I have read Kerry Lonsdale's a few times now, she always writes flawlessly, and her character development is spot on. There is always a presence of mystery and intrigue. I read Last Summer super fast , it was a page turner, On the down side , which I never experienced before in her previous books , was a dash of predictability. I was team Nathan, he had a certain charm about him. The ending was open ended, bit of a cliff hanger, it's left to your imagination. This surprisingly bothered me, as I feel it could of wrapped up with more closure or not end so quickly. I still look forward to future readings from this authoress |
I was given an ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Once I started reading this book, it was hard to put down! Ella is a journalist who wakes up one day in the hospital with no memory of what happened to put her there in the first place. Damien, her husband is a successful CEO who loves his wife to death and would do ANYTHING to make her happy. Nathan, a celebrity adventurer, who Ella once interviews for her company. You put all these 3 people together and you get love, lust, suspense & intrigue! Ella is in search of the truth of the accident she doesn't remember or the memories prior to the accident. Her husband won't talk to her about it so she goes to meet Nathan again as he called seeking another interview with her. Will she find out the REAL truth and recover her memories? Or will she just believe what she is told? |
Last Summer is a brilliantly bonkers novel. Ella Skye has been in an accident that she can't remember. She has to re-interview an adventurer called Nathan Donovan she has completely forgotten. What is going on? Ella has an enviable life. She has a great job as a lifestyle journalist and is married to the man of her dreams, tech entrepreneur Damien. What aren't the men in Ella's life telling her? Ella has to retrace her steps, and discover if she can handle the truth. Great fun. |
I was provided an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the author. It is set to release on July 09, 2019! So make sure you head over to Amazon and preorder!! Last Summer is a story about journalist Ella Skye. She wakes up in the hospital after a car accident, and has lost bits and pieces of her memory, including the fact that she was pregnant when the accident happened, and she has lost her baby. She doesn't remember being pregnant at all. Her husband Damien seems a little closed off from her, so she takes to digging around herself to try and find answers. She is assigned an exclusive story with a celebrity adventurer, Nathan Donovan, and when she arrives it seems he knows her a lot better than she remembers knowing him. The blurb for this story drew me in when I was searching for books to request on NetGalley. I love a good mystery book, especially one that has a little side of romance. From the first page I was pulled in and dying to figure out what happened, and how a person could only lose selective pieces of their memory. I wasn't sure whether to like Ella or not. It was obvious she had been through a tragedy, but I wasn't entirely sure if she was a good person before the accident or not. She was hard to figure out, but I think that was important for the story, the author wanted you to go on that journey with Ella to see if you could piece together the things she was looking for also. Right off the bat Damien rubbed me the wrong way. He seemed so closed off from her. I understand he was grieving a baby, but he didn't seem too torn up about the fact he almost lost his wife too. He found every reason he could to leave on business, and he avoided any conversation with her when she tried to find out what happened the day of the accident. It was like he was blaming her for her memory loss, so a part of me started to wonder if that was a sham also. Nathan Donovan makes his appearance in the book and right away I liked him. He seemed friendly and it seemed like he loved Ella, he seemed so hurt that she didn't remember him or anything about him. I was just as desperate as Ella to find out what happened to them in those couple of weeks she had spent with him before she was pregnant, and also curious as to why that was a part of memory that was missing too. A lot of things weren't adding up, and I wanted answers! This book does end on sort of a cliffhanger, but you do get all the answers you want about the questions the story brought up. It has the potential to branch out into another story though, so I'm curious if that is the authors intentions. Overall I'm giving this story 4.5 STARS. I really enjoyed it. It had a good mystery, I thought I had everything figured out towards the end of the book, and then the last couple of chapters completely threw me for a loop! This was a good read. Just the right of mystery, a little bit of romance, and that OMG moment at the end that made you want more! Well Kerry Lonsdale does not disappoint in this romance/drama that has an intriguing story line with a twist. You will love the details that place you right at the scenes in her writing. The story with repressed memory loss finds a way to draw you in and captivate to the last page. A "can't put down", "must read" book! |
Last Summer is a book I couldn’t put down. From front to back I was glued. I’m never disappointed with Kerry’s reads. |

Wow, just wow. My heart is still racing! From page one I was captivated by Ella and Damien, the love they have for one another, despite Ella's memory loss and forgetting carrying their child nearly to term before an accident takes him from them. The devastating loss takes it toll, though--Ella has questions and Damien's not answering. So when the opportunity arises again for Ella to interview Nathan Donovan, a heart throb celebrity outdoorsman she has already interviewed and spent two weeks with but has no recollection of, she is determined to go and get answers as to why she can remember some things from from the last 7 months, but nothing about Nathan and her unborn son. Kerry has done it again and better than before. I loved every word of Last Summer! |
Really good storyteller. I would recommend this to a friend . I look forward to read many more !! So relax , and enjoy !!! |
Domestic suspense at its best! Meet Ella, a reporter who shows up with no memory of the accident that put her in the hospital... or the loss of the baby she was carrying. Meet Damien, her husband, who seems to be protecting the answers to Ella's memory loss at all costs. Readers will be quickly engaged, alongside Ella, on her quest to bring back the memories lost. In a quick race to the finish, loaded with outdoor adventure and characters you won't forget, readers will find themselves turning each page feverishly, for answers. Authors spend months writing and reviewing their works of art, I almost feel bad reading such a great story in one sitting, but you will find it hard to put down once you start! A perfect book to add to your summer reading list! Don't miss this one! |

I read this book in one sitting and I totally loved it. I just adored everything about it, it had love, deceit, loss & suspense. I don't want to give too much away essentially the nuts and bolts of the story is that Ella has an accident and cannot remember their unborn child. Her husband Damien is a bit unhelpful in helping her to remember what she cannot remember. Then you follow Ella's journey in her attempt to remember. Very good and yes a solid 5 star rating from me. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for a honest review. |
5* Intriguing Stars I am a huge fan of Kerry Lonsdale’s writing and I was beyond excited to receive her latest novel, Last Summer. This book did not disappoint. Once you start the story you will not want to put it down! The story revolves around Ella Skye, who is a lifestyle journalist, and has recently lost her memory as well as her unborn child after being involved in a car accident. Ella is determined to regain her memory, as she has no recollection of being pregnant or being involved in the accident. Ella is frustrated that her beloved husband Damien is not being very cooperative with helping her and she is rather perplexed about this. Ella is then given a second opportunity to interview Nathan Donovan, who is a retired celebrity adventurer and she is hopeful that he may be able to piece back her memory from their previous interview where they spent 2 weeks together. The story of Ella, Damien and Nathan is full of love, lies, deceit, and trust. It was well written and flowed easily with twists you did not see coming. I highly recommend this fast paced domestic suspense read. Many thanks to Kerry Lonsdale, Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for my copy to read and review. |
Thank you for this wonderful read! I love when NetGalley approves me to read books! This was a great read that I would recommend. |

Title: Last Summer Author: Kerry Lonsdale Format: Kindle epub Tissue warning: no? Narrative: Third person, following Ella My reviewer rating: 3.5 out of 5 Published: 2019-07-09 Preorder through Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HNSYCGG/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_Dq-CCbTNP3GS8 Thank you, Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing, for the free e-copy of Last Summer in exchange for my honest-to-goodness review. Kerry has done it again, y'all. If there's one thing that she's good at, it's taking the reader on a ride of "what the hell?" and "please, tell me I'm reading this wrong." In Last Summer, I am thrown emotionally all over the place. The story started off slow for me, so it actually took me a few weeks to get into it. I just had other novels that captivated me more at the time. But about 1/3 of the way in, I was stuck. I couldn't stop. It helped that I was home sick and could read at leisure. But I began with "meh, I'm not into this." Then I turned to "what is going on? I thought I knew, but maybe I don't." After the confusion, I got angry and actually wanted to quit the book, which in turn, just made me keep going because I knew Kerry would not disappoint me. Finally, I really got pissed because I had no idea this was going to be a series. Dangit. I have to wait. Patience is not my strong suit. We do get a lot of answers nearing the end of Last Summer, but Kerry leaves us just on the cusp of thinking we're getting it all before yanking that hope right away by basically giving us a, "Tune in next week for the conclusion of Last Summer!" Success, Kerry. You've outdone yourself. The love/hate relationships I keep having with your novels seems to continue, and I thank you for that. This is the best I can do for a review right now without spoiling anything. If I give any information out, it's going to feel like a spoiler, so I'm going to zip it. |

I was sucked into the novel from the first pages and immediately intrigued to find out what would happen next. The story had a lot of twists and turns which caused me to be uncertain of which character I should even be rooting for. Last Summer is an excellent novel. It is definitely worth picking up, but reader be warned, you will have a very difficult time putting it down. |

Secrets? Amnesia? Or something deeper? Successful magazine journalist Ella Skye has the world at her fingertips: handsome husband, comfortable lifestyle, pregnant with their first child....until a violent accident seriously injures her, causing the death of their unborn child. Waking up in the hospital, Ella realizes she can remember nothing from the time of the accident, the months before, and being pregnant. What could have happened to cause such an extreme loss of memory? As Ella struggles to get her life and memories back, she realizes that those people closest to her seem to know a whole lot more about her than they are willing to share. When the opportunity to interview a high profile personality, why is everyone around her acting like they are hiding details? And why would her husband object to her taking this particular assignment? This well-written book by Kerry Lonsdale will keep you intrigued until the final twist and reveal! Highly recommended. |
I totally loved this book!! If your a fan you will love it as well. The characters are amazing, deeply developed, and fit in so well with a Kerry Lonsdale book. As usual, Lonsdale brings the excitement, raw emotion, and overall wowness to the story, expecially towards the end. Major plot twists, and a unbelivable ending. Book needs a part 2 to be complete. But overall its incredible!!! |
Wow! What a story!! This story took me from feeling happy sad heart broken to what just happened!! A roller coaster of emotions! I may be thinking about the last few chapters for awhile. Loved it!! |
Kerry did not disappoint! This book definitely keeps you on your toes until the very end. You never expect what’s coming! Loved it ! |
