That COVER! What an eyecatcher! RESIST starts off rather untypical for a non-dark romance. Some might scrunch their nose at it, but I found it was a breath of fresh air that for once it was not the hero who seemed a criminal but the heroine. Ha! And seeing that heroine – whose name is rather untypical too with Vaughn – trying to resist the hero’s – Ryker’s – charm was everything: sexy and funny and even annoying at the same time. And don’t worry, even if you are not a fan of Vaughn at first, I’m sure you’ll warm to up her! There’s some serious push and pull in this story, and while I loved the snark there was to it, it got a bit too much toward the end. Some of it just could have been avoided without taking away from the story – it might have even made this story just one full length book, and not a duet. Now we have a cliffy and a month-long wait to see where it all ends. Ugh! But anyway, RESIST is definitely one fun-filled romance so worth reading. An escort / lawyer romance with some serious bite, some power games – a story of falling – no matter how much you try to avoid it. I’m looking forward to more of Vaughn and Ryker! |
This was a very hard read for me. From the get-go, I didn't like the hero, who was way too domineering and judgmental, especially towards the heroine. I found myself skimming parts because I couldn't stand his character and didn't see what the heroine saw in him. I wish I could've enjoyed it more. K. Bromberg is a hit or miss author for me and this book was definitely a miss. |
Who doesn't love a good K. Bomberg book she is AMAZING I love her writing style and the characters she brings to life. Resist was a whirl wind steamy romance that had me melting into a puddle of mush! Any fan of K. Bomber must read this book! |
I love a good enemies-to-lovers story, and Resist did not disappoint! Ryker and Vaughn have an amazing connection, even though it's mostly friction and extreme sexual tension in the beginning. Watching their power struggle was so much fun! K. Bromberg always delivers strong female leads, and I love Vaughn's strength and her vulnerability. These characters are flawed, jaded on love and have both been deeply hurt, and just when you think they have it figured out...BAM! I can't wait to see how it all plays out! |

Bromberg never disappoints! Brothers, their challenges, and the women that have the privilege of being loved by these men. I rarely find that I can take time away when I read one of Kristy's tales. I feel pulled right into the story with the heroes and heroines that Kristy portrays with multiple depth and dimensions. Wherever there is a dashing hero displaying his flawed self, there is a very lucky lady who hopes to be blessed with his adoration and love. |
Oh yeah! Explosive! Hooked. Hot. Alpha male. Sassy smart female. Chemistry, intriguing. Tangled web. Yeah it all equals awesome written story! My favorite kind. Love this duet. Couldn’t put it down. Read it. Now! |
A K, Reviewer
Up front, you need to know this book ends in a cliffhanger, folks. So you better plan on reading book 2, Reveal, before you even begin page 1 of Resist. With that in mind, there are 343 pages in the first book, 363 in the second. Why am I mentioning this? Because if you are looking for a quick read, this is not it. Between the constant back and forth relationship angst, most of it angry, the heroine’s complicated, multi-layered character, the surprising reason she needed so much money, the hero’s job/own personal drama, and bad guy element, this turned into a much longer read than I expected. Ryder was a ruthless divorce attorney used to getting his way so his male only clients could get off the marital hook with as much money still in their pockets as possible. Didn’t matter the reason or who he had to run over to get the job done. After being duped by a woman he actually grew to care about, he turned to Wicked Ways for some on demand arm candy and fun. Yeah, it’s implied he’s used this type of service a couple times in the past, but normally, he did it the old fashioned way… by dating. Vaughn (also known as Vee, Saxony) has to rush to the rescue of someone and winds up playing a pretend role that doesn’t work out. Angry at first, Ryder is intrigued and starts pursuing, more like manipulating her so he can get to know her. I did stay riveted though this book had elements I usually avoid and couldn’t wait to jump in the next sequel. At 40% into that book, it’s feeling rather drawn out with an impending “know it’s gonna happen” bad guy showdown looming over their head. I can’t wait for that nasty, evil villain to get what’s coming to him, that’s for certain. Title: Resist, Series: Wicked Ways (Book 1), Author: K. Bromberg, Pages: 343, first book of two book series, MUST read in order, waitress/escort service owner heroine who needs money for a good reason, top pay divorce lawyer, VERY steamy scenes, cliffhanger ending, reference to a suicide, flashbacks of child molestation, sassy/feisty/protective heroine, LOTS of angry relationship angst. Book 1 - Resist, Pages: 343 Book 2 - Reveal, Pages: 362 (I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review. There is no relationship between this reviewer and the author, publisher, or NetGalley.) |
K. Bromberg loves to surprise her readers and to take risks with unusual stories and sensitive topics. The blurb is mysterious, it doesn't give much and that's really smart. It makes us curious and free of predjudice. The first pages are surprising and a bit unsettling. So you'll have to trust the author. If you have already read some of her books you know that with her appearances are deceptive. Nothing is done without purpose, people are not what they seem to be... Ryker is handsome, successful and doesn't want complications women bring. The heroine is mysterious, driven and her life is already complicated. He wants only her, she has other priorities. They need to achieve their own professional goals but for two different reasons. They both have "alpha" vibes, they both need to control. Even if it was frustrating sometimes that was a pleasure to see the push and pull between those two implacable and ruthless characters. Of course they are much more than that. Through the pages we discover the heroine has a few secrets. We see a vulnerable part of her, something which breaks our heart and makes us admire her more. As for Ryker... he can be really thoughtful and caring. "I thought how i felt was because you were a challenge but then i caught you. Then i thought it was because i needed to help fix you, but you fixed your broken parts yourself. I was wrong _ i just needed you." This is the story of two driven characters who don't trust easily, their cat and mouse game, the taming, the respect, the admiration... This is a book with secrets and twists, anger and love, frustrating scenes and steamy scenes... This is the story of a brave woman, a fighter. Resist ends with a big cliffhanger. I can't wait to read Reveal!!!! I need it asap!!!! "How far would you go to protect the one you love?" |
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publishers for an honest review. Blurb: From the New York Times bestselling author of the Driven series comes a powerful romance about reaching great heights through low depths. Who says you have to play by the rules to get what you want? Agreeing to meet Ryker Lockhart is my first mistake. Rich, handsome, and more than intriguing, he thinks blackmail will bend me to his will. But he’s wrong. I may have done a few things that weren’t exactly legal, but I have my own reasons for that. The last thing I’m going to do is let some high-powered divorce attorney come into my life, have my body, and rule my heart. Not to mention ruin everything that I have carefully built in just a short amount of time. But as much as I try to resist him, and against my better judgment, there is something about him that has me agreeing to his proposal. I’m putting everything on the line for him. I just hope I won’t lose everything when this is all over. Review: This is one of my best reads of 2019! I finished it all in one night and was so disheartened when it was over. It does end in a cliffhanger - just so you all know. I need more, like yesterday! It is an enemies to lover novel and written so well that you will stop breathing for a second when you hit the last word on the last page. It was sexy, intense, erotic in some ways, emotional, and so good! Kudos, Bromberg, you are a fantastic writer! |
Making a mistake is life is all about. Right? Meeting him would absolutely knock her world off balance and she would never be the same again. Ryker and Vaughn’s chemistry with one another simply balances the other out. They need each other to make sense of the turmoil in their life and make them realize they’re better together than apart. Absolutely loved it! |
I will admit this took me a bit to get into. The story line was different enough that I kept going. If it wasn't for the cliffhanger I don't know if I would have continued with the story. Vaughn has her secrets and for legit reasons. I'm not sure if her choice on how to fix her issues was the best solution but it did lead her to Ryker. Vaughn gives off the illusion that she has steel balls when dealing with scum like Carter but in reality she doesn't. At times she let her emotions get the best of her and because of that can't see what is right in front of her. "Princesses don't need saving, silly." she says. "They just need someone to take the trash out." I love Ms. Lucy. She probably is my favorite part of the story for me. Her spirit and personality was written so well. If it wasn't for Lucy and the desire to find out the truth I would have abandoned at the end sadly. i wanted to like it so much more that I did. 2.5 stars! |

K. Bromberg is an amazing Storyteller! Every single book I read of hers is great! Can't wait for her next book!! |
"I’m not like most women, Mr. Lockhart. I’m not one to be impressed by a smooth-talking man or a large bank account.” “Then what is it that would impress you?” The unexpected. I’m not a fan of the cliff-hanger books. I almost always feel like the story could easily be told in one Book, Maybe two at a push and the multi-book installments mean I’ve probably lost interest by the time I finally get to the end. However I wasn't expecting to like it and I couldn't stop reading it, so in the end enjoyed the read. |
To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know what to expect about this book when I was going into it. Sure, I’d read the synopsis and I suppose I knew a vague indication based on the genre, but I ultimately started Resist without much. And to be perfectly honest again, I’m not sure I know what happened after finishing it. Considering the romance genre, I found the writing mostly enjoyable to follow but the storyline and plot a bit lacking. I found myself skimming a lot of scenes but also engrossed in some of the interactions between characters. I questioned plenty of plot-holes which made the storyline that much more unbelievable, and I even questioned things that weren’t even plot-holes (because I’d missed small details when I was skimming.) Let’s start with the whole premise of an escort service. The idea that our main character, Vaughn (“Vee” or “Saxony”) is running an escort service, named Wicked Ways, is fine, great, you do you boo, and she seems to be organised and ball-breaking in the beginning. She takes care of her “girls” and does what she needs to do. Which is all shown in the first few scenes. After that, it’s scarce that we see her interacting with her employees at all (even though she said she wanted to keep her professional and personal lives separate) but I really can’t envision an ‘escort’ service functioning so impersonally. Not that I needed to see the inner workings or whatever, but the ‘girls’ were lily-pad characters. Characters that only exist to allow the MC to bounce through a plot. Our male protagonist, Ryker (yes, spelt like that), is a really misogynistic divorce lawyer. He only takes on male clients, because he thinks that they’re easier cases to win, and he’s the ideal high-end client that Vaughn needs to get the word around about Wicked Ways (gotta share that male white privilege somehow). Vaughn and Ryker meet when Vaughn needs to find a replacement for the escort which Ryker has requested, a woman who can do whatever she wants on her own time but must drop everything when he calls. There’s a fine line between loveable asshole, alpha-male and straight-up misogynistic asshole. Vaughn puts herself as the replacement, which I found incredibly confusing, considering she works at a club and also is the Madam of an escort business? In what universe is she able to just drop everything anytime and any place for a man? Honestly, the whole book had me all over the place and I can’t really concentrate fully on my thoughts. There were definitely good things in this book, but I don’t think there was much to rave about. The ending surprised me enough that I would think about getting the next book just to see what happens next. I’m all for good romantic cliches, alpha males and drama, but even I have a limit. 3.5/5 |
5 star This book pulls you right in. The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and a cliffy!!!! This is the beginning of Ryker and Vaughn's story. This is an edge of your seat ride. You can feel the connection right from the start witch pulls you in and keeps you turning the pages. Its a cliffy so yes you will be left wanting more. With all the chemistry flying around who really has the upper hand? Can't wait for the next part of this story to unfold. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this story. |
This is a very intense and sexy story. Ryker and Vaughen are a powerful couple. Both are very likable even when they repeatedly do stupid things. Ryker tries to convince the reader over and over again that he's a bad guy but his actions constantly show otherwise. Vaughen is possibly the most sympathetic Madam in the history of Madams. The story flows pretty well, although it is a bit of a complicated web of details as it progresses, it is easy to follow. My only gripe is that it is part of a duet which means it leaves you on a huge cliffhanger. Luckily it was already out when I read this book, but reader beware that there is a second book you'll need to purchase to complete the story. |
I am SO EXCITED for this book to be here! I loved Ryker and Vaughn and literally everything about them. The literally chemistry and tension was palpable while you were reading this. You can’t help but root for these characters and even though things don’t happen the way you think they will, ti is everything you want. But for real, the chemistry. I felt like this book as a perfect balanced dance and these who had no idea of the steps but were following their hearts. Then I got to the end and the cliffhanger blew me away. I love how this author writes not only strong females, but she writes characters that are also relatable and flawed. I truly loved every step these two took with each other. They were back and forth and had just enough plot twists to leave you on edge with what was coming next. I cannot wait to read the next book. I’m not above begging for it. |
This was a tough book for me to get through and maybe it was because it just had too much steaminess in it. The characters were well-written and the storyline was good but I just felt it was too quick a storyline. |
