Lil and Max have a one night stand with an outcome neither of them anticipated. Max stands by Lil and wants to be involved in his child life. A few twist and turns. Fast-paced amusing book, ideal summer read. A little crude for me in places but over come by the quality of the writing and the blunt truth of what is said.

Lil has a one night stand with Max after meeting on a dating app. They have an amazing night but next morning Max has gone leaving Lil with a brief note saying he had an early start.
On returning home Lil is shocked to see him being interviewed on television, he’s a famous climber and is shortly heading off to climb one of the worlds worst mountains. When she doesn’t hear from him before he leaves Lil determines to put him behind her and get on with her life. Until a few weeks later when she discovers she is pregnant with Max’s child.
With the help of her parents and friends Lil decides to go ahead with the pregnancy even if it means being a single mum but when Max returns from his climb will he support her decision or turn his back on her and his child.
Great story of friendship, family and love interspersed with genuine laugh out loud moments and characters you can really relate to.
Lil is a brilliant character, totally relatable and I was cheering her on from the start.

What a lovely book! Read this in 2 days. Thoroughly enjoyed it. There were a few spelling and grammatical errors but that didn't detract away from anything, whereas usually it puts me off! Her honesty about pregnancy and labour were hilarious, and having read 'the plus one' a few months ago and was disappointed with the lack of laugh out loud moments, this novel had me laughing on nearly every page!

After a one night stand, Lil is left with more than she bargained for. The idea of a pregnancy on her own may seem a big decision but she quickly realises she wants her baby.
But how will she be able to cope with the relationship she will have to have with the baby daddy?
A slightly comical book in places this would be a good easy read perhaps on the beach.

Cheated on by her boyfriend of 8 years, Lil decides it’s time to get back on the dating scene, it’s been 6 months after all! And despite the nerves, her first date goes well, a little too well, and she ends up spending the night with the handsome Max. But Mr handsome is not Mr honourable, and he ghosts her the very next day. This is bad enough, that is until she finds out she is pregnant with his baby!
This is a laugh out loud funny book, candid and blunt at times, but a genuinely funny read. I loved Lil and her very eclectic group of friends and family, and I couldn’t help but like Max too.
An easy and enjoyable book that would make a great holiday read.
My thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.

Headline : Familial Cart Before Horse
In a kind of backwards love story Lil finds herself playing out her own early family story with Max, a dashing adventurer who it turns out is also dealing with his own family traumas.
The characters are sympathetic with the usual twists and turns resulting from misunderstandings and communication gaps.
This book was provided as an advance copy by the publisher in return for an honest review.

I provided the above review on Amazon on 23 August 2019

A romping romcom - genuinely funny and utterly, compulsively readable. A predictable scenario, perhaps - a one night stand, an unplanned pregnancy, an eligible batchelor - but it's great fun and a perfect holiday read, from your armchair or otherwise.

I have to say that what I originally liked about the style and voice of The Plus One, the first novel by Money-Coutts, remains consistent with this book. The author has a way of mixing a brash, brutally honest voice with a dark sense of humour and a devil may care attitude. Imagine 'Knocked Up' meets 'Friends' with a dollop of British snark.

Lil ventures back into the shark infested pool of dating and meeting potential partners after she is discarded by the person she thought was the one. Instead she finds that she is his number two, something she was completely unaware of. So much for trust, happiness and loving relationships.

When she meets a handsome stranger it seems like the perfect opportunity to prove to herself that she is still desirable. One thing leads to another and in the heat of the moment two become three, which throws both Lil and Max off their game.

I enjoyed the way the author made this a conversation about pregnancy and choice without making it confrontational or veering into extreme views. It's just a woman, her thoughts and her emotional response. Alternatives are brought to the table the way they would be between friends. Again, kudos to the author for keeping this lovely, fun read in its lane.

It's a funny and at times emotional contemporary read. You can't help but fall in love with the quirky characters and their places in this story. There aren't many authors who can replicate an air of realism, as opposed to the fictional feel of a read, but Money-Coutts is one of them.

When I heard that Sophia Money-Coutts had a new book coming out I knew I had to read it. I really enjoyed her debut novel, The Plus One. I found it hilarious and completely captivating. I expected the same from her second book and I wasn’t disappointed.

What I loved most about WHAT HAPPENS NOW? is the protagonist. Lil Bailey is realistic, engaging, and funny. She is honest, loyal, and kind, the type of character that I wish was by best friend. She is a teacher in a prestigious boys school in Chelsea, she has a few good friends, and she has a fantastic relationship with her parents. All in all, she is a normal girl, but her life becomes a bit complicated when, after a one-night stand (with a few sex scenes that made me cry from laughing), she finds out she is pregnant. Handsome and charming Max, the father of her baby, is a famous mountain climber and he comes from a noble family and they don’t have much in common. Lil has nine months to figure out her relationship with Max (does she have feelings for him?), her living situation (she is flat sharing with a couple who does yoga and has loud sex), and how she is going to raise her child (can she really be a single mother?).

As I already mentioned, I loved the protagonist Lil, she is my kind of gal. I liked her at the beginning of the story, but I also liked how she grows and develops, the person she becomes at the end. I also liked her friends, the twins Jess and Clem. This duo created some of the funniest scenes in the book with their witty dialogues and their easy relationship with Lil. Although sometimes I found him a bit snob, Max is a likable character, even if a bit mysterious. Other characters worth of mention are the children in Lil’s class who with their honesty and with their innocent yet embarrassing questions made me laugh quite a lot, and the feared and stern mistress of the school which I found a very interesting character.

Friendship, love, motherhood, and loss are all themes the author addresses with her clear and flowing writing style using humour, but also a few emotional moments that gave the story a more serious tone. I laughed, I fell in love with the characters, I was completely engrossed in the story, and I am hoping that we will get to read more about Lil and Max and what happens next.

Having not been out on a date since her long-standing boyfriend had left her, teacher Lil Bailey met Max Rushbrooke online and agreed to meet up. After spending the night together, Lil discovers that he’s actually a celebrity in the mountain climbing world and his dad is a Viscount. Busy planning his next expedition, Max doesn’t reply to her messages and then disappears (literally) while climbing in Pakistan. Fast forward a few weeks and Lil discovers she’s pregnant. Can she bring up a baby on her own or can she get Max back on board?

An amusing story, with some interesting characters to warm to. I especially enjoyed the interaction between Lil and her best mate Jess and her twin brother Clem. The dialogue between the three flowed well, without the stilted writing of some stories, and their friendship seemed believable and real.

Definitely recommend to fans of romance.

She finds a dating app and decides to go on a date. It is there she meets Max a very good looking man. They have a lovely meal and enjoy each others company. One thing leads to another and they end up sleeping together. 🤰
The morning after Lil wakes up to find a note from Max. Max suddenly cuts all contact with Lil. She has really fallen for him yet he does not reply to any of Lils texts nor What's App message.

What Happens Now? follows Lil who has recently split from the guy she thought was the one. Lil ventures back out on the dating scene and falls pregnant from a one night stand with a guy who turns out to be the son of a Lord and Lady, and he is a semi-famous climber.

On a personal note, the protagonist is from Norfolk and the love interest is from Suffolk. I live in Suffolk and very near to the Norfolk border – in fact, I am possibly moving to Norfolk! – and I loved reading about characters from my neck of the woods.

Sophia’s writing is easy to read and the book flies by. She writes Lil as a lovable and down to earth character that you can relate to. She has a great sense of humour and she was a modern woman, trying to live her life the best she can. Her friends were all unique and added to the humour too.

Obviously, Lil is unexpectedly pregnant and she has to decide how to handle this and I liked how the topic of abortion was touched on in a relaxed way. It was discussed as a viable option for women, which is of course is, but it can be such a large conversation and I didn’t want it to overshadow the plot. Because what do you do when you’re 31 and fall pregnant with someone you don’t know? Are you going to be able to have a baby if you give this one up? It started a great discussion about growing up and how your life and circumstances change you.

When Lil gives birth it is realistic and not romanticised and I really appreciated that. As someone who thinks childbirth sounds terrifying, I was glad to read something realistic but not too concerning.

After breaking up with her boyfriend of eight years - the boyfriend that was supposed to be "The One" - teacher Lil Bailey finds herself unexpectedly back on the dating scene.

How to even begin? Well, a dating App seems appropriate for the times, after all, everyone lives their lives using Apps these days, don't they? One swipe right later, Lil ends up on a date with the unbelievably handsome mountaineer, Max.

They hit it off straight-away and as first dates go, this one is a huge success. After a very pleasant evening, with the wine and conversation flowing easily, it seems oh so natural to accept Max's invitation back to his place, even though Lil is nervous about having sex with a new "someone". Lil is on the Pill after all..what could go wrong?

The passion flows as easily as the wine and conversation, and Lil is surprised by how much she enjoys herself with the very fit Max, but he is worryingly absent when the morning comes and he proceeds to ignore all her messages after their date. Oh well, onwards and upwards....

What follows next is not exactly how Lil envisaged her future. One positive pregnancy test later, Lil has some serious decisions to make. She is single, thirty-one and living in the spare room of the tiny Brixton flat of a sexually athletic Australian couple, so not exactly the happily-ever-after she was hoping for.

When Lil decides she is ready to do the baby thing on her own, it seems she has to tell Max about his impending fatherhood. The Max that it turns out is the celebrity son of Lord and Lady Rushbrooke....the Max that is currently trekking up a dangerous mountain in Pakistan....maybe he wasn't ignoring her after all?

I absolutely loved Sophia Money-Coutts' debut rom-com The Plus One, so I when I got the chance to read What Happens Next? before publication, I was very excited indeed!

I just love Sophia's style of writing - the words simply roll off the page and once you start you cannot help but lap them all up until you get to the delicious end. Her characters are adorable (except the ones you are clearly allowed to hate), her wit flows freely, and there is enough emotion to require the nearness of a handkerchief at all times. She also has a way of writing about "posh people" that gives you a real glimpse into their lives - whether it be highlighting tragedy or eccentricity - that shows they can be just as normal as the rest of us (or not!). I have, yet again, laughed and cried my way through another of Sophia's books, and loved every minute.

Yes, this is a wonderful romantic comedy, with plenty of heart and soul, but it also poses an interesting question. What do you do if you find yourself pregnant after a one-night stand?

Well, it seems that the answer really boils down to "might this be your only realistic chance of motherhood?". Lil reasons that had she been in her twenties when this happened, her immediate response would probably have been abortion. Being in her thirties however, casts a different light on her predicament - how many real chances would she have of having another baby if she chooses not to go ahead with this pregnancy?

The stark way in which Sophia Money-Coutts outlines the probability of someone Lil's age being able to get pregnant again is pretty harrowing - it comes down to a numbers game that is probably not going to be in Lil's favour at her age, especially since she is single. Lil's only realistic chance to be a mother is the one she has been given right now, and it seems obvious to her that she has to grab it with both hands - even if she faces the prospect of being a single-parent.

When, and if, to be a mother is a dilemma for the modern age - one that has come with the advent of birth control (although accidents to occur, as Lil discovers!) - but the influence of "Old Father Time" on biology does have a part to play in our choices. What do you do if you are single and want to be a mother, but the clock is running down? Food for thought....

Second books can be tricky, especially when your debut has been such a huge hit, but let me say right off that this one is going to be a real winner too!
I am a firm fan of Sophia Money-Coutts and cannot wait to see more please!

PS. Sophia...am I right in detecting that Miss Montague has a little secret of her own?

This is the classic tale of girl meets boy, girl gets pregnant, now what?

Lil has just broken up with her boyfriend of 8 years and finally puts herself out there again six months later. She meets Max and has a great time with him then it all goes pear-shaped.

Although I felt like it was quite cliché in some places, it was a nice, easy read and it did make me want to keep reading to see what would happen next (why I ended up finishing it in less than 24 hours!).

I loved all of the characters and it was just enjoyable to read.

I am so excited to be part of the Blog Tour for What Happens Now by Sophia Money-Coutts! Thank you to the team at HQ, for being so kind to send me a copy of this book!

Without further delays, let’s see what I thought…

What Happens Now by Sophia Money-Coutts is a wonderful story that features Lil, who is a normal lady, living a normal life. She thought she has found ”the one”, but after so many years, this fellow dumps her for a twenty-year old blonde girl.

Doing what everyone should do, she moves on, and tries to find a new match, choosing a dating app and swiping right. She finds a handsome man that seems to like her and arranges a date. She gets ready, meets this guy, has a few drinks and spends the night at his apartment.

What is the worse thing that can happen?
Well – firstly, he doesn’t seem to respond to her messages at all. And then, she discovers that he is, in fact, the famous mountaineer Max, who is currently out there somewhere, climbing a mountain and can’t actually see her messages, the Max who is possibly Prince William’s best friend. But on top of it all, after weeing on a stick, she discovers she is pregnant with his baby.

So now Lil is single, thirty-one and living in a small flat in London, and this is not how she expected to become a mum. But our lady Lil here is probably the bravest woman I have ever encountered in my books, and she decides to do this whole motherhood thing on her own. Yes – she really likes Max, and it would be amazing if he gets involved too, but she doesn’t need him really. She can do this!

Throughout this book I felt so empowered to read about Lil’s daily challenges and I was cheering for her all the way through. She, and all women in the world that had the courage to give birth to and raise a child on their own should be praised, and I can’t think of any words to describe how brave these people are and how much I admire them!

Lucky for Lil, she has her mother and her stepdad along her way throughout the whole journey, and these two people are the friendliest and kindest people in the world.

And then there’s Jess – Lil’s best friend, who is, by the way, THE BEST FRIEND anyone wants. She was EVERYTHING and I loved her so much! She was always there for Lil, giving the best advises in the world. We all need a Jess in our lives!

And to be honest, given my low opinion on Sophia’s first book, The Plus One, I didn’t have high expectations on this one, but I think she outdid herself and created a masterpiece! The writing style has improved so much, that you wouldn’t notice these two books have been written by the same author.

I loved reading about Lil’s journey – I truly did. The writing was gorgeous and I couldn’t put the book down. Very empowering, but at the same time a very light summer read. I recommend it to all of you – read What Happens Now? this summer, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This is Money-Coutts’s second novel and is a step up from the first. Whilst I enjoyed her first novel, it did have the like-me-like-me tone of many first novels and too much was crammed into it which made it a bit of an uneven read. Her second novel, however, is much calmer and therefore more coherent as a result.

What Happens Now tells the story of a pregnancy that is the result of a one night stand between Lil and Max, so far so been-there-before you might think. But the story departs from what you might expect to be the normal trajectory (not least the ending) which gives the story a fresh, more realistic feel that means that you invest in the characters more than you normally might.

Where Money-Coutts really succeeds is dealing with her central character. There is too often a tendency in chick-lit to create daffy, slovenly women who are a lazy reaction in a post-Sex and the City world. Instead, Lil is likeable, realistic and you feel warmly towards her and her predicament and hope that everything works out for her .

There are some loose ends, however. What happens with Max’s family? His father is drawn as quite a cartoonish character and that side of the story (the baby will be Max’s heir) is left totally unexplored. This isn’t even mentioned which seems odd when there are several mentions about Max being part of the aristocracy.

However, this is a minor quibble for a novel that is enjoyable and warm.
