I thoroughly enjoyed this latest Mary Burton mystery, with a dash of romance thrown in. Romantic suspense is my favorite genre, and although I think Burton leans more heavily on the mystery, I enjoy her books. This book features Zoe Spencer, a special FBI agent who uses skeletal remains to recreate in sculpture, the faces of victims who need to be identified. Her role reminded me of the LSU Faces Laboratory, which I've always found fascinating. When homicide detective William Vaughan, with whom Zoe is casually involved, joins forces with her on what is believed to be a cold case, the investigation suddenly spirals into so much more. They soon realize that they need to stop a killer before he strikes again. I really liked Zoe and William, and the way they worked and interacted together. The mystery was very interesting, but the lead characters are what really made the book for me. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy. |

This was a classic Mary Burton suspense novel, definitely a page turner. I enjoyed the characters Zoe and Vaughn. I always enjoy Mary Burton's writing, lots of suspense, and a little bit of spice thrown in. I can’t wait for the next book to come out! |
Definitely a page turner. Talk about some dysfunctional people in this story. I enjoyed the character Zoe and her facial reconstruction work. I always enjoy Mary Burton's writing, lots of suspense, and a little bit of spicy romance thrown in. I look forward to the next book, it seems to me that there is something deeper going on with Skyler, and I would like to find out what it is, so I hope she carries over to another book. If not, I felt I was left hanging on her. |
I See You by Mary Burton a four-star read that you will want to profile. This is the second novel in the Criminal profiler series, but they can be read as stand-alone as I haven’t read the first one yet, but I will be going back and getting hold of it. The suspense is sublime, it will keep you on your toes and guessing all the way through. There are so many twists that you don’t see the turns in the road coming and what turns they are. Throw in some slow burn romance and you have a winner. |
Zoe Spencer, an FBI special agent, works on a skull, that a local reporter found inside a trunk in a storage shed. Zoe can recreate their face just from the remains. The remains lead her to a cold case of a missing woman from over a decade ago. As she teams up with local homicide detective William Vaughan, who also happens to be her on and off again lover. When they tell the family of the missing woman of finding her, some very disturbing things start happening to that family. Is the same person who took their loved one from before? Mary Burton will always have you on your toes in her stories, and when you think you have it figured out, she throws you a curve ball. |
Loved the character of Zoe Spencer who’s a profiler and recreates faces of unidentifiable murder victims using their skeletal remains. I had no problems with the pace and the balance of romance and suspense. Overall, it was a good Mary Burton novel that will keep you guessing till the end. |

Another great suspense book by Mary Burton. What starts out as looking into a cold case murder quickly becomes part of a current day string of murders. A fast paced and multi layered book will keep you guessing to the end. A final curve at the end which confirmed who I thought was the killer. I love the character of FBI Special agent Zoe Spencer who uses skeletal remains to recreate the victim’s faces. It has a very Bones (the tv show) feel to it. And who doesn’t love a badass female main character? A great read all around. P.S. I LOVE the cover of the book! |

When down on her luck reporter Nikki McDonald receives a hot tip nothing will stand in her way, but what she found left her shell shocked, charred human remains. The skull although charred and damaged was sent to FBI special agent Zoe Spencer to do the facial reconstruction. When finished her boss Ramsey recognizes the face as belonging to Marsha Prince who disappeared nearly twenty years ago. Heading to Alexandria Zoe teams up with the detective in charge William Vaughn who already has his plate full with the murder of a young prostitute found stabbed to death in a hotel room? Mounting tension arises when the victim’s sister and daughter disappear and the husband is found semi-conscious stabbed inside the family home. Will the killer of a nearly twenty year old murder go unpunished, will they find Hadley and her daughter Skyler in time only adds to the mounting tension and suspense of the book. Well written tension filled book full of twists and turns that will keep the reader engaged. Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for the opportunity to review this book. |
4- Stars "The face is the mirror of the mind, and the eyes, without speaking, confess the secrets of the heart." -Saint Jerome This story was a little bit harder for me to get into, I had a hard time connecting with Agent Spencer. She seemed too closed off for my liking, but once I started getting into the story I gradually began to warm up to her and became intrigued with the mystery and the rest of the characters. The romance is slow-burn between FBI Agent Zoe Spencer and Homicide Detective William Vaughan. Granted, the protagonists have a history together, but what is currently a "friends with benefits" relationship evolves to something more the longer they work this case and by the end of the story. The mystery was good, but I found I was more interested in "why" the characters were acting the way they were rather than who was responsible for the crime. There were so many skeletons in the closet in this seemingly "perfect" family, that it was easy to see why there could be so many suspects. I enjoyed reading this story. It was well written, the characters were smart, and the story was engaging. |
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for a copy of this book. I've not read Mary Burton in a while and, whilst this started off slow, it built up to a solid romantic suspense, which I enjoyed. |
Mary Burton writing style and story lines can be dark at moments but the romance is what keeps the story from taking over the darker side of life. The characters are older, flawed but want to find out the truth. The story has readers wondering about Nature vs Nurture that creates killers. As well as a parents love for their child. I see you just uses enough Profiler and psychology to keep readers interested without boring them. The story move quickly, the romance has been going on for a while so while they hop into bed it isn't unexpected, story flows keeps a good pace. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Montlake for the advance copy of Mary Burton I See You |
I have always loved Mary Burton's books they have lots of suspense with a bit of romance .This book although was a good book it was a bit slow for me. It wasn't a quick page turner. I did enjoy reading it had lots of different stories going on that kept you interested. Decent read not my favorite of Mary Burton's but really I don't think this author can write a bad book. |

Zoe Spencer, an FBI criminal profiler is able to recreate the faces of unidentified murder victims. As the face she is working on is identified as a missing girl from a decades old cold case, Zoe is determined to find the killer. The case has her working again with detective William Vaughn, who is also her former lover. When the murders start again with “look a-likes”, Zoe and Vaughn are pressed to find the killer. A good romantic suspense that Mary Burton is known to write. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher Montlake Romance for an early copy of this book. I voluntarily read this book and the comments are my own. |
Mary Burton is an author I don’t even bother reading the description before buying! And she has not disappointed me yet. FBI special agent Zoe Spencer and Detective William Vaughn, come together to work a case that happened awhile back. With a burned skeleton head, Zoe recreates the face of a young lady who disappeared when she was 19. Both agents go to the sisters house and share the news. From the start of this book to the end, there is no stopping the twists and turns that come up in finding the killer(s). As new information comes out, a twisted family history comes to light. And the agents have to wonder, who is telling the truth. Absolutely loved this book!! |
If you haven't read this series before, you can jump in here without feeling lost. You may want to go back and get some more depth on the characters, but you will enjoy this book either way :) Well written, suspenseful, with twists and turns that keep you turning the pages, you won't get bored. |

This was an edge of your seat suspense novel, it grabbed me from the first page and never let go. The author led you down so many paths I couldn’t figure out who did it. Just when I thought I had it figured out the author switched directions. Thank you to net galley for a copy of this book. |
Another well-written, solid mystery/romance by Mary Burton. Hooked from the beginning. Definitely recommend this fast- paced book. This is a great series (I loved that last one Hide and Seek) and this latest installment did not fail to deliver. Looking forward to the next one. Thank you #netgalley and #montalkeromance for the eARC. |
