Thank you to Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing (they NEVER let me down) for an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. This book was so well done. I didn't even realize where the plot was going until the end. It's always tricky when you leave your kids in the care of others, especially if they live in. Can you really trust them? Even if they're vetted? I really enjoyed this book, and I'd recommend it.

From the beginning, this book had me hooked. The thought of inviting someone into your home to help you with the children seems like every mom's dream, right? Well, very quickly you learn that this situation can turn into a terrifying one! I loved the suspense. The characters were very engaging, and I had trouble putting this book down! Great and terrifying thriller for me!

Andrew Hart’s thriller was an engaging read, though the twists were well signposted so somewhat predictable. The plot plays on insecurities about sharing your home and children with a complete stranger, however well qualified a nanny she might be. Things initially seem to settle down and be working out well, but then unsettling events start to unfold and Anna, the mother who was so keen to return to work, becomes increasingly distrustful. The thriller plays out well. I liked how Anna’s brand new author adds to her inner turmoil and paranoia, before the climactic events that close the book.
Overall a psychological thriller that does the job well and keeps you reading till the end.
Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very frightening book and just when you think you know exactly what is going on and how it is going to end, surprise! You didn't. That is what makes me want to read a thriller and this one has just about everything going for it. From the beginning, you know that something is off with the Nanny that will eventually become one of the star-players in this novel, but although you might think you have her all figured out by the last chapter, that turns out not to be the case.

This author is truly amazing at making you think about how a seemingly ordinary situation could become dangerous. I will now think twice about who I associate with--thanks to him. What I loved about this book most, was that he did such a fantastic job of portraying character's innermost feelings for the audience of readers. I felt like I knew these people, and could sympathise with them. The goings on in the neighbourhood seemed very real, as did the internal thoughts of all the people involved in the various aspects of the book.

There were many times where I found myself holding my breath whilst reading this and that is a great reason to want to recommend it to other readers. This really is a great book.

This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Not for me. I was looking forward to reading this book but unfortunately I couldn’t get past the first chapter. The female perspective that this book was written from was a bit hard to read. Her comparison between herself as a mother and being eclipsed by her children was a bit much. What was wrong with her being ready to go back to work? I was intrigued by the plot I haven’t seen a plot like this before. Female house keeper/nanny goes rouge.

Anna Klein is ready to return to work as a literary agent for the first time since having children. She and her husband, Josh, decide to hire a live-in nanny with some trepidation, but all their misgivings disappear as soon as they meet Oaklynn Durst. She has stellar references, a calm disposition, and a natural way with children. Not to mention their kids simply adore her.

But not long after Oaklynn arrives, the children start to come down with the most puzzling illnesses and inexplicable injuries. When the maternal Oaklynn is there to comfort everyone, Anna can’t help feeling a little eclipsed. And suspicious. Her husband and friends assure her that her anxieties are getting the best of her—Oaklynn is perfect. But Anna’s not so sure…

This is definitely one of my new favorite books!! I can't wait to own this one and put it with my collection. While reading this all I could think about was how much of a nightmare this would be for a mother. Such a great book!

I enjoyed this book. At first I wasn’t sure about it but it got better after the first couple of chapters. It is a thriller that keeps you guessing. The odd nanny Oaklynn who comes in to Anna’s life and turns it upside down. The sweet girls who love their nanny. It is a good read and I enjoyed it.

I was completely blown away by this book. This is my first book by Andrew Hart and he did not disappoint.

This was a well-written suspense novel that was not short on the suspense. I was kept guessing throughout this book and that is hard to pull off in this genre. The characters were you're supposed to like we're likable and the ones you weren't supposed to weren't. This was a pleasant read and I'll be adding Mr. Hart to my list of authors to follow.

The Woman in Our House is a solid, if predictable, thriller. Clear writing, engaging story and interesting characters. Having a woman, even an employed nanny, in your home full-time seems like the perfect scenario for unsettling events.
I enjoyed the story until some unrealistic events occurred, scared of guns - buy a crossbow instead! - subtle racism from friendly neighbors, etc. I was pleased with the thriller aspect of the book, the ending wasn't a huge surprise.
Enjoyable for a Saturday afternoon read.

I found this book to be a very slow burn.
I honestly did enjoy it📚 The story keeps you guessing all the way thru. But I must say I also was looking for more at the end.
I would recommend this book.

I was a bit underwhelmed with the idea of reading this as I made the mistake of reading the reviews.

I’m glad I pushed myself. Very well written. It’s not the fastest moving novel, but it reads so well that you’ll be done in no time. The ending left me looking for more, but that didn’t detract from the fact that I enjoyed my time reading the story.

Recommended.

Eh more of the same “bad manny” stories going around. It was slow, and the characters felt a little flat. But it did keep me guessing.

This was a good book that kept me reading to find out what would happen. I really liked Anna, the protagonist, and could sympathise with her desire to have a life beyond motherhood whilst at the same time loving her children fiercely. It's never an easy balance.

The book did fall down for me a bit in predictability. Though I said above that I wanted to 'find out what would happen', I saw through all the misdirects and never found any of the twists and turns surprising. So it was more a question of how the situation would resolve itself rather than what would happen. I also thought a couple of the viewpoint characters, such as the neighbour, were unnecessary – they were only used a few times and could have been stripped out without affecting the story.

Overall, though, definitely worth a read.

Thanks Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for an ARC, I voluntarily reviewed this book.

Although a little bit predictable plot-wise about a nanny who is not what she appears to be.
However, the narrative was suspenseful enough with many twists and turns that held my attention and entertained me from start to finish.

Couldn't get to liking this book unfortunately, it didn't hold my attention and I couldn't get on with the characters. I did give up on it about 40% through.

Thank you to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

A total eclipse of the heart...

Hell is empty and all the devils are here.

The Woman in Our House is a very, very slow burning novel...so slow, in fact, it took me quite a long time to become absorbed in the story.

I'd put it down, do some chores, pick it up again, read 10 pages, get a snack, pick it up and read a few more...you get the picture. But holy cow, once this book got started, it didn't stop. As a parent, it was utterly terrifying for me. Who needs Jason or Freddy...the thought of having a stranger in my home, intentionally harming my children...it's my worst nightmare.

Told from multiple perspectives, but primarily those of Anna and Oaklynn, you learn very quickly in the book that Oaklynn is a fraud. I promise I'm not spoiling anything by sharing this, as it's very clearly spelled out in the first couple chapters of the novel. You learn just as quickly that she's been hired by Anna as a live-in nanny, while Anna attempts to get her career back on track. Speaking of Anna, I can't ever remember relating to a character as much as I related to her--thoughts on motherhood and the anxiety it creates, the loss of a career, religion, guilt...her thoughts on these topics all truly resonated. The author, Andrew Hart, also focuses a great deal on race, as our protagonist, Anna, is Japanese-American. This will forever be a timely topic, and I feel he does a good job showcasing the racism Anna faces regularly, even from her supposedly friendly neighbor.

There is nothing particularly "twisty" here...so if you're looking for that jaw-dropping twist ending, this isn't the book for you. The writing throughout the book makes everything quite clear...and for any long-time reader of the genre, even the so-called clues are obvious. The ending was also a bit frustrating to me, as I felt it left some unanswered questions. Conclusions shouldn't end so abruptly.

Bottom line, this is a good, solid story-line. With a few tweaks, I think it could be a great one.

**A huge thank you to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the advanced reader's copy, in exchange for my honest review.

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

This book was a bit predictable and formulaic but it’s very engaging and the characters are like able and fun enough that it keeps you sucked in and turning pages through the well-torn evil nanny plot. 3.5 rounded up

3.5 stars. This book had a good amount of suspense. Oaklynn, the new nanny, seemed to not be everything she appeared to be. Little things seem suspicious and it keeps the reader turning pages to see if Oaklynn is really who she claims to be. The ending kept me guessing without scaring me - a good mix for a suspenseful novel!
