A good concept that wasn't executed properly. The author is an under-writer and this story required more fleshing out of characters and world.

I like the premise, and I tried really hard to find something I liked about the book. In the end it just not is something I would pick up again.

This is just very much telling rather than showing, and I wasn't able to get very far through the story... Not for me

I've been so behind with my Netgalley books so I made an effort this month to read as many Netgalley books as I possibly could so I can finally review them. The synopsis of this book sounded amazing as it involves dark magicians, corpses rising from their graves, an army of the undead and a fight for survival...the reality was a little different. We follow Leonos as well as his family and a group of other individuals who've banded together for protection against the hordes of undead commanded by a necromancer as they try to survive.

Let's begin with the positives and those include the vivid horror/zombie elements, it was a very quick read and I did like the world on the whole. However, I found some of the actions of the characters to be ridiculous, the dialogue was VERY cheesy at times and the world and characters weren't initially described very well at all so it seemed vague and disconnected, if that makes sense. The premise sounded amazing but the reality was very disappointing sadly. I wanted to DNF this book a few times so at the 38% mark, I did.

I have held off on writing my review for a while now, simply because I don't like writing bad reviews. I was given this book for free to read and review through netgalley.

The story is written from several perspectives throughout the narrative and is set in a fantasy world. To be completely honest, I really struggled to get through this book. The setting itself was rather interesting and yet didn't really have much focus throughout the book. More time was devoted to the characters and yet, they fell very flat to me. The only thing that I did like was that, what character development they did have, was very well done and deep. . .but. . with that being said, they didn't seem real. The interactions between the characters, the dialogue all of it was bland, short, and took turns that I feel are unrealistic to how people in those situations would actually act.

All of those considered, I would have still enjoyed the book had it not been for one overarching detail. The writing style. I am sorry to say but I hated the writing style. The sentences were SO short. I get that people get criticized for writing run-on sentences but this author had the exact opposite problem. He had so few words in each sentence and the immediate sentences were usually started with a conjunction. . . .so why not just connect them? The way that he wrote descriptions of places and people were very much the same. . several exceptionally short sentences and it is not like he made up for it with long paragraphs. . Everything in this book was kept short. .The sentences, the paragraphs, the chapters. It was probably the hardest book to get through that I have ever encountered. Plot be damned, I dragged myself through all of those short chapters just hoping it would end.

Very interesting blurb and idea but I found it hard to read. Would be great if it was little more packed out and details better explained. I like being able to in-visage the world I'm reading about but I struggled to do this

Pale Wolves by Thomas Hulse, an interesting book. The dead have risen and are being led by a sociopathic young man who raised most of them. They act and think in packs and have been christened as wolves. Written pretty well, but what threw me off was the extremely short chapters.

Not a fan of this at all unfortunately, I tried to like it as the concept sounded so good but I found it slow and uninteresting mostly, the sex was inappropriate at times I felt and was unnecessary. The characters were not interesting and couldn’t empathise with any of them.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

The publishers accepting my request not even five minutes after I requested it should have been my first clue that it was not going to be as incredible as I thought.
The sentences were fragmented and either too many short sentences together or too many long ones together. There is too much telling and not enough showing. I had to DNF it after the multiple times of two characters having sex with each other while his pregnant wife and kids are in the house. I felt so disconnected from the characters and it kills me to say this.
I thought it was going to be fantastic because who doesn't love necromancers and dead armies with claws and fangs? And the cover is gorgeous I am in love with the cover. However, I fell out of love with the story from the first line. I felt like I was reading the first draft.
