I've read many books about a dead girl and a girl who lied. I think it's becoming fairly popular in this thriller area. I liked Kaira Rouda's writing, but about the plot, it has potential to be better, more unique. |

This was a read and a half! The author introduces Jane as a bereaved mother trying to get her life back on track, attempting to rebuild her marriage and make amends with her other daughter. There are subtle hints and clues dropped and soon we realise that things are very much not as they seem. I really enjoyed the character of Jane. I don’t want to include spoilers in this review, but I will say that she’s a character that will get into your mind and stay there. There were a couple of things I didn’t like- Kylie was pretty unbelievable (I can’t believe that David would have such bad luck!) but overall this was an entertaining and fast paced read. I will look for further books by this author! Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my copy of this book. |

I really enjoyed this great book, thanks for letting me read it. Two sisters, a lying, jealous, manipulative mother, and a innocent father who knows nothing about what is going on. Jane has always wanted to dominate her family and gets angry when things do. Not go according to plan. She will do anything to have her own way, anything. Well done Kaira Rouda for this great book, and will look forward to reading your next exciting book. |

3.5 stars Major SPOILERS. Alarm bells are ringing on this one before even finishing a few pages. It's clear that Jane is nuts. Delusional. Or as I suspected, had narcissism disorder. It crazy creepy the way she tries to control and manipulate her family. From the beginning o was sure she had killed her daughter... There were a few more things I guessed along the way,all of which were true, and just added to the tension of the book. A real page turner. I think I'll be seeing it on a lot of beaches this summer. |

Well this is one very entertaining read, with a lead character that you will just love to hate !! Jane is still struggling to get over the tragic death of one of her daughters, Mary. A year has passed and Jane has decided it is time to stop the medication and get her life back on track. Her husband, David and youngest daughter, Beth have both moved on with their lives since Mary’s death but have they left Jane behind ? The story is told front Jane’s perspective but can we fully trust everything she tells us ? Does her daughter Beth know more about her sisters death ? What secrets are everyone trying to hide and can Jane discover the truth ? This really is a great read with some very deliciously witty parts. Jane is s character that you will not forget in a hurry and I for one was very pleased she wasn’t my Mum !! Thank you to HQ and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book. |
Favourite Daughter by Kaira Rouda Thanks @netgalley @kairarouda @hqstories for my ARC Publication date 30th May 2019 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Well this was such a fun and crazy read. I absolutely loved it. This was read in one night! The story is narrated by Jane who is the most self centred, narcissistic woman but somehow quite lovable wife and mother. Jane has had a breakdown following the death of her eldest daughter Mary, and as she quite honestly tells you Mary was ‘her favourite daughter’. Jane has decided she has to fix things, mainly her marriage and her relationship with her youngest, surviving daughter. But things are never that simple. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• This book was truly brilliant. It was dark, funny and brutal at times. I can imagine some readers may hate the main narrator. I on the other hand loved her. Yes she was awful at times, truly awful but I loved her honesty and bluntness and just could not stop listening to her story. As the story progresses Jane only gets worse. She is self centred and completely pretty delusional about her relationships and the way she is portrayed by others. I still couldn’t help but feel sorry for her at times. This book was so well written and it’s clear the author has a sound knowledge of narcissistic behaviours. Highly recommended xx |
