Contemporary Romance Novella

Seattle, Washington – Present Day

Dr. Teagan Ransom returns to Seattle after a trip to New York City to learn that a mysterious—and very sexy—man has moved next door to her. After running into him—literally—she learns that his name is Garrett Frost. He is brusque with her at first, yet there is a tingling of sexual awareness between them. Her best friend, Roxy, hints that Garrett has experienced the recent loss of a child and Teagan is sympathetic to his loss. They keep running into each other, and each time there is heightened arousal humming between them. Soon, they can’t resist the pull of the attraction and end up having sex. Once isn’t enough and their sensual connection grows deeper. But is there a chance there can be more between them than just a fling?

BUTTERFLY IN FROST is a loose spinoff from Sylvia Day’s hugely popular Crossfire series as Teagan was a minor character in that series. Teagan has her own underlying sense of grief that isn’t readily apparent to readers. That is why she understands what Garrett is going through; he lost his son in a freak accident. Garrett is big, sexy, and attractive. He oozes sex appeal that is apparent to readers. There are plenty of sex scenes for readers looking for some hot reading, but it’s only part of the story because the emotions between Garrett and Teagan run deep. It isn’t until near the end of BUTTERFLY IN FROST that readers understand why. I must admit that even I wasn’t expecting the shocking twist pulled off by Ms. Day.

The characters of Teagan and Garrett will enchant you and pull you into the story. Their emotional connection is real and makes BUTTERFLY IN FROST an intriguing page-turner. If you’re a fan of the Crossfire novels, then you get a bit of a fix, as Eva Cross appears briefly. Readers might be shocked by the plot twist in BUTTERFLY IN FROST, but in the end, they’ll be happy for the outcome. Be sure and grab a copy of this enchanting tale.

Sandy M’s review of Butterfly in Frost by Sylvia Day
Contemporary Romance novella published by Montlake Romance 27 Aug 19

It’s been a while for romance readers to read something by Sylvia Day. I believe, though I’m not 100% sure, this is her first release since the last Crossfire book, One With You. Looks that way, though. Which is unfortunate, because Ms. Day is a damned good author. At least for me. So you can imagine I was anxiously awaiting this book after I found out about it, and, of course, hoping it would be great, wonderful, terrific, and every other adjective out there I’d come to associate with one of my favorite authors. Well…

My hope is realized with Garrett Frost and Teagan. This is a lovely, emotional story that will turn you topsy-turvy, not only throughout the book, but most especially at the end, one of those endings you never see coming – even despite the little tidbits of clues that my hindsight now picks up. Garrett moves in next door to Teagan, disrupting her perfect place she’s made for herself since transplanting from New York, where things just got to be too much after a divorce and all that goes with it. She’s made a few friends and is somewhat getting her emotional state in order, though she gets hit hard now and again, depression taking over.

Garrett is a world-renown artist and photographer. He’s also tormented by his past, a horrible time that left him empty. He also is on his journey to living again. Their meeting doesn’t go well first time around, but he wants to try again because there’s just something about her, issues and all. Thus begins the slow build toward what you hope is a happy ending. These two are so broken, but they are good together, helping each other out when one goes a bit downhill. Their pain is palpable and wrenches the heart.

I like that we get a tiny bit of Ava and Gideon from the Crossfire series. They’re worked in quite nicely. I also enjoyed Teagan’s best friends, Roxy and Mike. They’re kind, caring, and protective, just the kind of friends anyone would want to have, especially when life gets so very tough for these two late in the book. The sudden reveal took me by surprise. But Garrett and Teagan end up stronger for it, and I kind of hope we see them again somewhere along the road just to know they’re doing okay.

While I wish Ms. Day would write more books like she’s done over the years, if she continues to give readers stories as emotional and poignant as Butterfly in Frost, I can wait a bit longer for the next one. And the next one and the next one and…

This story is going to take you down a rabbit hole....

Ms. Day is going to send you on a trip of sorrow, grief and a love so strong it transcends the grips of grief that threatens to drag down the main characters.

This is the story of Garrett and Teagan.  Two lost souls that find comfort in one another.

There is a huge twist that is going to rock your world, you are soooo not gonna see it coming and when you do it's going to blow you away.

This is a fast moving story, at first I was a little hesitant about it.  But then when the story came to its moving conclusion, I totally saw the forest for the trees.  I saw the meaning behind the quickness and it really brought this story home for me.  I will definitely be re-reading this in the future with my eyes wide open.  Trust me when I say you will too!

I fell in love with Ms. Day's stories with the Crossfire series and seeing some characters make an appearance in this story was lovely to read.  Like a little reunion!

Do yourself a favor and read this book with an open mind and and open heart, you won't be disappointed!

I honestly don't know where to start with this book. I'm kind of confused how I feel about it. On on hand, it was pretty brilliant. On the other, I found it lacking at times. I guess I'll begin with my first impressions of Butterfly in Frost.

*Sylvia Day is a beautiful writer. Her words pull me in immediately and won't let me go.

*Both Teagan and Garrett were complicated characters with complicated pasts. I wanted to know more the entire time I was reading. I liked that it was a fast-paced story, but it was almost too fast-paced. I felt like I was missing something, like time jumps. I couldn't get a handle on it.

*I liked the relationship Teagan and Garrett built, but I couldn't quite get a grasp on how quickly it moved. It was so instant attraction that it was off-putting. I didn't get how Teagan could be okay with how quickly Garrett became practically obsessed with her. It almost felt creepy.

*I loved the cameos of some of my favorite Sylvia Day characters.

*The greater Seattle area setting: When I first started reading this book, I was impressed by the detail Day gave the area Teagan's house is in. She beautifully described the Redondo area. It's this gorgeous little pier area with and across the street and up the hillside are some beautiful old (and some new) homes. It's a little gem on Puget Sound. I can say this because I grew up not 10 minutes from Redondo and I have spent many hours there.

All of these thoughts were churning in my head the entire time I was reading. Then, WHAM! Plot twist. I didn't see it coming and suddenly everything made sense to me. The story was over pretty quickly after that, and I was left feeling a little unsettled. I needed more of a wrap up or something.

Butterfly in Frost is the hotly aniticpated and exciting new release from author Sylvia Day. Now, I don't know about all of you, but I have been waiting and I mean waiting for some new deliciousness from this author. And I gotta tell you, I couldn't have been more excited to dive into Butterfly in Frost.

Butterfly in Frost is a quick, sexy and passionate read. The characters are intriguing and will suck you into their story right away. Teagan intrigued me and I wanted to know more. And when Garrett enters the picutre, all bets are off. Garrett challenges Teagan in ways that she is wholly unprepared for. He is everything she shouldn't want and he totally knocks her world off its axis. Even with all of that, there is just something about Garrett that calls to her. Their connection is deep and intense. Garrett's ghosts call to her, almost like a siren song. It is just too hopeless for Teagan to stay away...

Overall, I thought this book was a quick and enjoyable read. I really enjoyed getting to know Garrett and Teagan. I liked their chemistry and enjoyed seeing them go through the paces. I will say that while this book was a short read, I didn't really like the pacing of the story. I did feel like it dragged at times, and that might just be me. The only other issue I had was the ending. Now, don't get me wrong, the ending threw me for a total loop. I mean, I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING. I was totally shocked and surprised. However, I was quickly disappointed because there was like only 4% of the book left. I feel like while the story did come to end, there is still a lot that needs to be resolved. I have a ton of questions that I want answered and I have no clue if there will be another book or not!! I mean, the ending of this story took off at light speed and I am just dying/hoping that there will be more. I know I'm being totally vague here, but ugh! The only thing I can say is read it for yourself and let me know what you think.

Butterfly in Frost will take you emotions on a whirlwind adventure. This is a story that readers are either going to love or going to hate. For me, I thought it was a solid story, I just had a couple of issues with it. In the end, this story nailed the sexy factor and left me wanting more.

*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
