I have just finished reading A Guilty Mother, such a sad story with an ending with quite a few twists . The story is told by the perspectives of the three main characters, Melissa, Jon and Kelly. Jon and Kelly are the journalists reporting on Melissa’s story and they have their share of dramas and history but are very likeable. Melissa is the mother who’s lost her twin girls and is in jail for murdering one of them and although her character is shrouded in mistery, I found myself hoping all through the book for her innocence. Many thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for letting me review this book. |
This novel had me on the edge of my seat as I was reading through the chapters. I wasn't sure what to believe and it was interesting hearing the different points of view as the story unfolds. |
Very interesting story but I feel like there was too much packed into the story and because of that I found myself a bit lost in some areas. |
#TheGuiltyMother #NetGalley A nail biting psychological thriller. She says she’s innocent. DO YOU BELIEVE HER? 2013 Melissa Slade had it all: beauty, money, a successful husband and beautiful twin babies. But, in the blink of an eye, her perfect life became a nightmare – when she found herself on trial for the murder of her little girls. PRESENT DAY Jonathan Hunt covered the original Slade Babies case for the local newspaper. Now that new evidence has come to light, Jon's boss wants him back on the story to uncover the truth. Is Melissa manipulating Jon or telling him the truth? Is she a murderer, or the victim of a miscarriage of justice Who is the culprit? Read this awesome psychological thriller to know. Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for giving me an advance copy of this book. A must read. |
I was given a copy of The Guilty Mother in exchange for my honest review. This book was written by Diane Jeffrey and published by HQ Digital on August 2, 2019. 2013- Melissa Slade is the mother of twin baby girls. When one dies of SIDS (cot death), everyone believes her. When the second dies of SIDS, she is sentenced to life in prison for the murders of her baby girls. Present day- The court has been presented with new evidence that could mean release for Melissa. Reporter Jonathan Hunt gets roped into reporting on this woman again. As he digs deeper into the people around her, he really starts to question Melissa's guilt. If she didn't kill her babies....who did? First off-I feel like my experience reading this book was vastly different than the majority of readers on Goodreads. It was just okay for me. There were a lot of scandalous plot threads woven into the book, and I don't feel like they all got properly resolved (Kathy, the stepdaughter, Holly and her lies, etc). The first part felt very much like the whole "mother loses mind and murders babies" scenario, while the back half felt like "if she didn't do it, who did?" I kind of wish writers would branch out from the "crazy exhausted mom" theme. It's old. It doesn't sit well with me. Postpartum depression is a real thing and needs to be taken seriously...BUT that's not what we're here to discuss. I felt like the story was decent but too much was packed into it and I found myself confused at times. I didn't connect to the characters like I probably should have. There was a lot left unresolved for me (see above) and the resolution we did get was just kind of.... "meh." If you read thrillers non-stop like I do, I would suggest giving this one a pass. If you don't, by all means give this book a shot. Like I said earlier, I was definitely not in the majority opinion with this one. |

I enjoyed this book. Was very keen to find out what really happened. You feel really sorry for the characters even though it could have been one of them. |

Unlike any book I've read recently. Truly a mystery that left me guessing. For me it got a little murky at the end, which prevented me from giving it a five star rating. The two characters (journalists) that drive this story, Jon and Kelly are both likable in their quest to look into a murder conviction. |

Absolutely gripping thriller. This book drew me in quickly and kept me hooked all the way to the end. Thanks to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for my digital copy. |
This psychological thriller was a good read. At times it’s slow but it keeps you reading. A few good twists and turns throughout, the characters were interesting and the story was intriguing Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read this |
Engaging mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. Told from the point of view of several characters but this did not distract from the story. Definitely a must-read for those who like who dunnits. |

Do yourself a favour and read this book! Melissa Slade is in prison serving a sentence for the murder of one of her twin daughters. Ellie and Amber both are found dead within weeks of each other with similar circumstances. Is it a case of Sids or did she kill the babies? The jury found Melissa guilty of the second death only. Declaring the first a case of Sids but journalists Jonathon and Kelly now are given the job of covering the appeal for Melissa's freedom. They start to question everything about both babies and question if Melissa has spent years serving a sentence for a crime she didn't commit? |
Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own Innocent or guilty? It’s a rollercoaster of a book. You’re constantly pointing fingers at everyone. I enjoyed reading from the three perspectives. A good read if youre looking for something to keep you on the edge of your seat |
Very good book lots of twists and turns and definitely a page turner! The cover is perfect! Highly recommend! |
The Guilty Mother was one of the best books I have read this year! I was immediately pulled into the story and struggled to put the book down. Well written, fast paced, and unpredictable. I gasped several times towards the end of the novel. |
Another fantastic, twisted and scarily plausible read. Highly recommended for psychological thriller fans. |
