It begins when a journalist, following an anonymous tip, find human remains in the basement of an apartment building.

FBI Agent Zoe Spencer uses her ability to recreate faces of murder victims through sculpture. Who she finds in this instance is a teenage girl who disappeared years ago.

Homicide Detective William Vaughn is investigating a series of murders ... all young women, and all resemble the victim found earlier.

So maybe this is not a cold case .... maybe someone is continuing the cycle.

Is it more than a coincidence that the first victim's sister and her daughter both disappear?

Spencer and Vaughn must work together to find the killer, delving through decades of lies and secrets.

Well-written by one of my favorite authors, the suspense is palpable and the characters are finely drawn. Spencer and Vaughn are on again - off again lovers and they pick up where the left off when they last worked together. There is spice and sizzle, but I really enjoyed how they share their professional, as well as personal lives.

Many thanks to the author / Montlake Romance / Netgalley for the digital copy of this addition to the author's Criminal Profiler series. Read and reviewed voluntarily, the opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I See You is the second book in the Criminal Profiler series and it is a standalone. In this book, Zoe Spencer was a woman whose life had not followed her intended path but was not one that she would regret, career wise. Even after two years, she still enjoyed her job as an FBI criminal profiler and was truly skilled in the art of forensic sketches. It was her skill in this area that led her to catch cases that were suited for her skill set. Personally though, Zoe was a bit of a mess. After the death of her husband, who was entirely too young to die, she had continued to thrive in her career but no one would say she was thriving in her personal life. She kept her distance from any personal relationships and the ones that she did enter into, she made sure that there was an emotional disconnect. She may have been a functioning agent but in many ways she had yet to leave her past behind her.

When Zoe became involved in a high-profile missing teen’s cold case, she hadn’t planned on seeing William Vaughn again but she couldn’t say that she was displeased by that turn of events. In the past Zoe and Vaughn had an intimate relationship that had always suited her needs but this time around Vaughn was looking for just a bit more from her and that was not something she was interested in giving. Despite her need to put distance between them they had a case to solve and what was thought to be a cold case was indeed a very hot one as bodies start piling up that seem to share remarkable similarities. As Zoe and Vaughn spent time running down clues and trying to solve a current day mystery, the emotional distance between them would not be the only challenge they faced.

There was much packed into I See You that made it a most enjoyable read. The case may have started out with the identification of bones that were found but it quickly became more with a current day death and whodunit type mystery surrounding it. There were also other deaths occurring that seemed to have no connection but as the story went on it becomes clear that there is more there than meets the eye. I also liked what was occurring with both Zoe and Vaughn. They had each reached a crossroads in their life and throughout this story I was privy to what they wanted and what was holding them back. This was all taking place against a backdrop of trying to solve the case before the media goes public with what was occurring with the cold case. I See You was a thrill ride that had many great elements woven together to deliver a remarkable story!

FBI criminal profiler Zoe Spencer and Detective William Vaughan have to work together to catch a serial killer who has been abducting and murdering young women for almost 20 years. As they spend more and more time together their attraction to each other grows.
I quite enjoyed this book but I think Mary Burton has written better. I thought it was obvious who the killer was quite early on so for me the story lacked suspense. Not one of her best

4.5 stars
My first book by the author and what a great choice to start with.
I love romance combined with suspense and this story has it all. From the first chapter I couldn’t stop reading and all the fast paced moments mixed with so many twists and turns that some I must admit were very unexpected, everything comes together for a great reading.
This book just have the perfect mix of suspense with a dash of romance and I loved it.

This is a really good mystery. I have always enjoyed the books by Mary Burton and this one was no exception. The story starts with Zoe trying to identify some old remains. I thought the book was going to be all about that, but man was I wrong! It had a lot of twist and turns. I hope we see more of Zoe and Vaughan.

I See You by Mary Burton is her newest addition to her romantic suspense series about FBI profilers.
Zoe reconstructs victims by using their skulls. She follows the clues to a town where her (sometimes) love is. Zoe and Vaughan work together to stop a murderer.
Mary Burton writes suspenseful books. There may be a little romance, but the suspense is what keeps you coming back. I've not read a book of hers that I didn't totally get drawn into. And this one is no different. A lot of research goes into her writing and it shows.

This book is part of the Criminal Profiler series. Each book in the series is a stand alone, but the characters do make appearances in the other books.

This book follows Special Agent Zoe Spencer as she brings a face to skeletal remains. One of them turns out to be a teenage female victim in a cold case. She travels to the girl's hometown and works with homicide detective William Vaughan to try and solve this case. As they investigate, its seems as if this case could be a little warmer than first thought.

I love reading this author's books. The characters' backgrounds and feelings are always so detailed and descriptive, you feel as if you know them and have known them forever. You get so involved that you keep reading so you can learn more about them as well as find out the mystery.

This book felt a little different to me. I loved the characters, but it didn't feel like her other books. The romance almost felt forced a little bit. I didn't really feel their emotions like I normally do with her other books. With that said, the book was still an enjoyable read and a good mystery. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I See You is Mary Burton’s latest romantic suspense novel. The suspense is Burton at her best with twists, turns and very well written suspects. I was disappointed in the romantic portion of this story. I had a difficult time connecting with Zoe Spencer, the main female character, and while I liked William Vaughn better, their romance seemed lukewarm at best. There was a lot going on in this book and Burton shines in her portrayal of the “bad guys”…it is scary how well she is able to convey their evilness. Even though I was disappointed in the romance part, the overall story was compelling and Mary Burton once again has a winning story for her readers.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of I See You by Mary Burton that I read and reviewed.
I See You is the second book in the Criminal Profiler series by Mary Burton and this book was pretty good. I can honestly say that it was very shocking with how Burton ended it and I really enjoyed that because I did not see that coming at all and that is what made the book.
I was not feeling the matchup between Vaughan and Zoe as I much as I would have liked. I felt it was kind of forced and not as natural as other pairings that Burton is known for. Maybe it was just me but I just was not feeling them as a couple at all.
Overall, the story was good and the mystery was what makes it worth reading. It will keep the reader guessing and throw some surprises at you that will keep the pages turning.
I See You gets four out of five stars from me.

I See You was an incredible read with an exciting plot that focuses on the suspense which is something this author does well.

FBI special agent Zoe Spencer helps give skeletal remains their identities back by recreating their faces through sculpture. After working on the skeletal remains of a murder victim, Zoe discovers the young woman was the subject of a high profile missing persons case nearly twenty years ago. When the case leads Zoe to Alexandria, Zoe partners with homicide detective William Vaughan, her on-again, off-again lover. But as the two work the case, they discover someone is out there still hunting women and time is running out to catch the killer before they strike again.

The case surrounding the murder victim was incredibly interesting and doesn’t even scratch the surface of what Zoe and Vaughn work on in this book. While the identity of the skeletal remains provides a good jumping off point, Zoe and Vaughn are quickly drawn down another path. Between a kidnapping, a potential serial killer, and more suspects than they can keep up with, this book is fast paced and packed with suspense. There were a few surprises along the way that only enhanced the story and I enjoyed the direction the author took things. The ending was a bit unexpected, but I thought it was a good choice that perfectly fit the story.

Zoe and Vaughn work really well together and I think their romantic relationship only enhances that. They both trust each other to do their job and have no doubts about the other’s skills. I liked that while the pair would go off and do their own thing, the majority of the case was them working together. As to their personal relationship, initially you’re given the impression that Vaughn is more involved than Zoe, but it quickly becomes clear that’s not the case. Zoe is more private about her feelings than Vaughn is and I was happy to see her open up more as the book went on.

I See You was a fantastic continuation of the Criminal Profiler series and I highly recommend this author if you’re looking for some great romantic suspense.

This book checks all my boxes. I could not put it down. The characters drew me in and I have a major book hangover.

Mary Burton never fails to have me on the edge of my seat as I read her stories and try to solve all of the mysteries. But this book felt so much more suspenseful than usual, and I loved it. I was left constantly guessing about what was going on and what had happened in the past, and even near the end I was on edge just waiting to see if my suspicions were correct.

Zoe and Vaughn were great lead characters and really helped move this story along. I liked getting to see how they developed and came together as the book progressed and it was just another thing for me to look forward to as I read. They made a great team and an amazing couple.

Overall, I definitely recommend this book and pretty much anything this author writes. This book can be read as a standalone if you want to jump right into this series with this story.

Nikki McDonald, a reporter, gets a tip to look for a gray trunk in a storage locker. When she opens the trunk she discovers a human skeleton. Another body is found in a dumpster. This novel will lead you through the investigation with twists and turns. It keeps you guessing with a surprise ending to conclude the case.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this brilliant book

a text message, burnt skeletal remains and our very own favourite fbi agent who can put a face onto those remains and help identify victims....

a brilliant storyline that keeps you gripped to find out who did what to whom...plenty of red herrings and more victims of murder before the murderer is found...

but this story is about a family who try to overcome a missing person in their family who have moved away from the area but are now back and violence seems to follow them

another brilliant story by mary burton...they just get better and better

I am so glad this book was approved on my day off, because I spent the entire day reading it! I could not put it down! Like the investigators in the book I could tell that the "victim's stories weren't really lining up, but try as I did I could not figure out who had done it and what had happened. I love when that happens in a book because I can usually figure out who the bad guy is. This book had so many twists and turns that it kept my attention until the very last page. I also loved that this book was longer! I am a recent new fan of Mary Burton and this might be my favorite book I have read of hers so far!

I See You was a multi-layered read full of twists and turns, mystery, suspense, secrets and lies, and a sort of slow-burn romance between the two main characters, Vaughan and Spencer. The plot and character development continued throughout the story at a steady pace, continually drawing you in, as well as sinking you deeper into the web of secrets and lies Vaughan and Spencer had to unravel surrounding the family members involved in their case. All was definitely not as it seemed.

I enjoyed Vaughan’s character from the start, but I found Zoe Spencer’s character a bit harder for me to warm up to. Yet, the deeper I got into the read I began to like her character more. As for the storyline, it had several layers to unravel, many characters to keep straight and I have to admit a time or two I was a tad confused but by the reveal and wrap up I found I enjoyed the overall story. I am a big fan of Burton’s books and though I did enjoy this one, it did not leave me with the ‘oh wow!’ feeling I usually have when finishing one of her stories but this will definitely not deter me from reading more.

Fans of the romantic suspense/law enforcement novel will enjoy meeting FBI SA Zoe Spencer and homicide detective William Vaughn, who team up here to find the killer of a the woman whose bones have recently been found- a villain who is still out there. Zoe uses her skills to recreate the features of the dead when no other option is available. Know and accept that this isn't CSI and that there are, to put it mildly, some exceptions from what real law enforcement might do and you'll enjoy this more. Zoe's an interesting character and her relationship with Vaughn moves from casual to more serious. No spoilers! Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A quick and entertaining read.

This novel would qualify as an average read in the spectrum of the many thrillers available for an amateur of the genre.
It started strong with the premise of a tense and fast-paced mystery mixed with a slight dose of romance.
Unfortunately, it was a bit of a letdown for me, especially due to the ending.
In terms of characters, I quite enjoyed the two main protagonists that are FBI Special Agent Zoe Spencer and Homicide Detective William Vaughan. They were neither too dull nor obnoxious. I found their chemistry gullible and the pair was efficient enough to follow easily.
Perhaps there was a tad too many secondary characters that rendered the whole a bit confusing at times. I think that aspect was also in the way of characters’ development as we never went too deep with the suspects’ psychological reasoning.
Set in a contemporary setting, I felt that the tension was overall well managed. We have a good mix between secrets, lies, manipulations, and a couple of good plot twists. However I must say that the last 30 pages or so were lacking coherence and didn’t quite measure up to the suspense-building.
The writing style is quite basic and was missing that ‘wow’ factor for me. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the detail-oriented descriptions of some scenes.
This is definitely a novel destined for a mature audience as it contains multiple explicit sex scenes (unprotected intercourses!) as well as graphic violent scenes. Trigger warning for violence, murder and self-harm.
The plot was enjoyable enough to engage the reader from beginning to end. The plot twists were there but I wasn’t gagging. I was committed as to discover the final word on the events occurring.
I, unfortunately, felt that the ending was rushed and wasn’t quite making sense. The reveals were not satisfactory and the explanations behind the culprits’ acts were deceiving and seemed far-fetched. The motivations behind the murders didn’t add up and fell flat. Everything felt as if the author was overwhelmed by the many possibilities as how to unfold this thriller.
I was able to guess a part of the mystery (it doesn’t happen that often) as it was a bit too predictable for my liking.
Overall, it was an easy and quick read but I wasn’t blown away by its content. The ending was highly disappointing and ruined the rest of my reading experience.
The potential of this novel was high but unfortunately, in the end, it does not stand out from the crowd.
