My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Bonnier Zaffre for the ARC.
I must confess I haven't read any of the previous books in this series so for me it was a standalone. I thought the opening chapters introducing Sara and Matthew Prior were really enticing; a really good prelude to the criminal investigation. I also found the information on DS Cody's previous experiences extremely helpful in order to understand the back-story which runs into this particular novel.
Sara Prior arrives home to find a puzzling message on the answerphone from her estranged husband Matthew. Rushing to his house she finds his gruesomely murdered body.
How could anyone have hated him so much to do that? Matthew was introverted and mild-mannered.
Sara keeps replaying his last message until she begins to work out its meaning and assumes the role of avenger.
DS Cody and DC Webley are supposed to working together on the case, but Nathan Cody has other things on his mind - not least of all, apparently, his mental health, relating to a past case involving torturers in clown masks and mandatory appointments with the Force's psychologist..
However, I think there is a great deal of existentialist self-analysis on Cody's part which really is entirely unnecessary; for me this detracts from the story as a whole. Similarly, I'm not such a fan of move-by-move descriptions of close-quarter combat for Sara to overpower surprised and unsuspecting opponents.
Overall I think it was an OK story but after the introductory passages I felt it rather lost its momentum.

For anyone new to this authors books, Your Deepest Fear is a novel in the DS Nathan Cody crime series. It does read well as a standalone but I reckon you will be rushing off to buy the others after this one, which are just as fantastic believe me!

The author gives us a great mix of the case that Cody is working on as well as more closer to home, involving what happened to Cody in the past. I loved reading both threads, especially the one to do with what happened to Cody previously leaving him to be the damaged man he is today. I really makes for some gripping reading.

I loved Sara’s character in the story. There is just something about a strong female role that really appeals. Maybe it’s because a little bit of me would love to be like her. She really is a force to be reckoned with and I loved her determination.

Your Deepest Fear is a great addition to the already brilliant series. A lot of the story focuses on Cody, of which fans are going to love. There was a hint of humour in places and I particularly loved the scene in the shoe shop. It’s hard to really delve into this story without giving to much away, but, this is yet another twisted, thrill of a read that will have you pounding through the pages. Dark and oh so chilling. Loved it!

I was so thrilled to receive the arc of this 4th instalment of the DS Nathan Cody series and whew-ee this one hell of a great read. The character of Nathan Cody is developed even more and in this book he really does have to face his demons err clowns !!! It was also good to see more of Grace Meade a character I really do like a lot. This book has everything its creepy and extremely addictive but it’s also has humour and a damn good mystery thriller at its heart so I just raced through it and loved every page, sad to finish yes but very satisfied in reading a book I thoroughly enjoyed. Brilliant writing as always by the wonderful David Jackson and what’s more to say than read this damn book it’s fantabulous, roll on book 5 I just can’t wait and if you haven’t read any of this series give it go you won’t regret it.
My thanks to NetGalley, David Jackson and Bonnier Zaffre for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Absolutely brilliant addition to the series, a twisty, scary tale with a huge addictive quality that makes you race through the pages even though it is inordinately creepy. Sleep with the lights on!

Clowns. That is all.

Full review to follow for the tour.
