I love Carrie Ann Ryan’s writing but either this book wasn’t for me or I came to it at a time when I had read a lot of this sort of stuff and wasn’t receptive to this book as a result. There is nothing wrong with it. I honestly think it’s me, and I may revisit this book when I’ve read in a few other genres for a while.

Our world, today: Lyric believes to be a normal girl, and why wouldn’t she. Rhodes and Rosamond are brother and sister and decide to invite Lyric, her ex and her best friend to a hiking trip. Something sinister happens, Lyric thinks she is crazy. Other things happen and she is suddenly transported in a parallel universe in which she discovers to be someone important to the brothers and for the world’s safety.

Not a lot to say because, man, this was an adventure. Beautifully written, characters that actually behave the way I would, and the relationships are put at risk. Braelynn is a beautiful supporting character, one of my favorites of all time, and I think her story was the most interesting of all. Rhodes is everyone’s dream coming true, the boy I would love to have beside me. The thing that I loved the most was not the relationship between Rhodes and Lyric but the friendship, amazing and oh so real friendship, between Lyric and Braelynn.

The only critic I have to move is about the finale, it was a bit fast. I could understand everything, I just wished it was a little bit longer, and some things more detailed.

I really enjoyed this book, and I'm excited to know there are more! The writing was good, and the story got me interested right from the beginning. It moves well and is easy to read and I wanted to know what would happen next. The characters were awesome! This was the first book by Carrie Anne Ryan I have read but it won't be the last!

I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

From Breath and Ruin begins with your normal high school graduate, Lyric, trying to map her future and feeling pressured by her parents. But of course, Lyric’s world view is about to be blown to smithereens. In a realm she didn’t know existed she wants to help rescue her new friend and maybe much more.

I enjoyed this book ! More to the point I was yelling at the book it’s self because I was so invested in the plot. It wasn’t something I was truly interested in due to the fact that I hadn’t heard much about it, but I enjoyed the romance the friendships, the trials, and the triumphs. I’m only complaint is that there isn’t more in this series!
