Really enjoyed this book and the setting made it feel atmospheric. Interesting MO for the killer and lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I will definitely look out for more from the author in the future!

An excellent Scandi Noir thriller. Twisty plot, great characters, and a Swedish setting that is atmospheric and chilling

First time reading this author and certainly won't be the last.
This book is so full of twists and turns it keeps your head spinning.
It can be quite complex at times as there is two different storylines running at the same time but as you get further into the book it all makes sense.

There's not an awful lot I can say about this one other than it's another Scandi noir. If you like the genre, you'll probably like this, although I found it overly complicated with too many characters. A bit of editing could have made it a tighter novel. Having said that, there's still an enjoyable story in here and it kept me engaged until the end.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.

Unfortunately this book just wasn't for me and I had to DNF. This doesn't reflect the author or the work, it just wasn't my style or genre and whilst I love to try new things, I could not connect with this. However, I am thinking of trying another of Ahnhem's works, giving it another go and seeing if it is just this book that didn't work for me.

Couldn't finish this one, unfortunately. Too much information, and too many characters. If it was an epic fantasy, then yes carry on. However, trying to cram that much info in the small package it comes in, is just too much strain on the reader.

I found this book quite hard to read at first only because of the strange place and character names but once over that I qjuickly became engrossed in the story and I am so glad as it is a great story, full of twists and turns. Characters are strong, storyline well written draws you in slowly but doesn't let you go and how the victims died gruesome!, I can imagine myself inside a freezer because if the way it is written
.I would definately read another book by this author.

My thanks to Head of Zeus for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Eighteen Below’ by Stefan Ahnhem in exchange for an honest review. It was originally published in December 2017. My apologies for the late feedback. This is one of the titles effected by my vision problems, since surgically corrected.

‘Eighteen Below’ was originally published in Sweden in 2016 and was translated from the Swedish by Rachel Willson-Broyles. It is the second in his series of crime thrillers featuring Fabian Risk and his team.

Although this was the first book I have read by Stefan Ahnhem, I had no difficulty in getting a sense of the characters and setting.

Astrid Tuvesson, chief of the Helsingborg crime squad, has just entered her car outside her home. Then a speeding car knocks off her side mirror. She pursues them, ends up rolling her car, and is shocked to witness the other vehicle drive off the quay into the sea. When the body of the driver is recovered, it is revealed to be Peter Brise, a wealthy tech entrepreneur. It is quickly ruled a suicide likely caused by stress until the autopsy reveals something shocking about his body.

No more plot details to avoid spoilers but wow this was astonishingly good and what a plot! Very complex and so many surprises. I could hardly bear to put it down. Kicking myself a little for not reading this earlier.

After this fantastic experience I now plan to read the other books in this series, from the beginning. Book 4, ‘X Ways to Die’ has just been published on 7 May by Head of Zeus in ebook and audiobook editions.

It became apparent when I was reading the book that this is the second in a series of books about the Swedish detective Fabian Risk. I am sorry I didn't read it in order, as the hints to previous investigations sounds like they too were gripping.
I am a fan of Scandinavian police dramas and this one did not disappoint. Fast paced and tense, it was well written and made me keen to uncover what had happened. It is dark and explicit in it's descriptions, so not for the fainthearted. Risk is a very likable character however and I was cheering him on from my chair. I will definitely read the third novel that is available now and the fourth novel that is published in May 2020.
Thank you to the author and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book on the fabulous #NetGalley

I really struggled with this book. For me it was difficult following so many characters and multiple crimes, I kept trying to connect the dots but just found it too frustrating and was glad when I finished it. Maybe if had read the first two books this one would have been easier to follow.

I recieved an advance copy of this book in return for an unbiased review. All opinions are my own.

Wow! Dark, This is the 3rd book in this series and it didn't disappoint. Character-driven. I could not put the book down. Stands alone, but definitely helps knowing the first two novels to get an idea of the characters and their life changes that they are going through in the background.

Really enjoyed this book.. Begins with a car chase and the car crashing into a river. An autopsy reveals that the body recovered was already dead before he hit the water. Turns out it had been deep frozen (eighteen below) -- but who was driving the car? Found the plot to be somewhat confusing, however, worth pursuing.

I have got used to reading difficult Scandinavian names so although I think it can be a bit of an issue for some it was more the complicated story that failed to hold my interest. Not only multiple crimes but the complex character background issues.

A fast paced Scandanavian crime novel which kept me hooked throughout. I did get confused at times but I hadn’t read the other books in the series. I wish I had read those first.

I had a huge problem with the number of names that were thrown in throughout the story.
This made the story a lot harder to follow.
The body count was certainly high and particularly gruesome.
Although overall I enjoyed the story and it kept me guessing all the way through.

This is the first book I have read written by this order and I will definitely be looking for others by him

Very complicated mass murder investigation that has two seemingly unconnected stories. The involved lives of the investigators seems to be the main thrust of a storyline that I found confusing and never really gets a decent explanation. Somewhat disappointed but maybe there will be a further tale that ties up the many loose ends.
