As someone who absolutely loved Alice Feeney's first book Sometimes I Lie I was ridiculously excited to get the chance to read an advance copy of her latest one. I really love her writing, the complex characters she creates and the sudden twists that will literally leave your jaw on the floor. Unfortunately however, while there is a lot to love in this book I'm afraid the ending kind of ruined it. There are a lot of twisty thrillers around at the moment and I can understand the temptation to push the boundaries to make your story stand out but I'm afraid for me this pushed things a little too far, becoming unbelievable and a little ridiculous. It's a pity, as up until that point there was a lot to like. Main character Aimee Sinclair for example was wonderful as the unreliable narrator. As an actress on an upward trajectory she knows how to play a part, to show the world what they expect to see. When her husband suddenly vanishes without a trace it's difficult to tell how she really feels about it (and possibly more importantly, whether or not she had anything to do with it) but it's clear there were problems in the marriage. As other strange things start happening around Aimee it becomes increasingly difficult to work out what's real and what's not and as she is constantly pretending it's hard to tell how she really feels. Consequently I was never too sure what to think about her. I think I liked her and was rooting for her but there were moments when I really had my doubts. Interspersed with the Aimee in the present day is the story of a little girl in Ireland who wanders away from home to look at the pair of shoes she really wants in a shop window. She knows she's not supposed to be out on her own and she's not supposed to talk to strangers but she does and bad things happen. This for me was the more gripping (and horrifying) part of the story. It's often dark and occasionally very disturbing (there's mental and physical abuse, and violence) but I found it difficult to stop reading it (although I may have skimmed over one particularly disturbing scene). It's clear there's some kind of connection between these events and the odd things happening to Aimee in the present but it's pretty much impossible to figure out what. The big reveal at the end however just didn't work for me. I'll try to keep this vague to avoid spoilers but while it was surprising it just wasn't believable. Anyway, regardless of the ending it is a well written and gripping story so it hasn't put me off Feeney as an author. I will still be looking out for whatever she writes next. |
Fast paced and disorientating, this thriller will keep you gripped from start to finish! Alice Feeney has delivered another corker of a novel packed with twists and turns that will keep you guessing. I'm looking forward to see what she will write next! |
This was a good read, a slightly different plot, but my pet hate of switching eras, but still I enjoyed it. It really was quite difficult to guess exactl how it would end, so it was quite a surprise when it did end in that way. The rather harrowing story of a young girl removed from her family and brought up in a rather harsh way by the new "family" took a little bit of reading. It is hard to read of a child struggling in that way. The person she became sounded interesting and the plot developments from there were rather different. All in all an enjoyable book. |
Yes, I enjoyed this book very much. It didn't follow the path that I thought it would and the ending was a total surprise. It was interesting right to the end. A good read and one to be recommended. |
When Aimee comes home and discovers her husband is missing, she doesn’t seem to know what to do or how to act. The police think she’s hiding something and they’re right, she is – but perhaps not what they thought. Aimee has a secret she’s never shared, and yet, she suspects that someone knows. As she struggles to keep her career and sanity intact, her past comes back to haunt her in ways more dangerous than she could have ever imagined. Fabulous twists and turns as the plot develops, yet still the final unexpected reveal leaves you stunned. A believable and heart wrenching story line with intelligently crafted characters. The complicated love/hate relationships that characterize Aimee's childhood are the experience of many. |

This was gripping - kept me hooked to the shock end. Lots of twists and turns and plenty to keep those pages turning. The first book I've read by this writer, but it won't be the last. Thank you so much to NegGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. |

Definitely one of the best books I’ve read lately! So many twists, and the final one I could never off guessed at! Definitely worth a read! |
I hadn't read anything by Alice Feeney before but loved the blurb of this book. Aimee is an upcoming actress with secrets. She wakes one morning to find that her husband Ben is missing and we soon discover that the police suspect Aimee. Set during two timelines, we follow Aimee's struggles to find out what happened to Ben as she tries not to be too open with the police. Aimee has secrets and it's as the story takes the reader back to her traumatic childhood that we slowly learn what those secrets are. There were parts of this book that I loved and other bits that I struggled with. Overall I did enjoy, I Know Who You Are. It's dark, full of twists, and I defy anyone to guess the shocking ending. |
This book is amazing it had me hook line and sinker and then some. Never in a million years would I have guessed what would happen. I love books with a shock ending and this one blew me away!! |
This book is seriously disturbing. The storyline has numerous twists and is very well written with some very nasty characters along the way. The ending was shocking! |

Aimee Sinclair is an actress and thanks to being cast in a lead role in a hot new film, she is about to become a very well known actress indeed! Her fame is just reaching the point where she is being recognised in real life but who really knows Aimee? Her husband Ben who has vanished after an explosive argument with Aimee the night before? Her co-star Jack who Ben suspected of being more than just a colleague of Aimee's? Or a fellow actress and rival who Aimee suspects may have had an affair with Ben? The big question is - where is Ben and what does Aimee have to do with his disappearance? The book covers two timelines - Aimee's present day life and her traumatic abduction and upbringing as a youngster which works fairly well but at times I was doubtful that the childhood memories were Aimee's at all. Overall I did enjoy this book. There are plenty of twists although some of them are slightly unrealistic at times. The shocking ending though was just brilliant and one that I truly did not see coming at all. A very good read for fans of psychological thrillers and a solid 4 stars from me. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
Great book, really enjoyed it, love the way the plot unfolded. Highly recommended Many thanks to Netgalley and Alice Feeney for the copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily. |
I really enjoy thrillers, and more than anything else I love a lot twist. This started out a lot like Gone Girl, which really excited me as I loved that book! Sadly, the 'twists' were just a bit too unbelievable for me to really enjoy them. I found it a well written book, and I did like the general plot - it kept me guessing until the end for sure. I just didn't love it... |

Initially I found the book a bit difficult to get into but once I was half way through, I did start to enjoy the story. Overall Im glad I did not give up on the book. |
Aimee Sinclair is an actress who seems to have it all; the gorgeous husband, the rising career, the lifestyle, the stalker... Then one day her life falls apart, she returns home and her husband Ben is gone and after that slowly day by day Aimee's life unravels. The problem is Aimee has secrets, dark ones and it seems somebody else knows and is determined to use them against her. At one point I felt so sorry and sad for her but the ending, Wow! I did not see that coming and it made me feel physically sick.! A shocking, amazing thriller which freaked me out and left me going over it in my head ages after I'd finished the book. |
I’m not sure how I feel about this book. I struggled a little to get into the book and then when I did it just didn’t click with me. A bit for me but am sure others will love it. |

I really enjoyed Sometimes I Lie and was looking forward toI Know Who You Are by Alice Feeney. I wasn’t disappointed. This book is a lot darker and there are some scenes which are fairly gruesome, but I didn’t find any of it gratuitous or OTT. There’s a lot going on. Aimee, the central character is an actress and consummate liar, so it’s difficult for the reader to determine what’s true and what isn’t. The plotting is complex and I found it impossible to second guess where the story was leading. It’s well paced and the final twist really caught me by surprise. This is both gripping and chilling and I enjoyed it. My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley. |
I really enjoyed this book. The "baddies" are nasty people Well written characters. Clearly defined story that flows easily along. Definitely an author to look out for. |
As I went into this blind I was wondering what could be happening. Even halfway through I still had no idea where this could be going. I did have some theories about Ben and the stalker. Which I was sort of right. The big plot twist at the end disturbed me. It was so strange and shocking I didn't know if it was good because I didn't see it coming or bad because of how creepy and disturbing it was. I even had to take a second to reread that part to make sure I had read it right. Overall this did keep me gripped throughout. Even having a WTF did I just read moment. Which never really happens to me. |

I received an email yesterday 14th June at 3pm advising I had been accepted to review this book. When I went in to download it less than an hour after I received the email I was advised it had been archived and was no longer available. How could this happen within one hour of been approved to review it? Thanks |
