I can't believe that this is the six book in the Kane and Alton series and OH BOY WHAT A PAGE TURNER.
I am in reading heaven and back in Black Rock Falls. This is the darkest read in the series so far. A school girl is kidnapped and a message is sent YOU HAVE 24 HOURS TO FIND HER OR I KILL HER !!!!
An action packed , tension filled rollercoaster of a read WOW. As I said before this is the sixth in the series and this author had me well and truly hooked after reading the first one. This read is riveting, gripping and plenty of heart in your mouth moments I LOVED IT!!!! An easy five stars and so Highly Recommended.

When teenager Lindy Rosen disappears from her bedroom one night Jenna and the team swing into action with a full scale search and rescue mission. Jenna quickly realises this will not be a standard investigation when the kidnapper contacts her with a deadline and if she hasn’t found Lindy he will kill her. Unfortunately it soon becomes apparent that he is on a spree as Lindy is only his first victim.

I thoroughly enjoyed Whisper in the Night which is an exciting, action packed and tension filled roller coaster of a read and a welcome return to form. I wasn’t so keen on the previous novel, Where Angels Fear, as I thought it was too easy to guess but this is much better with a broad suspect pool, any of whom could be the perpetrator, and a very unpredictable plot line where the twists and shocks just keep coming. It is highly entertaining and had me turning the pages at a fast clip to see what was coming next.

Throughout the series I have moaned that the set up of three highly skilled former Federal Agents being relocated under the Witness Protection scheme to the same small, rural town which just seems to be the serial killer capital of America with no explanation is highly unlikely so in this one Ms Hood offers a small explanation in passing. Interesting but probably not the full story so I’ll just have to read the next one in the hope of a fuller, more credible explanation. Obviously my search for the truth will be a great hardship but I’ll persevere. Seriously, I’m already looking forward to their next outing.

I like the characters Ms Hood has created. Jenna Alton is a kick ass Sheriff, brave, smart and caring - I don’t think I could put my body through as much she does and keep going. David Kane is no slouch either in the superhero stakes. Equally brave, smart and caring he has further skills in combat, risk assessment and psychological profiling. They are complemented by Shane Wolfe, medical examiner and all round technical genius.

Whisper in the Night is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Lindy Rosen wakes in the night convinced there’s a man in her room although her parents can’t find anyone and assume she’s having a nightmare. Then Lindy disappears and Sheriff Jenna Alton along with her Deputy Dave Kane are called in to investigate. Jenna receives a message and video from the perpetrator saying she has six hours to find Lindy before she dies. Soon after one of Lindy’s school friends, Amanda Braxton, also disappears in similar circumstances and Jenna realises that the man, nicknamed ‘Shadow Man’ by reporters, is playing a game with her and needs to be found before he strikes again.

‘Whisper In The Night’ is a worthy addition to the Alton and Kane series and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The plot is complex, there’s lots of action, twists and turns, and enough suspects to keep me guessing. As with the previous five books, I was convinced I knew the identity of the killer but once again I was completely wrong. It’s compulsive and thrilling reading with nail-biting action and a dramatic and nerve-wracking ending. Although this appears to be the final book in the series, I’d love to read more of Alton and Kane whose developing relationship is a pleasure to read.

As gut wrenching thriller as this series is, I give a happy sigh knowing complacency about life will be tested, I will be scared, thrilled and even through the losses in these stories there is a form of HEA. Love Love Love Kane (sorry he's not Dave to me) and Wolfe. Jenna is learning to trust and to lean on her team. There are multiple possibilites for who the killer is and I love how we are part of the thought process of the Sheriff Dept. S

This series is SO GOOD and this book does not disappoint. Right from the get-go, the story is fast paced. The way the author weaves in and out of the various scenarios keeps me on the edge of my seat. Lots of twists that I did not predict, but nothing so unrealistic that it wasn't believable. I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish.

a creepy book with a young teenager waking up to whispers in the night and a boogey man at the bottom of her bed...when she calls out for her dad each time and though he looks by the end of the fifth night maybe the search isnt as thoroughly...and maybe in the morning he will regret it as she is gone

with no clues or any signs the detectives are stumped and then the next girl goes missing and again the rumour is she heard whispers in the night...

a complex story for the detectives to find out the killer and with hints of old cases were they looking at a serial killer in their midst....

i found the main characters very easy to get to know being as how this is my first book and in reality its the 6th one in the series but it didnt put me off...maybe the lead female detective could do with a bit more backbone as i did find her slightly annoying come on she is the sheriff but apart from that gonna keep my eye out for more of this authors work

Lindy Rosen has been abducted from her bed in the middle of the night. The kidnapper has sent a video of her to Detective Jenna Alton and given her six hours to find her. Unfortunately the killer isn’t playing fair and Jenna and her team are too late when they find Lindy. Then another girl disappears - this time she just walked out of her house disarming the alarm system on her way. Jenna and her team work around the clock to try and find the perpetrator and have multiple suspects but cant narrow the list down to one.

I’ve read and enjoyed all the books in this series and this one didn’t disappoint. It had me gripped from the first page.

I have not read the prior books in this series. I did feel like I was able to follow the storyline. It is a good mystery. Some of the dialogue seemed a but trite and I was not into the potential relationship being hinted at. But the book was enjoyable and I will be going back to look for some of the earlier books in the series as I would love to know more of the backstories of these characters.

There are more suspects in this book than you can shake a stick at! When Lindy Rosen is certain there has been a man in her room at night her father checks each time but never finds anyone.  When she disappears without trace it looks at first as if she is just another runaway but that misconception doesn't last long.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team in Black Rock Falls have got used to hunting the more serious criminals their county has to offer. This time however, the clock is ticking in more ways than one and despite the links between the victims the killer still remains elusive. Running on coffee fumes and very little sleep Jenna and partner Dave Kane use all the tools at their disposal as well as skills gained through years of law enforcement but never feel they are close to being one step ahead of their perp.

This is a story which gradually increases the tension until you just hope something is going to fall Jenna and Kane's way and, although there were, as mentioned, a variety of possible antagonists, I had no idea whodunnit until they were finally unmasked in a very satisfying denouement. The characters were well written and, in their sixth outing, well rounded and interacted convincingly.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who has read the previous books or is a thriller buff; this won't disappoint.

This is the first time I have read the book by author DK hood and I loved it. One of the better mysteries compared to other books I read recently.

The book is about the missing girls in a small town and how Sheriff Jenna , her deputy Kane , medical examiner Wolf solve this. The only thing I wished was that ending could have been better as why the guy was kidnapping/murdering the girls in the first place. Did he have any childhood trauma ? There are some hints which reader can interpret in their own way, personally I do not like open ended interpretations.

Still I was hooked and enjoyed the book.

This is a nerve jangling, tense thriller that keeps you guessing till the very last second. If I had my breath much more I would have been blue.

Looking forward to Kane and Alton's next adventure.

I just love this series of books from D.K. Hood. I have read all the series so far so couldn’t wait to read this one. I wasn’t disappointed. I just love the way the main characters interact and their blossoming relationship. The style of writing really draws you in and quickly grabs you so you just have to carry on reading to know what happens! Although it can read as a stand-alone I would recommend reading the series in order to get the backgrounds on all the characters. I highly recommend this book and series.

Whoop whoop back to Black Rock Falls again which seems to be a magnet for the weird and not so wonderful…. They somehow attract serial killers!!!!

This is the sixth book in this series and I have to say I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading them! One piece of advice, in my opinion you should read these books in order as you get more information and back detail as the series progresses.

This time the team are on the hunt for “the Shadow Man”…. It begins when a young girl Lindy goes missing from her bedroom after telling her parents for the last couple of weeks that there was someone in her room but her father never finds anything, having checked every nook and cranny… what happened to Lindy? Sheriff Alton and Kane are on the case, however, when Jenna receives a video message showing the girl in distress and giving her a time line in which to find her or she dies, the pressure is on… will they find her on time?

A dangerous game is being played by the unsub and Sheriff Alton seems to be in his crosshairs…. So many suspects, interviews and nothing to show for it…. With little to go on, can they stop him?

A wonderful game of cat & mouse, it draws you in and doesn’t let you go, you just need to know, I love this series and if there weren’t so many serial killers attracted to the area…. It sounds like the idyllic place to live…. One thing though, are Kane & Alton every going to get it on… things seems to be heating up to atomic level between the pair of them… it would be nice to see them get their happy ever after!!!

Bring on the next instalment, can’t wait to find out whats in store for the residents of Black Rock Falls!!!

With this book I decided to get out of my comfort zone. This really is not the type of books I read, I prefer the quite English mysteries with not too many thrills and spills.
But I must say this book was exciting, nail bitingly thrilling and moved so fast that I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. It is a book that one can't not get involved with, the characters where good and the story well written, without bad language and unnecessary violence, yet scary.
Must try another.

This book was amazing I really enjoyed it, I haven’t read the whole series yet but I don’t feel like you have to read them in order. This is book 6 in the series and I have to say the best of the 3 I’ve already read. I recommended this to my book club and several friends. I don’t recommend lightly so for me to do so tells you I enjoyed the book. I have ordered the ones I haven’t read yet and am anxiously awaiting their arrival.

Whisper In The Night – D. K. Hood

This is number six in the Detectives Kane and Alton series these absolutely must be read in order. There is so much detail regarding the team their own specialities and just how they slot into the team. I can hand on heart say that I absolutely love this series which is high praise indeed from me as currently I am currently favouring British crime/Police procedurals. I’ve been hooked from the first to last page and hated having to put it down to adult.

D.K. Hood takes care when she writes about the violence that has been done to the victims it’s done in such a way as to allow the readers imagination to come to the fore. I personally prefer that rather than to read gratuitous violence written just for the sake of it anyway my imagination can be a scary place.

Nicknamed The Shadow Man is the latest fruitcake to take residence in Black Rock Falls and he’s leading them a merry dance this time. Preying on the young and vulnerable in the area he somehow inserts himself into their nightmares in a rather ingenuous way. As usual Kane and Alton the team with their extended family give their absolute all into catching him.

I have to say it’s a dangerous place to live; serial killers are attracted to Black Rock Falls for some reason. I think it could be the surrounding area the woods, the lake and the wide open spaces giving plenty of places for the seemingly many deviants to act out their sick perverted games.

This series just gets better and better, there’s so much scope for this pairing not only the ‘elusive’ relationship ship that reminds me of the whole Ross and Rachel from friends situation. There’s also the up and coming team, Wolfe’s daughters Julie and Emily who just happen to be super smart and Blackhawk who could track a ghost if need be. I am already anxiously awaiting number seven; please tell me there will be one?
