This is an interesting story of sisters who don't get along well, but due to outside circumstances find themselves working at the same place. An interesting read.

I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

A great story about second chances, relationships between sisters, and mothers and daughters. I felt like the story was a bit slow though and none of the characters were very developed. I really wanted more background on both sisters and the daughter. Just didn't feel complete once I finished reading it.

This is a decent light novel. It covers a young journalist whose life implodes. when she makes a major gaffe at work, she ends up running home to her estranged sister's house. The sister runs an illegal at home restaurant, so she is pressed into service helping her. Over the course of the book, both sisters examine their lives and priorities.

This is fairly well written, but easily forgettable. It would make a good beach read, but I won't automatically seek out more by this author.

I received an arc from NetGalley for an honest review. This book was a decent read about sisters who have grown apart and resent one another. One sister is a successful newscaster and the other is a single mother with a secret supper club. When things go south for Julia in the news world, she heads for her sisters. I read this entire book and I liked how it wrapped up, but it was a slow read.

I love stories about family and sisters. But this one just did not do it for me.

We start off with broadcast journalist Julia who's overslept and has to rush to catch her morning news broadcast. She's already in hot waters from her boss because of the low ratings. Now, here was my first problem with the story. When her boss calls her to express displeasure about her not garnering enough ratings, she's confused because she's doing her job of what's asked her. So she doesn't get why she'd have to care about the ratings. Now, I could expect an inexperienced girl in her 20s to think like that. Julia who's apparently experienced and worked hard to reach this position acting like that just didn't sit well with me.

Julia acts like this confused, naive and pushover girl for the rest of the story. After she impulsively acts on a gossip she heard on a party and asks the mayor who's guesting on the show thanks to her co-host about it. She's of course suspended. And the first thing she does is leave the city and goes to her sister in Arizona without letting her know beforehand because she needs to escape, without having her husband know. And she justifies that having called her sister Ginny ONLY TWICE and not getting a response means she can just drop uninvited on her doorsteps. It's the same sister who she apparently hasn't had contact with in 3 years. Then she spends rest of the book ignoring the problem she left over at her job.

Ginny, on the other hand, is a divorced single mother. She had to pack everything up and leave her job as a premium chef in New York after her parents died. Julia who we now know to always escape her problems, refused to leave her important job and stayed behind. That left the elder sister Ginny with a lot of bitterness about having been the one to sacrifice. She now runs a clandestine supper club at her own house with the help of her daughter who hates her and is closer to the dad. I found Ginny even more unlikable than Julia. She's unapologetically bitter and cold. I get that she's having money problems, and is just not happy with her life, but the way she treated Julia and her daughter, just got on my nerves.

The only character I liked was Olive. But when a story is about two sisters and you don't like either of them, then it's difficult to like the story itself. Besides, it was very slow. Nothing seems to ever happen. And the main conflict gets solved too easily. I like character driven stories but I could not relate or empathize with any of the characters. Nothing about this book worked for me.

It took a while for me to get into this book...but I am glad I stuck with it! A tear jerker for sure, a great story line and well developed characters.

The Second Chance Supper Club by Nicole Meier is a novel about second chances, but also about the relationships between sisters, mothers and daughters and, ultimately, the power of family.

Julia is working as an anchor on a high profile news show when she inadvertently commits career suicide live on air, hurling accusations against the mayor that she cannot substantiate. Looking to escape the fallout, Julia heads home to Arizona to reunite with her sister, Ginny, with whom she has been estranged for three years. But Ginny does not provide the sympathetic ear that Julia had hoped for, herself struggling to keep her supper club afloat, and navigating a tumultuous relationship with her twenty- one year old daughter, Olive. With both sisters' lives in shambles, will they be able to forgive each other and have a second chance at becoming the family that they once were? Will an underground supper club bring the two women together, and remind them just how much they have to gain if only they can bring themselves to put past hurts behind them?

This is a pleasant read that I woud not hesitate to recommend as a lighthearted and uplifting reminder of the power of the familial bond, particularly between sisters.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC.

They had a forever bond until a sudden tragedy thrust them apart. Now, each at a crossroad in her own life, two sisters’ paths are about to intersect.

Broadcast journalist Julia Frank has it all: a career, an ambitious fiancé, and the hard-won respect of her peers. Until a ruinous decision destroys her reputation, puts her job at risk, and sends her reeling toward the only soul left to turn to her estranged sister, Ginny.

The owner of a clandestine supper club hidden in the Arizona desert, Ginny Frank has a lot on her plate. The last thing she wants is more drama—or the burden of nursing her younger sister’s wounded ego. But family is family. Besides, Ginny can use the help in more ways than one, and she’s going to make sure Julia pulls her weight.

As a tenuous reunion reopens old wounds, Julia and Ginny have no choice but to confront the pain and betrayals of the past. Will work to keep the secret supper club running be just what they need to find common ground and a path toward forgiveness, or will the increasing stress push them even further apart?

I felt it was a slow book with no real bite. Maybe, it was me but it could be a book written ten times over. Not one for me. Thanks, NetGalley for the advance copy for an honest review.

I don’t know why but reading The Second Chance Supper Club I had a strong sense of deja vu. The content felt extremely similar to something I’ve read in the past so I suppose the storyline doesn’t feel original enough for me. Although it’s not badly written I found it rather boring.
Basically the novel centred around sisters Julia and Ginny and Ginny’s daughter Olive. Julia is a high flying Tv presenter in New York escaping the rat race to spend time with her sister. Ginny, a brilliant chef, runs an underground supper club from her home in Arizona with only Olive to help her. The sisters become estranged when their parents are killed and Ginny is left to pick up the pieces whilst Julia is intent on furthering her career. A misguided decision by Julia threatens her Tv career and she escapes the fallout and her fiancé by seeking refuge and solace with Ginny in Arizona.
This book is about sisterly love, pursuing your dreams and new beginnings. In Julia’s case it is time for reflecting on a life that she’s worked very hard for but ultimately doesn’t make her happy.
I wouldn’t say I hated this book but I didn’t love it either. For me there was no real depth to the characters and it’s one of those books that quickly fade into the background without leaving any real impression on the reader. It’s an easy read and if you’re a foodie yourself then possibly you’ll enjoy the book more than I did.

I couldn't sympathize, empathize or like these characters. It was slow moving and didn't have much of a plot to me.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this arc in return for an honest review

A good book, actually a lot better than I was expecting. I love a book with some depth and with believable, complex relationships. The characters were well drawn, with human failings, but also human strengths. The mother daughter relationship was very well drawn and must resonate with every mother and daughter. I have no experience of having a sister, but again, I felt that the complexity of this relationship was well depicted. A satisfying read, without the sickly sweet perfect ending that mars some popular fiction. Worth reading.

The Second Chance Supper Club is the story of Sisters, Starting over, taking risks and second chances .
Estranged sisters Ginny and Julia reconnect after Julia makes a huge mistake at work and returns home to Arizona.
Ginny runs a secret underground supper club out of her house ( I never knew these existed)
These sisters lost touch after life sent them in different directions. Not only do they work our their differences , they actually inspire each other to take chances and change the direction of their lives!
I felt like I was in Arizona eating a great meal at their kitchen table. I enjoyed this book and while this is my first book by this author , it will certainly not be my last !

The second chance supper club novel is a good example of the relationship between two sisters and how other experiences can affect their relationship. After a work mishap at the tv station she works at Julia runs away from her fiance and job in NY city to visit her estranged sister Ginny in Arizona. Three years prior when their parents died Ginny dropped her life/work and moved back to Arizona to take care of their parents estate. Ginny decided to stay on and open a private dining club at her home with the help of her daughter Olivia. When Julia shows up unannounced after not talking to Ginny for three years things are a bit strained. I liked the way this book went back and forth between the different sisters points of view to explain what was happening as the two try and look past their previous differences and help each other shape a new life in Arizona.

Julia and Ginny estranged sisters reunite in a book full of emotion which explores what it means to be family, how to forgive and start again. These sisters seemed bonded until a tragedy parted them. They reconnect when they face a crossroad in their own lives. Julia’s career is in tatters sending her running back to her sister Ginny. However Ginny has no time for Julia’s theatrics as her time is absorbed with her secret supper club in Arizona. Unable to turn her back on Julia Ginny puts her to work in her club. With the sisters working together in such close quarters old memories and past wounds are laid bare. Anyone with siblings can relate to this story. I loved being with Gilly and Julia as they worked through their difficulties and carved new paths for their relationship. Would recommend.

I really enjoyed this book by Nicole Meier. The Second Chance Supper Club is just that... all about second chances.
Two estranged sisters, Ginny and Julia get a second chance at a relationship. They end up needing to lean on each other and their bond is strong than ever.
Ginny and her daughter get a second chance as well. Olive, Ginny’s daughter, has been unable to pursue her passions since she’s had to help her mom run her supper club. Once Julia steps in to help, olive is more free to pursue her passions.
Julia and Ginny both get second chances at their careers and this time doing something they love and desire to do.
Even Julia seems to get a second chance at love!

I am rating this book that I received as an ARC through NetGalley at 4 stars. I really enjoyed the character development and ease of reading.

Unfortunately, the story was just okay for me. The book was a bit too descriptive of all the incidentals, I found myself skimming through pages to get to the meat of the story. .

Sisters Julia and Ginny have been estranged for years, but it takes the collapse of her career and her love life to send Julia running back to her sister. Ginny doesn’t have time for her sister’s drama, she’s up to her elbows running a secret supper club in Arizona. Still, she can’t say no to family and decides she’ll put her sister to work in her dining enterprise. Working in such close quarters would be difficult for sisters on the best of terms. for these two, the constant pressures of running the supper club open up a lot of old wounds. Can they get over the past and find a way to bridge the past? Anyone who has a sibling will be able to relate to this story. Have your tissues ready
