The witches, beasties, goblins, and Royals return in this spellbinding conclusion to New York Times best-selling author Megan Shepherd’s Grim Lovelies duology.

The story continues just where the the Grim Lovelies left us. Shepherds masterly creates an incredible fantasy world. The conclusion is faced paced on the edge of your seat. The characters have progressed and the storyline is more developed. Shepherd’s lyrical writing style is creative and enjoyable. This book has just the right amount of romance. loyalty and Friendship and knowing you can overcome any obstacles .

This was a fantastic follow-up to GRIM LOVELIES.

One of the things that sets this series apart from others is the beautiful writing style of Megan Shepherd. It is lyrical and magical, and almost like a spell in and of itself. The world she creates is one I'd like to disappear into.

These books have SO many characters in them, and it would be easy to lose track of them, or for some of them to be throw-away characters, but I don't feel like that happens at all. Anouk is such a deep character who experiences a wide range of emotions while she discovers more and more about herself, about what she's capable of, and what she really wants. The gang of other beasties are unique and entertaining, and cool in their own ways.

There is a lot of romance in this book, and *sometimes* it overshadows the story *a little*. But that's JMO. There are people who will love that.

I do like the travel aspect - the story moves outside of Paris to other places, and those just add to the richness of this world.

Overall, an extremely enjoyable read. Enjoyable enough that I will pick up whatever the author writes next.

A worthy follow-up to Grim Lovelies. All the character development that made the first book seem slow here has fully fleshed out the story. Anouk and her partners in arms are out to save the world...and the adventure is heart pounding, heart wrenching and exciting throughout. The second book is even better than the first.

Fierce, brave Anouk who is a "beastie" must brave a test most never survive, in order to become a witch and help save her friends. I loved this book so much! The urban fantasy setting was reminiscent of Holly Black, by way of London and Paris. Anouk was such a wonderful main character-- flawed and messy but always hopeful. And much as I enjoyed the romance, it was the friendships (and gorgeous found-family) between Anouk and the others which really made the story.

This was a beautiful end to a stunning duology. The imagery was as lovely in this story as the first, and we were able to pick up right where we left off with our heroine. Her hero’s journey continues at a glorious pace. I hope we are lucky enough to get more stories from this world; even in the form of a novella!

I. Loved. This. Book. Big thanks to NetGalley for giving me this ARC to review!
I fell in love with Grim Lovelies, which I received from EpicFest, and as soon as I heard there was a sequel I knew I had to get my hands on it. There's just so much to love! Allow me to demonstrate.
The characters, first of all. AUGH I could go on about the characters for years. Anouk is such a wonderfully deep character with so many hopes and dreams and fears and regrets and emotions. Just, all of the emotions.
Then there was the ROMANCE. UGH I LOVE THE ROMANCE IN THIS BOOK SO MUCH. If I'm being honest, it is the single greatest part of this novel.
If you don't like romance, I would still say read it because the plot is really great too, but you may not enjoy it as much as I did. RENOUK FOREVER Also, no spoilers or anything, but if you at all like me you're going to hate the ending of this book.
Just saying.
Megan's writing style is absolutely beautiful too. I don't quite know how to describe it. Like, it's not elegant, but it's majestic.
She just describes everything in a way that brings it to life. Like, if Roshani Chokshi's writing style is like the stars in the sky, Megan Shepherd's is like a thunderstorm. Best example I could think of.
There was no English cursing that I can think of in this book, but there was probably some in French. Nothing overly sexual, just like some stuff hinted at and some kisses. Mentions of alcohol and smoking I'm pretty sure.
And there are two sexually *diverse* characters who to me just felt awkward and unnecessary. And of course, there is magic. Such a wonderful book. Four out of five stars.

"A spark of magic flared to life in her throat, spreading a ripple of warmth through her lips."
What a lovely, magical, nail-biting end to the Grim Lovelies duology. I have fallen head over heels for Anouk as the heroine, and I felt a surge of emotions because of my connection to her character.
Anouk started as nothing--an animal--then was made a maid, then a princess, then a witch. Her story conveys an important message to readers everywhere, that no matter who you are or where you come from, you can beat all odds and become something great, something fierce.
This book was well-written and addictive. It was difficult to find a perfect chapter to stop for the day while I read. The only downside to Midnight Beauties being the end to Grim Lovelies is that Shepherd opened the door to some new information regarding the original beasties, and I'm not sure we will ever find out what will come of that. Hopefully she will release a prequel or a side story to help satisfy my curiosity.

Midnight Beauties begins shortly after Grim Lovelies ends. The battle is over, Anouk's fellow beasties are caught, many friends are dead, and she and the goblins are stuck in the manor with no good or hope. In comes Rennar who's ready to make a deal and work together to save the world before it's too late.

What follows is an exciting journey of self discovery. The bonds of friendship are tested and new ones are forged. Who can be trusted and who is working against them? The answers may surprise.

Unfortunately, this book seemed to go through the sophomore slump. I enjoyed the first book, receiving an arc copy at work, but I felt that this sequel kind of dragged a little bit.

I really enjoyed this conclusion to the Grim Lovelies. It had all of the action, character development and swoon that I have come to expect from Megan Shepherd. I would have given it 5 stars but I felt that I needed another pass at editing because there were some areas that felt off track.

So I read the first book already, but this one just blew me away. Megan Shepherd proved once again that she has what it takes to be top dog. The characters, like last time, were to die for! I just couldn’t stop reading it! You must read this book, it is definitely taking up the number one spot this year.

First off, I'm kind of mad that this is a duology because the ending totally lets the world be explored further! EEK! But, I have to say that I really really really enjoyed this novel and I'm so incredibly pleased by how it went.

Grim Lovelies left us on such a dramatic cliffhanger and I wasn't sure how the Megan Shepard was going to stitch our feelings back together, but holy crap did she do just that. This novel is an incredible whirl-wind of action, magic, romance, and bad-assery. I was kind of meh on Anouk in the first novel, but she finally comes into her own in this novel and I seriously want her on my side in any kind of fight. That's also why I'm sad that this is only two novels because I want to know what goes on after the book.

The characters and world-building are so rich in this book. We not only get to see a bit more of Paris, but we also get to travel to Germany (Hello Black Forest from the Grimm Fairy Tales!), and London. Each character adds a level to Anouk's story that really helps her take on the world and try to make everything right for those she loves. It's a very thrilling conclusion and you will NOT be disappointed if you pick up these two novels.

In the thrilling sequel to the Grim Lovelies book you find yourself launched into the thrilling magical world of Paris. Things are not as easy as they would appear and the beasties find themselves facing a new sort of darkness threatening to destroy the world they are inhabiting. It's up to the beasties to show the world what they are truly capable of. I found the world Megan Shepherd created exciting and adventurous. The character development in this book makes the reader feel as if they are a part of the story and truly care about the outcome of the story. While all the details at times were a little distracting I found the overall story completely captivating. This book throws the reader for many twists and turns and a exciting ending.

I was lucky to get an advanced copy of this lovely book from NetGalley. Since I read it early, I'm not going spoil anything. I will say that I was very happy with Midnight Beauties because it takes the action and plot of the first story and expands the conflicts and world while letting us tag along with the characters we loved while meeting new, interesting characters. It's a wonderful continuation of the story.

I can't wait until it is published so that I can get a physical copy for myself and a copy for my classroom library.

I hope you will add it to your to-read list! You won't be disappointed!

This book was received as an ARC from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children's Book Group - HMH Books for Young Readers in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Hearing that this was the spellbinding conclusion to the Grim Lovelies series and how positive the response has been to our young patrons, we knew we had to take a look at Midnight Beauties. I do have to say that I did like the book, however there were some tangents that happened that made me drift off a bit and get caught off guard making it hard to stay on track with the book. Once I got back on track, the book was very invigoratingly intense and it was definitely a sparking conclusion to the series. All of our favorite characters are back in this final chapter better than ever, and Megan Shepherd definitely saved the best for last.

We will consider adding this title to our YFiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 4 stars.

I enjoyed this book way more than I expected to based on the first novel. I was happily surprised to find that most of my issues with Grim Lovelies were explained or given purpose in this story. I always enjoyed the world created in this series, and I was glad to be taken on a fun ride again with the beasties, royals and pretties. Sometimes the magic got a little confusing, but it all leads up to an action packed roller coaster of a conclusion. I could not stop reading toward the end, I just needed to see how everything turned out right away! For me Grim Lovelies was needed for character building, at the end of that novel I wasn't fully invested in the characters, but midway through this one I absolutely was. Anouk especially gets way more interesting, and I developed an unexpected fondness for Prince Rennar as well. The most interesting character development for me though was Petra. She seemed like such a random throwaway character in Grim Lovelies, but in Midnight Beauties we see her purpose and potential revealed and I loved every minute of it. Overall a fun and enjoyable ride - a quick read that takes you through a roller coaster of emotions, but leaves you with a smile on your face.

Like the first book, this one had such unique and original aspects! Sometimes I felt the story had too many things going on and I was disappointed about the sort if love triangle thing going on. I also wanted to see more of Beau’s and Anouk’s relationship develop. However, the writing and characters are truly beautiful!

I didn’t read the first book in the series but Midnight Beauties is a good read. Love the mix of real life, magic & fairytale in the YA genre. I’m interested to read the first book & any other that are to follow to see what’s to come.

There’s a edginess & it’s not all sunshine & rainbows. The prince & royals aren’t all their cracked up to be, though they are still charming when they want to be & of course, lovely to look at.

I would definitely recommend to students & to enjoy this type of YA reading.

Shepherd continues her series of haute-couture witches, goblins, and beasties in the highly anticipated sequel to Grim Lovelies. Anouk, now a powerful force in her own right, is up against forces darker than the witches and Royals who formerly held the keys to the kingdom. Making a dangerous alliance to secure her friends' freedom and sacrificing her power for a greater purpose, Anouk must face her own fears about her humanity in order to save everyone she loves-and possibly her former enemies. Midnight Beauties is a dazzling, non-stop ride that you won't want to end.
