Eleven years ago, Holly’s brother disappeared and his girlfriend was killed. Holly has tried her best to forget the traumatic events of her past, turning her back on her crime boss father and making a new life for herself and her son away from the notorious Seaview Estate. But when she’s involved in a car accident and regains consciousness to find a strange child on the backseat, she’s drawn back into everything she’s been trying to escape from. Who is the child and where did he come from? Already struggling to deal with her volatile ex-husband, Holly now finds herself haunted by long-buried secrets too. She has spent years trying to get away from the estate, but someone will stop at nothing to get her to return. As events that began eleven years ago come to a head, Holly is forced once again to fight for her life… and her son’s. What a gripping thriller this was! Not what it sounds like on the blurb really but still a really good thriller with action and suspense. Several twists and turns in this one as well to keep you wondering. Well written plot and story line that keep you gripped til the end. Well written characters that are well fleshed out. Looking forward to reading more from this author. Recommend reading. A different kind of thriller that is not necessarily what you'd expect from the synopsis. A woman trying to escape her past gets drawn back into her family circle by circumstance. We find out quickly that her family is Family with a capital F. DE White sets an original story inside an organized crime community and then turns the imagination loose. The title Forgotten Child could be the child found at the site of a car crash or could be our main character. The story line plays out with many clues that will mislead the reader into thinking you know what will happen next, only to find out you missed something a few pages back. Again, this is not a typical mystery/ thriller, but is definitely a good read. |
The Forgotten Child by D. E. White 2 ⭐⭐ 📘My Review📙 I found this story to be very boring and the characters unlikable. I could not connect with any of the characters. The story was more Organized crime not psychological thriller. If you like crime/ mob/ human trafficking type stories then this book is good for you. The blurt sounded really good but it is not what the book is really about. I found it to be quite misleading. This novel is REALLY about Holly and how she can’t lose her connection to organised crime. Not about Holly regaining consciousness after a car crash and finding a random child in her car. Even though this happens in first chapter of the book , and we find out who the child is pretty quick. Then the rest of the book is all about Holly and her connection to organized crime. Which is not something I have an interest in. Had they been more honest in the description of this book and the title of the book it would have gave readers more of an idea what they would have been reading and probably less bad reviews. The author also switched from past to present in such a way it was not easy to follow. There is also ALOT of characters to keep up with in the two crime families so get a notebook ready. It would have been more better if the anonymous child was more of a feature of the story like the blurb states. I wanted to read this book on the basis of the blurb. Sadly the two do not match up. This just is not my type of book. Thank you netgalley , the author , and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. #TheForgottenChild #NetGalley |
I loved the start of this book , an accident then a strange boy in the back of the car . I got a bit bored with the telling of her past life and the rough estate life she had but then we found out more about the boy and I was hooked again .Great book , I will be looking out for more from this author . |
I expected this to be a psychological thriller, but it was more about criminal activities and human trafficking. Holly and her son Milo were driving in a dark road when they wete made to go off road by a car hitting them. When she became conscious, she found another child in the backseat who had a DNA link to hers. But she had no idea as everyone in her family were dead. The story moved on... My first book by this author, I was excited with the initial parts of the story. They kept me enthralled and curious to know about the second child. But the book turned dark with human trafficking as it's concept which was not what I wanted to read at that moment. The characters were pretty much unlikable, and the writing staccato going awry between past and present. My brain couldn't follow it easily. Organized crime was not my cup of tea, which was not told to me in the blurb. Found it to be quite misleading. Overall it was an okay story. |

A slow starter I was on chapter three before things picked up to a faster pace it was well written and I would recommend to others. |
A slow burn of a thriller. It takes a chapter or two to really get going as backgrounds and circumstances are developed. There are lots of misleads and misdirection's but when the reveal came it was well worth the wait. The end of the epilogue makes me wonder if more books are in the offing, if so they will be on my pre-purchase list. |
# The Firgotton Child# Netgallery Quite a quick start book, driving along with her son in the heavy rain when a car behind is tailgating to a point she feels he's almost in the car. Suddenly the car behind Holly ran into her she didn't know what to think. If anything because of some texts she had been reviving of her ex husband she wouldn't put Anything hat he Boulder be behind it, even though he was out of the country at the time, she still didn't trust him. The car hit her agin, her son just shouted mum watch out a deer in front, Holly braked and was sliding over the road, she lost control, she went down a embankment eventually when she dies finally stop she can see her sons hand, she struggles to get out of the car to check him because he wasn't answering. When she saw him on the back seat unconciese but he was breathing. Then suddenly she saw another child on the other seat. She had no idea where this other child came from. Holly had tried to put the past behind her, yet someone was trying to bring her back to her past life, it's a intriguing book, with lots of twists and turns surprises coming out of nowhere. Whoever was behind putting the boy in her car was ademamt to. Drag Holly back into the past. A worthy read win unexpected turns definaly reccomend this |
Different from what I'm use to reading but the first few pages had me hooked and wanted to see what was about to happen. If you want crime, mobs and suspense this one is a must read! Definitely a page Turner. I wanted to add there are some spelling errors in this book. Like Holly the main character has come across as Holy. Just little errors but still kind of annoying. |

Excellent thriller. Kept me up late reading to find out what was actually happen! I love a good missing kid story and this one does not disappoint! |
A captivating story-line and a brilliant read! Daisy White has delighted me with this clever and gripping contemporary psychological thriller. I was not prepared for the exciting and intense roller-coaster read this book inflicted on me! Although I had been expecting this to be more of a psychological thriller than it was, I was not in the least disappointed in this superb action-packed story about a community and family embroiled in drug dealing and human trafficking. Single mum Holly Kendal is run off the road and regains consciousness to find a mysterious child in the backseat of her car along with with her son. Who left the forgotten child and why? The Forgotten Child was so full of drama and suspense that it had my heart racing and I was absorbed in the story from the start. Daisy White gave the reader a mixture of excellent characters, some of whom had appeal despite their flaws, though others were slightly less palatable and were meant to be scorned. Holly was strong, tough and edgy and I liked her enough to root for her throughout the story as the tangled and complicated connections in Holly's life were revealed and unravelled. This worked in retaining my interest and attention and I was never bored but instead, was lured ever deeper into this compulsive tale. The book was a commanding read and the author’s talent made this a wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated for the entertainment it was. The ending was something of a surprise to me as I did not anticipate the conclusion. Overall, I'd say that The Forgotten Child is a little gem and a book that I'm so pleased to have read! This was an ok book for me. While the summary sounded good that is not really what the book was about. I never connected with any of the characters, even Holly. Many thanks to HQ Digital and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion. |
Review for 'The Forgotten Child' by D. E. WHITE Available to read and review on NetGalley Well let me start with WOW!!! This was one of the best suspense/thriller books that I have rea din a very long time. It kept me constantly turning the pages and on the edge of my seat. The whole 'just one more chapter' definitely described me reading this. It was extremely well written and pulled me in from page one until I sadly fell out at the end. I loved the characters who were very strong and realistic. I loved the fact that it is set in the UK. Extremely well written I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers, suspense and a good book in general. It was filled with twists and turns to keep me guessing and I would have never guessed the ending. I would definitely read more from this talented author and its just a shame I can't give it more than the 5 stars on Goodreads as it definitely deserve more. Well done D. E white you have definitely made a new fan here. |
The description of this book sounded intriguing, with the main character Holly regaining consciousness after a car crash and finding a random child in her car. Whilst we find out quickly who the child is, and can guess why he was there, this novel is really about Holly and how she can’t lose her connection to organised crime. This is an intense book, with a good fast paced story line. Some of the characters are very cliched like Holly’s ex-husband, and her father but this does not make it a bad novel. I just found that this was not the novel that I thought I was going to read, and it spoiled it for me. Maybe if the novel had a different title, or the blurb was a bit more honest of the crime connection I would have enjoyed this more. |
The Forgotten Child had a great premise when you read it,but the description was a little deceiving. A bit slow, but still a decent read. |
The book started off really exciting and drew me in. The main character is flawed with a troubling past, which I typically am drawn to. I felt like the rest of the story didn’t really align with the description of the book, it threw me off but otherwise this was a good thriller. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley the advanced review copy. |

I am just not interested in organised crime. The storyline was not what was expected by the synopsis therefore was a big disappointment and just not for me at all. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it. |

Aside from its entertainment value, The Forgotten Child offers a double lesson to readers of any book: Pay scant attention to 1) the publishers's blurb and 2) what other readers/reviewers have to say about it. The teaser/synopsis posted at book sale sites (see above) for this book promises a story that few readers found, and many of them grumbled about it (see below). But in their disappointment, they trashed the book for not being what they expected -- and it's a good story, even if unexpected. The characters have been roughened by their harsh lives, and most of them surrendered to the "easy way" out, getting by on petty and not-so-petty crime.Even those who have gone legit find that the sins of their fathers (and brothers and cousins) continue to haunt their lives. The publisher's teaser touches only on the opening chapter, where single mother Holly is run off the road and regains consciousness to find that someone has placed a unknown-to-her child in the backseat with her son. Who left the forgotten child, and why? The rest of the story unravels the knotty connections in Holly's life, making nearly everyone she knows a suspect. Along the way, she learns whom she can and cannot trust, and what the strange boy has to do with her past. I liked it, and give it 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance readers copy. |
I've just finished reading The Forgotten Child, and let me start by saying I enjoyed the main character, Holly. She is strong and fierce, and the author develops her character very well. Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I think I went into it with a certain expectation for how the story would develop, and I was disappointed because the story actually centers around a couple of crime families, which is not a topic that interests me. There are a lot of family members to keep sorted, and there are family histories and rivalries to deal with. The ending left me feeling dissatisfied. I do hope the right readers find this book and enjoy it. Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book and exchange for my honest review. |
Although not what the blurb advertised, this mystery is interesting. There are several characters to keep track of. Most of the book is mob related. The end came as a bit of a surprise. It's a decent read, but it would have been better if the anonymous child was more of a feature of the story. |
