I expected this to be a psychological thriller, but it was more about criminal activities and human trafficking. The characters were pretty much unlikable, and the way the writing went between past and present didn't work. My brain couldn't follow it easily. The book was very repetitive. I felt no suspense, no sense of being thrilled at any point during the read and, on reflection, I am unsure why I bothered to finish it. |

This book pulled me in from the description, and it didn’t disappoint. Well written and kept me engrossed through out. Looking forward to more from this author. |
I want to start off by thanking the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. This was a very well written book by a new author for me. The book had a very good storyline with a twist at the end. I enjoyed reading this and didn’t wanna put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone. |

So, through no fault of the book, I was kinda disappointed. The blurb on the book made it sound like a psychological thriller where a woman gets into a car accident, and her car goes off the road. Once regaining consciousness she looks into the backseat to make sure her son is okay. Not only is her son okay, but there is also another boy in the seat next to him. That totally got my attention. Unfortunately, that’s not really what the book was about. While the actual story line was action based and kept my attention, it was hard to get into it. Thanks NetGalley for a free digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. |

This book was so good. I had no idea what was going to happen and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat! The way the author interwove the different storylines kept it fresh and interesting, it was definitely hard to put down. |
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you NetGalley.. This was my first book by this author. This book was full of insane twists. I honestly didn't know what was going to happen next. Great read. |
#TheForgottenChild #NetGalley Not too engaging. Holly has tried her best to forget the traumatic events of her past, turning her back on her crime boss father and making a new life for herself and her son away from the notorious Seaview Estate. But when she’s involved in a car accident and regains consciousness to find a strange child on the backseat, she’s drawn back into everything she’s been trying to escape from. Who is the child and where did he come from? from. Read this book to know more. Characters were ok but i didn't feel connected to them. Narration is simple and ok. Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital for giving me an advance copy of this book. |
Thank you so much @NetGalley and #hqdigital for giving me this Advance Reader Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. (Release Date | 27 September 2019) SYNOPSIS | Holly Kendal is driving her son home late at night when in her rearview mirror she see's a car driving recklessly behind her which causes her to swerve and crash her vehicle down an embankment. When she regains consciousness there is an extra child in her car and she has no idea who he is, or how he ended up sitting in the back of the car with her son. MY THOUGHTS | The first chapter sucked me in as I was intrigued by the whole car crash extra child concept, but then sadly it went downhill for me. I did not connect with the drug style mafia characters or family rivalry storylines. I needed a frequent reminder as to who each character was, which family they belonged to and why I was supposed to care about them. This story also contained one of my least favourite things in thrillers where the evil character does a long monologue explaining how they are evil and why they are seeking vengeance... this one just wasn't for me. |
I was disappointed with this book as I expected more but I found it not great been honest with you.... way to predictable for me .... |
I am sorry to say that at best I found this read mediocre and at worst a continuous circle of a much smaller story. I loved the front cover but this is very deceptive. Instead of a family suffering the cruel act of a child disappearing or being snatched, whilst there is a mystery over a child who appears out of nowhere in a car that has crashed, this book is all about gang warfare on a sink estate. I found the plot rather repetitive and tedious and it just seemed to take me ages to finish the book, which as an avid reader is unusual as I usually storm through whatever I am reading. The beginning is much better than the rest of the book because it is very strange to be run off the road and acquire a second child. That premise kept me reading. I did like Holly who had tried so hard to escape the drug dealing and girl trafficking life she grew up in with her father, brother and other families on the estate, but all the various comings and goings of the different gang leaders was confusing and frankly not very interesting. I didn't dislike the book so much that I wouldn't try another book by the same author again, but this particular one disappointed and just didn't wow me or make me care enough. |
I went into this book expecting one thing but got another. I was not prepared for the amount of action there was in this book. I went in expecting thriller and got a crime novel. Which is fine, but it was a really slow burn and the grammatical errors didn't help my dwindling love for this book. |
This is not a genre I would normally choose and I have to say that this book didn't change my opinion. I couldn't get into it at all, I didn't like the whole gang storyline and thought it gave an unfair stereotypical view of life on a British council estate. I wouldn't recommend this book, sorry. |
DNF. I really had hopes for this book. It's the first I've read from this author. The beginning was pretty good but towards the middle I was lost. I may read this again in the future but for right now, it just didn't do it for me. Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. |

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview The Forgotten Child by DE White. This book hooked me right away and has a very strong plot and solid characters. I was surprised and had to go back and read previous pages because the plot did twist and turn and I didn't see it coming. good book - 3 stars. |

Ugh. This unfortunately did nothing for me. From the goodreads synopsis, which I realize now is what I read, and which differs GREATLY from the one here in Netgalley, I was expecting more of a psychological thriller along the lines of - why does she not remember this child? Who is he to her? Is she going crazy? Is someone trying to make her think she is? “Lights blinded her in an eerie white flash. She yanked the wheel as she felt the impact from the car behind her. There was a sharp pain, and then a bang in front of her, and after that nothing but darkness. Holly Kendal is trying to put her painful past and broken marriage behind her and focus on her beloved son, Milo. But while driving him home on a dark February night, Holly loses control on the rain-slicked tarmac, and her car spirals off the road. When Holly regains consciousness, everything is silent and in the dark, she can’t see Milo. Desperately, she claws her way out of the car and forces the back door open. To her relief, Milo is where she left him, injured but breathing – but then she sees something that makes her heart stop. Milo isn't the only child in the car. Next to him is another little boy, unharmed but unconscious. And Holly has absolutely no idea who he is” I just didn’t care, and honestly I felt kind of tricked by the synopsis I had read - even though there’s nothing untrue per ce in it, it paints the picture of a very different kind of narrative. The “accident”, the child’s appearance and even who the child was, was resolved quite early, and the rest was more crime/family drama and wasn’t really interesting to me. I kept loosing track of who was who, and how they all related within the crime families. The actual story itself wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t a good fit for me - the synopsis immediately pulled me in, and I wish the book had continued with that. |
Unfortunately this is a book which I could not finish. I have to add that there is nothing wrong with it- I just wasn’t pulled in and found I lost interest. As a result- I haven’t posted public reviews because I do not think it is fair on the author. |
Great read. I really enjoyed this book and the suspense. I will be watching for more books from this author. Thank you for the opportunity to read this one. |

The Forgotten Child started off intensely but in the middle it really dragged only to be saved by the ending. Thank you Net Galley, HQ Digital and D.E. White for the chance to read this book. When Holly and Milo were forced off the road it was so scary and full of suspense. When the second child showed up I thought it was a ghost story but it turned out to be one of the many twists in this book. I liked Holly’s character as she was tough and spunky yet a loyal and loving mother. The other characters didn’t really hold any appeal for me. Perhaps more description might have drawn me to the, but I just didn’t like them. This story had many twists and I love that in a book. I found that it dwelled too long in the gangs and criminal world. We needed to know where everyone came from and what their place was but I found it took to long to get through that part. The ending was awesome and suspenseful. If the centre had been better this would be a great book. For me, it was ok with some good parts. |
This story started out amazing and spiraled downward from there. What started as a chilling mystery/thriller turned into a confusing crime drama focusing on a large cast of characters belonging to an organized crime family. Somewhere along the way, the focus of the story shifted and my interest waned very quickly. Organized crime is just not a topic that interests me in books and it was a very heavy theme throughout. Not my favorite. |
