Another amazing book from Chris Carter. I've loved every single one of his books and this latest one really didn't disappoint. It's good to see Lucien back and to see what he has planned now that he has escaped and how Robert will handle what Lucien has to offer. |

What an explosive read!! From start to finish it's packed with action and a great story. I couldn't put it down, I love the Hunter series and this will not disappoint anyone. It's very fast pace and you are easily drawn in to the characters stories. Hunter is a hero! The fight he faces and the sorrow he's put through. This book would make an amazing movie. I can't wait for another book from Chris Carter. |

I give this a 4.5/5 stars I'm a big fan of Chris Carter, so it was a bonus to get an early preview in the latest Robert Hunter series. It's a really gripping thriller. As it relates to an earlier antagonist new fans might want to read An Evil Mind (Robert Hunter, #6) first. Returning fans will love it, it shows the almost too good to be true hero as a little more vulnerable & dare I say it... scared. An engaging read & high tension, even in parts that might be considered boring, like waiting on a call from the killer, you can feel the atmosphere in the detectives office. I did feel some parts were a little far fetched, but my biggest complaint was I couldn't put it down. |
I love Chris Carter’s books, so I was THRILLED to be able to read this one early. Hunting Evil is exactly what it says it is. We’re back with Hunter and Garcia as they are faced with one of the most evil killers America has ever known, and this time Lucien Folter is out for revenge. This book was immense fun, in as much as a serial killer thriller can be, it is gripping, gruesome, emotive and thoroughly engaging, I was completely hooked right from the beginning, I couldn’t put Hunting Evil down! |

After reading this tour de force which blew me away, I was speechless and needed a couple of days to digest what I have just read. For a start this is this authors first sequel but do not worry as it can be read as a standalone. Saying that I am sure that you will want to read this tsunami of a journey by reading An Evil Mind. Robert Hunters' nemesis and once friend Lucien Filter has escaped from a high security prison and has only one thing on his mind REVENGE!!!! Be warned once you start reading this book you will not want to put it down. Lucien is evil personified and the most prolific serial killer America has ever known. This read gave me chills, had the hairs standing up on the back of my neck. While reading this book, I had to read sections again as honestly I could not believe what I was reading. My heart was in my mouth and I was literally shouting at this book, tapping my kindle faster and faster. I have had a sleepless night as after I had finished this read it was still going round in my head. This book is mind blowing. Chris Carter is my all time favourite author and I have been with him from the start. His books a are series I will read again and again and never be disappointed. A five star read hell no an easy ten stars and so Highly Recommended. I would like to thank the author, Simon and Schuster UK and Netgalley for advanced copy and being one of lucky 100 to read it. Thank you so much a very happy reader. |

I would like to thank Netgalley and Simon and Schuster UK Fiction for an advance copy of Hunting Evil, the tenth novel to feature Detective Robert Hunter, head of LAPD’s Ultra Violent Crimes Unit. When violent, psychopathic serial killer Lucien Folter escapes from a high security facility he is intent on revenge on his former friend and college roommate, Robert Hunter, the man who caught him the last time. I thoroughly enjoyed Hunting Evil which is the gripping hunt for a clever serial killer, full of twists and turns and never a dull moment. Mr Carter admits in his forward that this is his first effort at a sequel and recommends that readers first read An Evil Mind before starting this one. I have read An Evil Mind but it was a few years and many books ago so I don’t have a clear recollection of it but I found that it didn’t matter as all the salient points are covered and this works well as a stand alone tale within the series. Despite the narrative frequently changing point of view (one of my pet hates) I was gripped from start to finish. It is an exciting, pulse pounding read with plenty of action, violence and general gruesomeness - I wouldn’t like to live in Mr Carter’s imagination - but above all it is clever. As befits one of Mr Carter’s villains Lucien Folter is clever, manipulative and always a couple of steps ahead. The ingenuity of the plot and the twists from an author at the top of his game are to be wondered and admired, which coupled with the frenetic pace make for a great read. Is it quibbling to say that Lucien Folter is probably too clever to be realistic? He’s a master of disguise with an excellent understanding of human psychology and an ability to plan further ahead in great detail. Of course it’s quibbling because his character provides great entertainment as it’s designed to so reality doesn’t come into it. Hunting Evil is another great read in an excellent series so I have no hesitation in recommending it. |
Thank you Netgalley for my advanced copy of Hunting Evil. What can I say? Chris Carter does not disappoint in his 10th Robert Hunter book. I’ve read all of them and was very familiar was Lucien Folter. This book did not grip me from page one like most of the others in the series but after a few chapters I was back in the zone with Robert and Carlos. It quickly pulled me right back in, and I was on the edge of my seat. My heart was literally in my mouth on more than one occasion. Highly recommend reading the other books, (because they’re amazing) although it could be read as a stand alone as there is enough of the back story to bring you up to speed. Definitely a must read for any fan of crime thrillers. Review posted on goodreads https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2713329498 |
Only giving it 4 stars because it lacks the gore I normally expect from Chris' books, dont get me wrong the gore in there is pretty bad but nothing to the extent of the others.. This is a sequel to An Evil Mind where we first meet Lucien. In my eyes he is a pretty sick and twisted individual. In Hunters eyes - The Devil. I would suggest reading An Evil Mind first just to get to know the nature of who Hunter is dealing with, it puts more perspective on why he is awful. I really enjoyed this book, it was fast pased, short snappy chapters and of course my favourite detectives, Hunter and Garcia. It was nice to see a not so perfect Hunter in this one and to see Garcia really come in to his own for once. I loved the evolution of Garcia and have been waiting for this for a while now. You think you have the answers but you are wrong, Lucien is one very smart individual who you would not like to be playing games with. The devil personified. |

Another fantastic book by Chris Carter. Gripped from chapter one, this book delivers in every way. Plot twists, thrill and the odd bit of humour make this book a thoroughly enjoyable read. Robert Hunter at his finest, Chris Carter Author at his best. A definite must read. |
Do yourself a favour and clear your schedule for the day while you read this!! Hunting evil is a total page turner! I was hooked from the first page it pulls you in and doesn’t let go until the very last page! Lucien Folter is back and he’s angry and looking for revenge, “How do you kill someone with out actually killing them. You empty their soul only to refill it with pain you take away what they love the most...” Read this book with the lights on it will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Chris Carter is a master story teller. He always gets just the right amount of information and anticipation to paint the perfect picture in your head as if you were watching it on TV. |

This may be the tenth book in the Robert Hunter series but it was just as explosive and catching as each of the previous books. From page 1 you are hooked into the story and before you know it you are caught up in the chase of Lucien Folter. The chase was compelling and with the way Carter hooks you in you feel involved in every stage. As always I love relationship between Hunter and Garcia. Having read this as an early review from Netgalley and the publishers I’m just disappointed I’ll now have longer before the next book in the series! This is Chris Carter at his best. View all my reviews |

Chris Carter has done it again! Once you start reading it’s very hard to put down again. It’s not just an enjoyable read but a fascinating look into the psychology behind murder. Hunter and García again make a fantastic duo adding levity to an otherwise very dark read. You come away wanting more. Lucien Folter is my all time favourite villain after reading An Evil Mind, so when I learned he was featuring in this book, I just had to read it! He’s a villain that commits truly evil acts but he’s such a fascintating character that you don’t want him to stop. He is a worthy adversary for Detective Hunter, truly testing his abilities but also playing with him on an emotional level, something that he hasn’t experienced in previous books in the series. New characters offer a way to Introduce Hunters abilities for those who may not be familiar with the character but I was more focused not the dynamics between the leading characters. It was refreshing to see García being the more composed partner this time round offering a new twist to the partnership. Overall this book is fantastic. I read this in one sitting as I just couldn’t pull myself away, Chris Carter you’ve done it again! Now comes the long wait for the next book.... |

I'm going to go against popular opinion here and say this isn't his best work. It's good, well written but in comparison to the earlier novels it's weak. |
I'm going to go against popular opinion here and say this isn't his best work. In fact the last 2 books have been weak. It's well written and definitely worth a read but in comparison to earlier books it just doesn't have that wow factor. |

When evil is personified there is only one detective to call on, however, when even Robert Hunter is scared you know you are in for a terrifying read. For three and a half years Lucien has planned his revenge on his old college roommate – now is the time to put those plans to action, will Robert finally pay for not killing Lucien when he had the chance? Chris Carter never fails to keep the pages turning and this book has to be one of his best - A number of times I had to remind myself to breathe and it definitely kept me up way past my bed time! If you are not already a Chris Carter fan be prepared to get hooked. |
I don't think i've loved a series of books as much a i love the Robert Hunter series. Every story gets better, the details of the plot feeling like a delicately woven web which always surprises me and leaves me feeling like i've binged an entire prime time series in one go. (Because honestly once you start a Chris Carter book your life is on hold until the last page.) I had been hoping that Folter would be revisited but i didn't know if he could top An Evil Mind but wow oh wow, this was better than i ever dared hoped. The only downsize is now the wait for the next book. |
This is the 10th book Chris Carter has released in the Detective Hunter series and his first sequel . This book follows on from An Evil Mind and is the story of what happened to Lucien Folter after he was arrested. Avid fans of Chris Carter will have fear and excitement in their hearts at the sheer mention of Lucien's name. New readers, I feel like with the background provided within the first few chapters of this novel you could read it without reading An Evil Mind as most references to events in the first book come with a reminder. However, I would recommend reading An Evil Mind as it is just as brilliant as this book. Chris Carter knows how to make you experience every emotion during his novels but this book takes that to a whole new level. At times I felt I was going to go into shock from fear, I felt nauseous with anticipation, my heart broke only to be glued back together. This is a psychological horror that deserves a category of its own. The plot is well thought out and goes into a lot of detail showing the dedication Chris Carter has to his novels. The only dramatic twist is the very last sentence which may suggest Lucien may turn into a trilogy which personally I sincerely hope for. This book is well sized but it is so gripping you cannot put it down once you have started. How effective the crime scenes Chris paints will be determined by your imagination and I hope if you have a strong imagination that you have a strong stomach to match it. |

Brilliant as always. I’ve barely put this book down since I started it and I’ve not been disappointed. A few heart stopping moment later on in the book and as always finishing it has left me wanting me! |
I really liked the first chapter of this - it’s shocking, immediately gripping and neatly constructed. The other 109 chapter of the book I didn’t like so much. It’s excessively padded, often poorly written and frequently ludicrous. Yes, it’s readable, but the tension is maintained mostly by tricks played on the reader by the author (ie writing scenes to lead you to believe one thing has happened when actually something different has). Worst of all, the hero triumphs in the end through dumb luck rather than any insight or effort on his part. |

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Another great read from Chris Carter. Hunter faces his nemesis once again but on a whole different face ( excuse the pun) the sinister and evil Lucien. Also my personal feeling this book defined the relationship between detectives Hunter & Garcia to another level. To begin with I felt that Hunter was losing his sparke but then it came almost at the point where I thought he had actually given up was ready to hang up his gloves and walk away from what he does best., Without spoiling the read this happens very late on in the book. And then slowly the satisfied grin grows across ones face, the feeling of ahh there he is, there's Hunter! As in his previous books Chris Carter delivered the intense scenes with " I HAVE TO READ FAST'' This is something you can't avoid. It grips you, it takes your breath as the scenes are playing along in your head. The description of as 'addictive as a boxset' the publishers are not wrong. having read this latest addition to the Hunter & Garcia series could quite easily be a new movie. what a movie it would be. |
