This book was decent, I had an enjoyable time reading it, but truth be told, it was very predictable. |

This book makes you wonder about the possibilities of things that can happen when you hire a stranger to come into your home. It was suspenseful, and as a mom of four kids, somewhat terrifying. It kept me on the edge of my seat. |
Having done the nanny thing myself, this is one of those things that you always have in the back of your mind. What if?? Who are you really hiring?? Without giving anything away, this was a mostly well-paced, thriller that was an interesting and good book for me. I liked the story. It was gripping without being unbelievable. The characters were well written and the plot was good. Definitely recommend. #TheWomanInOurHouse #NetGalley #LakeUnionPublishing |
Well written story, interesting storyline... Good pace, nice suspense, good twists... maybe a little slow at times... A husband with secrets, a concerned wife, the nanny... I liked it! ARC received through NetGalley. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own. |
Good story and very suspenseful. But as the climax approaches, the author descends into totally unnecessary Trump bashing and ridiculous white supremacy garbage. Great way to ruin what could have been a five-star book. |
The Woman in Our House was a gripping novel! It was a mixture of a sort of women's fiction and intense suspense. Anna and Josh decide to hire a nanny to help take care of their two young children so Anna can start working again. Their nanny comes to them with perfect references and is absolutely wonderful with the kids and helpful. But then things begin to happen to the children. And Anna suspects the nanny and everyone is upset with Anna for her suspicions. There is so much more to the whole story and to the characters. There is an ominous atmosphere throughout the story that left me nervous and anxious to find out what was going to happen. |
Would you let a total stranger in your house? To take care of the post precious in your home, your children? Anna Klein wanted to go forward with her dream of editor. To do so, she needed extra help with her children and her home. When Oaklynn Durst came thru with flying colors thru the nanny agency Nuture, Anna thought maybe she made a great decision. Her husband was behind her but with his own reservations. Oaklynn showed up at the Klein home and she appeared to be the perfect Nanny. Always there, always available, always willing. When accidents started occurring under Oaklynn's care and Anna's children were rushed to emergency, a pattern started to emerge. A dangerous pattern. Anna's life begins to unravel, her husband is keeping secrets, she is paranoid about the nanny taking over her children and her home. She begins to question who she is and everything she holds dear. The narration has 3 perspectives. Anna has she makes the decision of having another woman take care of all that she holds dear. The paranoia she goes thru and all that she questions. Oaklynn has she has her own secrets and what she is running from. She is the most complex and whom you don't know if she is friend or foe. The suspense keeps you going. The mysterious man who makes all things clear in the end. Each of these characters bring the tension up, in my opinion they lacked depth and I think that was the case in order not to give anything away. To keep the reader guessing and turning the page which succeeded well with me. A Special Thank You to Lake Union Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review. |
Dark mystery that sucks you into a different place. A nightmare where no one wants to be. Good read. Can’t put it down. Wondering where it’s going to go And which way to turn |

Brilliant book, had me hooked, the storyline was great, not quite what I expected at the end, that was a surprising finish! Loved it, thank you netgalley. |
I used to enjoy living alone. I did it for 10 years. However, life changes and now I live with a tall, handsome man whose company I enjoy. In a few months, we might have other people join us. But guys, I fear nannies. It might sound silly but social media is awash with secret footage of nannies gone bad. Might be something that happens this side of the world but I have seen those videos. I know they are good nannies out there but I still have my fears. This book made me even more wary. Anna is a stay at home mum who decides to get a nanny to help with the kids and hence allow her to go back to work. It sounded perfect at first and all worked out well initially. But… who exactly is the new woman in Anna’s house? I loved the intensity of this book especially in the first chapters. I was so curious about the nanny. She had secrets and I wanted to know them. As the mystery grew, I became more nervous than curious. I was worried about Anna and her family. I didn’t trust the nanny and then Anna began receiving a manuscript which seemed written by a crazy person with very dark ideas. I usually don’t mind dark narratives and I secretly admire authors who harbor such dark ideas. However, I wouldn’t want to read a dark narrative where the characters and events sound so close to home. This was a crazy ride but unfortunately, the ending didn’t work for me. The buildup was fantastic but the reveal failed to wow me. Some of the events just didn’t make much sense. Would I recommend this book? Yes I would. That premise and story-line are too insane and captivating to miss. I just wish that the wrap-up was as good. |
I enjoyed this domestic thriller. It was a little slow paced and predictable but still was a good read for me on the beach. I didn’t really connect with any of the characters but that was ok. The ending was unexpected and a lttle creepy. Many thanks to Lake Union Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion. |

This was a quick pace thriller that kept my attention all the way through. The author did a good job with a couple unexpected twists and all questions were answered by the end. I will definitely look into reading other books by this author. If you are in to thrillers, definitely give this one a chance! |
The Woman in Our House by Andrew Hart is yet another thriller that takes readers on a journey of what may happen if they invite a nanny who is a stranger into their home. Now does one ever ask why do the rich or celebrities get away with hiring help but regular folks get the nannies from h*ll? Makes you wonder now that I mentioned it, doesn’t it? LOL Well Andrew Hart has come up with his own version that definitely kept me glued to the pages. Anna Klein begins to think it’s about time for her to return to work even though her children are both still young. In order for Anna and her husband to work though they will have to bring in some help in the form of a nanny. Well after a friends recommendation Anna chooses Oaklynn Durst from a service in Utah. Wouldn’t you know everything is perfect for a while but then suspicious things begin to happen. Now, The Woman in Our House is mainly told from Anna’s point of view however there are multiple others voices in the story too. Through these the reader is given just enough to know things are definitely not right but it takes tons and tons of twists and turns along the way before getting to the final conclusion. The thing that has me at 3 1/2 stars with this is while it was completely engaging the wrap up seemed to leave some holes along the way that didn’t add up to me. I questioned whether this one was a case of maybe one or two twists or red herrings too many while trying to stand out from the crowd. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. |
I couldn't finish this title and had to slip it on to my TBR. I got lost in the chapters flipping between past and present, and overall dull characters. I set it down about 1/3 of the way in, hoping to find the pulse and energy of a thriller. There was too much repetition of "as I did this, so and so did this," followed by more "As I..." sentences. I really hope this was an ARC copy, but the edition I read felt rushed and in need of another good copy edit. |
🤯 Such a well written book! I had my ideas of “the bad guy” from the beginning but didn’t find out the truth until the very end! This book definitely kept me guessing! But in the end..... “So I hold on to what I value all the tighter, grip it closer to me, and in spite of all the fear, that is also an act of defiance, faith, and even love.” |
**Thank you to the author and NetGalley for sending me an eARC in return for an honest review. 1.5 to 2 stars!!! Well this was a particularly disappointing read for me. I don't even know where to begin. I was really hoping for an amazing domestic thriller but this book is far from it. From the blurb, I got a like of "Single White Female" kind of vibe from the storyline and was looking forward to delving deeper into the psyche of the crazy nanny and the world of the characters. However, I honestly didn't get that at all. I'll try and keep this review brief and to the point. The story starts off strong and I was really digging the book till the 50% mark. It begins with Anna, a Mum of two girls, who wishes to get back to work and is tired of just being a mother. She wants to feel more like how she was before having children. Cue the introduction of Oaklynn Durst, the nanny. At first everything seems to be going well but then her children start meeting with accidents or falling ill. I actually liked the POVs of Anna and Oaklynn during the first half of the book. It came across as the usual domestic thriller, slow burn but taut with tension. But then the story goes off track with unnecessary side plots and irrelevant details that play no part in the overall arc of the storyline. Furthermore, as the story progressed, I started disliking the characters completely. They came across as very pretentious and snotty. I honestly could have cared less for them and I found myself more inclined towards Oaklynn. However, her POVs were few and far in between which made in hard to really understand her motivations or thought process. I would have liked to have seen more of her skewed perspective come into play. That would have made for an engrossing read. Anyway, as the story unraveled further, the plot became even more muddled and bizarre with some characters being introduced and then, completely cast aside. The story became convoluted and so far-fetched I just wanted it to be over. There was no tension or suspense. Honestly, it went down a route that I didn't even expect and ultimately, disliked intensely because it became quite political. I wasn't ready for it. It felt as though the author lost interest and tried to come up with some storyline to differentiate it from others in the genre, but missed the mark sorely. Overall, a pretty dismal read. Saying that giving this one 2 stars is me being quite generous, but I can't fault the strong beginning. I wouldn't recommend giving this one a try. The author does way too much and at the end, the plot hasn't much going for it. I would definitely skip this one. |
When Anna goes back to work, she brings a young woman into their home to help care for the children, but things seem to be spiraling out of control. No matter how many things she points out, she is told that its all in her head. But something is definitely off about Oaklynn. I think this is the first Lake Union book that I just didn't fall head over heels in love with. The writing was great, but the storyline just stalled for me. While there is real potential for a fabulous book, I just felt that too much was missing. |
