*5 Stars* Copy kindly received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Really interesting and good read. Shows how some families can have many secrets and lies. Was surprised by the ending. |
The Guilty Mother by Diane Jeffrey captured my attention from the first page and would not let go! The characters were all well-developed and I was able to empathize with them. I couldn’t decide whether Melissa was truly guilty of the murders of her baby girls or not, and each time I thought I had the storyline figured out, Jeffrey threw an unexpected twist my way. I am not giving The Guilty Mother a five star review because I would have really liked to see more of a resolution to the side story of Kelly’s sister, but all in all, this was a solid 4 star read for me. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of The Guilty Mother! |
This is a thrilling edge of your seat read. You may think you have read books similar to this but this is not your typical children being murdered or missing type of book. Melissa gives birth to twins. One dies and then the other and then...she is put into prison for their deaths. Readers will ask yourselves did she kill one baby? Both babies? Or neither one of them? This story is one that will have you questioning it all as well as the characters. Don't miss out on this great read. |
I actually thought I had this sussed from about halfway through the book, but I was totally wrong.... in more ways than one!! I love books where the chapters are dedicated to a character and tells their part of the story... I find it so much easier to follow and this book just flowed so well as it told the main characters stories. It’s so well written that one minute I was thinking Melissa was guilty, then I thought she wasn’t.... then I’d think she was! It made me even more indecisive than I normally am! Great book... loved it.... especially the Epilogue!! What a way to finish a book! |
This book was entertaining At times and Dragonette times. You’re gonna have to read it to figure out if she did it or not. |
I received a free e-copy of The Guilty Mother: Who Would you Believe by Diane Jeffrey from NetGalley for my honest review. A twisted, thrilling read that kept me guessing until the very end! Melissa, is sent to prison for the murder of her twin baby girls in 2013. But the question is, did she really do it? Fast forward to 2018 and Journalist Jonathan Hunt. Jonathan covered Melissa’s case back in 2013. Now he is back on the same story because Melissa is granted an appeal. Maybe this time he can find out the truth behind the story. |
The Guilty Mother by Diane Jeffery Pub Date August 2, 2019 #harpercollins #netgalley So I started this book in August but I ran into a problem with my kindle and couldn't finish it until I got it fixed. The Guilty Mother is a Noir Fiction, Legal Thriller. Jon & Kelly are journalists investigating a case that was back in the public's eye. Melissa was convicted of killing her twin babies and is serving life in prison. Melissa's first husband has gotten the right people to look at the case again to prove that there's a Miscarriage Of Justice in her case. The story follows Jon & Kelly's investigation and entries from Melissa diary. This was a gripping page-turner and I loved the characters. And the shocking twist at the end was jaw-dropping. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you #netgalley for the free book in exchange for an honest review. Will be looking forward to reading He Will Find You by Diane Jeffery |

Thank you to NetGalley ,the publisher and the author for the chance to read and review this amazing 5 star read for an honest review ! |
The story is told by different POV's and time jumps. Rich in detail, the reader learns about it by peeling of layer after layer. It's cleverly handled and an enjoyable read. |
Melissa is in.prison for murdering one of her twin daughters. The other one had died from cot death. Everyone that knows and loves Melissa know she's innocent. She wouldn't have ever hurt her baby. At her conviction everyone was certain she was guilty. She had also been a police officer, so life in prison was a constant looking over her shoulder. Bad cops and baby killers are the lowest of the low and fellow prisoners were always trying to make you pay. Due to the writings of journalists Jon and Kelly, and some new found evidence, Melissa is headed for a retrial or perhaps freedom. During the course of gathering information Jon and Kelly discover things about this case that leVe them wondering, who really killed this child? Well written, great characters! |

Do you believe her or not? This sets the tone for this has she?/hasn’t she?, could she?, couldn’t she? book as your emotions, thoughts and ‘reckoning’ go left, right, back, forth and up and down An extremely clever ‘keeps you on your toes’ psychological thriller where nothing is ‘cut and dried’ and even less is as you think you believe! Melissa is either the biggest psychopathic child killer ever or the victim of something much more sinister And now its her appeal, will the people who count believe her?, or will they be as baffled as we, the readers, are The phrase ‘on the edge of your seat’ was made for this book, once started you wont want to finish until you know the outcome! Tense and unpredictable, it is a story full to the brim of drama, great characters, clever plot and sub and sub sub plots as this author does so well....I will leave her fate in your hands....but remember her life and future depends on her appeal...... 10/10 5 Stars |
This book was rather chilling in places and I couldn't put it down. I would definitely recommend it. I'm off to check Amazon for other books by this author. |
The Guilty Mother ..who would you believe? Melissa is an ex cop. She is the mother of twin girls & an older son named Callum. Is she guilty as charged? One is said to have died of SIDS. The other she is on trial for. The story is written in a way to deceive the reader and have you guessing as to who may have killed both infants. Was it truly cot death as they thought with the first twin? There are several points of views from reporters & ex husbands to an au pair and friends which were important in Melissa’s story. This was a twisty emotional read and the last chapter or so blew me away. I was like what did I just read. This family is definitely dysfunctional . This is the first book that I have read by Dianne Jeffrey & I look forward to reading more of her books. She is a great storyteller and has compassion towards families in her writing style. This was a good psychological thriller which had me wondering who did it. Thank you to NetGalley, the author & HQ Digital for an ARC in exchange for my honest review. |

Wow, while normally the topic would’ve turned me away, this one absolutely gripped me. Was absolutely riveting and had me questioning everything. Well written, chilling, thrilling, and shocking as heck! Highly, highly recommend! Will make sure I buzz it up! |
A scorching read which left as many questions still as answers. I couldn’t put it down but did feel I wanted to ask the shoe questions on the plot. Who was telling the truth? A great read though. Highly recommended. |
Imagine having newborn twin daughters. Imagine one dies of cot death in the night. Now imagine, three weeks later, and your other twin daughter dies, supposedly, of cot death. What are the chances of tragedy striking the same family twice? This seems all too coincidental to the authorities and Melissa Slade is sent to prison for life in the murder of baby Ella. Melissa's first husband doesn't believe she would ever do such a thing and fights vigorously for her release. Meanwhile, her new husband and father to the girls, believes fully that his wife carried out the heinous act. John and Kelly, local reporters, are requested to look into Melissa's case as, they believe, a miscarriage of justice has taken place when it's discovered that parts of the original toxicology report were missing. The information in that report likely would have exonerated Melissa of her charges. We follow along as Jon and Kelly investigate. This was a slow burn but an interesting one. The entire time I was reading this I kept wavering back and forth as to Melissa's guilt or innocence. Then when a twist is revealed in the last 1/4 I thought: I KNEW IT! Fancy me the little detective but I was wrong. The truth is only revealed to you in those final pages and wow, just wow. 4 stars! Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review. |
I don’t usually like books where parents are being blamed for murdering their children but something about this book called to me. I liked it but I didn’t love it because I just hate when little children are killed and they go into detail about it. Thanks NetGalley. |
