Netgalley and HQ Digital for the advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Slow at times but enjoyable. The author has definitely gotten stronger as he has developed and his writing style is really good for this genre.

A brilliant thriller - kept me guessing all the way through!
Once I thought I had it figured out - I quickly had another suspect. Claire - the woman who lived - a woman scared of everyone, everything, yet turns out to be a far stronger woman than she believes she is. Ten years after a serial killer tries to take her life which would make her the eighth victim the killings start again. Those she loves rally around her to try to make her feel safe but who is it that is secretly watching her every move? Who is it that is closer than you think? An extremely captivating story that truly will keep you guessing until the last page. A definite must read!

A great psychological thriller full of the normal twists and turns I now come to expect from a Darren O’Sullivan Thriller.

I have to say that I feel this is the best yet!
I loved the whole concept of the storyline and felt it had an extra thriller element to it. It was creepy, twisty and intense! All the things I like in a thriller!

Quite possibly one of the best books I have ever read, gripping from start to finish didn’t want to put it down although I would never have guessed the ending it was left a little bit in the air.

This book...what to say. I think it probably achieved what the author set out to achieve and, much like the book "You" by Kepnes, will be enjoyed by many for that. It isn't necessarily a book that I love though. I thought the writing was good, the story was compelling enough, but I have just found that I am not a fan of stories told from the point of view of the killer. So, that has more to do with my ability to choose a book (and I prefer not to have much info going in to a thriller) than anything the author did to set the book in a negative light. This is a well-paced story. I think it may be a bit confusing to jump from the current day to the past in this case but I understand the need to do it here.
Overall, it was good, but not my personal taste.

I did not find this book as enjoyable as I had hoped. The story was complicated and interesting in its own way but I did not enjoy the complete absorption in a victim. It was more than obsessive and compulsive and not in an interesting way.

The other difficulty I had in reading this book is that so much of it happens in the past that it loses its immediacy and tension.

Thank you to NetGalley ror this copy.

came across Darren O'Sullivan last year on twitter and mentioned him here where i had just started reading one of his previous books and i enjoyed it. So when i was looking for a new thriller to read i found this as it recently been released on my netgalley to read.

OH MY GOSH this book was something else, i ended up with the biggest stress headache ever from it, i was so tense, my brain was ticking over left right and centre trying to predict what was coming, where it was going and who on earth was The Black-Out Killer.

Claire survived a truly horrific attempt on her life nearly 10 years ago, but she survived, she fought and she won and now she is waiting. Although she survived that night, her life feels like a daily battle to survive. She is surrounded by a truly loving and supportive family and has even started to meet someone special. Her life could be on the up. Then Black Outs start again, then another victim is found and it has all the trade marks of The Black Out Killer.

Told from different POV we get to know not only Claire but The Black Out Killer, we get to start to understand what is going through their mind, why he does this, why he is watching Claire. I really underestimated how good this book would be. It is one of the best so far this year. It was a real roller coaster of a journey, full of twists and turns - it throws things at you and then pulls you back in.

I found myself not sleeping for this - it was just unreal how good it was. It was the story, it was the writing - whilst i enjoyed previous work by the author this just bumped him up my TBR. I've already recommended it to several people including my boss and my mum and at the time of writing this its only 99p on Amazon

Closer Than You Think by Darren O’Sullivan
What a wild ride! It’s been ten years since Claire escaped the serial killer known as the “Black Out Killer.” She is the only one to ever escape him and even though he is now dead, she can’t help reliving those horrible moments over and over. She lost her husband and her freedom that night. She’s now trying to move on with the help of her mom and her mom’s supportive husband. On top of this, Claire has actually met a man she trusts and may possibly love. She can leave the house by herself for short periods of time without full-blown panic attacks. Maybe she can actually live.
Until the killings start again. Is it a copy-cat? Or has he come back to finish what he started?
Nice twist that keeps you on the edge. #Closerthanyouthink #DarrenO’Sullivan

Omg what a good book. I have just finished reading this book and wow. I was hooked from the very beginning and was adamant that I had worked out who the killer was but get to the last chapter and wow I didn't see that coming. Would highly recommend this book. It's about a lady called Claire and her husband Owen who were to.be victims 7 and 8 of a serial killer. Owen died but Claire survived the story then moves to 10 years later and how Claire's life is moving on and how she is coping but all of a sudden the blackout killer strikes again and it looks like he's after Claire to finish off the job. 3 more victims are taken before Claire finally gets to find out who the blackout killer is and wow. Thank you netgalley for my copy

"Closer Than You Think" by Darren O' Sullivan is an incredible masterpiece!

Compelling, dark and menacing, the plot-line of this book was really good! I thought I was over my childhood fear of the dark before I read this wonderful thriller, but I now know that I am not. I literally couldn't put this book down. Everything about this psychological thriller was so absolutely brilliant.

I loved all the characters in this book, though particularly Claire. She was a survivor who had been through the worst and was still struggling to come to terms with what happened to her over a decade ago. Claire was the only surviving victim of a serial killer who terrorised Ireland.

The unraveling of this story was a really gripping and addictive read and I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a blood-chilling and nail-biting experience. I also recommend that you keep the lights on when reading this novel! I am eagerly looking forward to reading more by Darren O'Sullivan.

I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from HQ Digital via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
