It's the first time I read anything written by this author and I am sure it won't be the last one, because this book was just amazing.
Rachel has a good life - she has a loving boyfriend and two great children. She also has a secret - nine years ago her older daughter, Holly, was kidnapped and never found.
But now Rachel thinks that the oldest daughter of the new family who just moved in is her missing daughter. And she will do everything to find out the truth.
This book is just amazing. I just couldn't put it down. The writing is so good, characters so interesting, and the story has such a plot twist. It really suprised me at the end, but it all made sense.
I would highly recommended this book to everyone looking for a good thriller.

Wow a real psychological thriller with a complex twist that I never saw coming! In fact I had to re read a couple of pages to convince myself of what I was reading! Love a good twist that leaves me stunned and shell shocked at the same tine! This book certainly doesn’t disappoint and is hard to put down you just want to keep reading to see what’s going to happen next and it’s never what you expect!
A great cliff hanger of a book that explores a mother’s love, desperation and ultimately downward mental health spiral, taking you on a rollercoaster of emotions as the story unfolds but is totally relatable and realistic!
Thank you so much net galley for this early read I will recommend this book to all !

Boom, Shalini Boland does it again! Very well done Shalini!

"The Other Daughter" is a very clever, twisty thriller that I could not put down. The story is written in both past and present. We are introduced to Catriona in the past and Rachel in the present, both equally fascinating. I was engrossed in this story and flew through the pages. This author never disappoints. I highly recommend to anyone who loves psychological thrillers!

Well written, engaging characters, clever plot, wait for it! Cannot wait to read more! Big fan, 5 stars!

This one is a whirlwind for sure! 2 year old Holly is taken from a playground while her mother has coffee with friends nearby. She is never found, nor is her kidnapper. Fast forward several years. Holly's mother Rachel now leaves in a quiet town outside of London with her two children. As she goes to pick them up from school one day, she meets Kate along with her three children, including teen daughter Bella who bears a striking resemblance to the child stolen from Rachel. Determined to prove Bella is her child, Rachel will stop at nothing, from spying to stalking and everything in between. She KNOWS that this child is hers. Her husband Matt is unconvinced and feels Rachel is going off the rails mentally and emotionally. He then betrays her in one of the worst ways possible.
You can feel the emotions on the pages of Shalini's writing. She writes as though she is there in the story with the characters. When all is said and done though, the twist will leave your mouth hanging wide open, unable to speak. Without any true spoilers, nothing is as it seemed...

'The Other Daughter': I am undecided as to whether I HATED it so much I LOVED it or I LOVED it so much I HATED it!

I would never categorize this story as either 'emotional' or 'gripping'. I consider the terms to be too benign. No. 'The Other Daughter' was a throat punch right to the jugular!

As the story unfolded, the plot and the backstory did not converge, rather they collided, mercilessly delivering its reader the coup de grâce. In the tale's delivery, the narrative was methodical; the pace was maddening.

All at once, I was livid with Rachel for her incautious ineptitude, anxious for her deteriorating mental state, and impatient for a resolution. As I read this book, my reaction was so visceral (Oh, how I wanted to scream!) that I was completely blindsided when everything finally went down. Bottom line—this read was CRAZY good! I highly recommend this book (and possibly a tranquilizer). 5+ stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Shalini Boland for an ARC of 'The Other Daughter' in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

Having read all of Shalini Boland’s previous domestic noir thrillers it’s amazing how she pops them out like toast - thankfully! The Other Daughter follows the traditional route - then and now, different POV’s, missing child, lots of red herrings then BOOM BOOM BOOM the twist happens and I, who have read more of these books than I can count, did’nt see it coming and actually gasped out loud around 4am this morning as I had to get up early to finish it. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

Thanks net galley for allowing me to read this early edition of this wonderful story.
I is difficult to say too much about this book without giving the story away,
A woman called catriona had a daughter who accidentally drowned in two inches of water in the bath.
She was so upset that she went to a shopping mall and too someone’s daughter and pretended that she her daughter.
The story then goes to the mother of the little girl who was stolen, it gets a.bit complicated but it’s a brilliant story and really exciting, could not put it down as had to know what happens in the end.

It's hard to write this review without giving a plot spoiler. This was an extremely clever story throughout. Anymore and I might give it away!

I am a massive fan of this author's books and I loved this one until the ending which I found complex and very confusing
With all her books, the story flowed and I flew through the pages. I enjoy books that I don't have to think too deeply about and I found this one was just a little too complex for me personally but I do think the author has taken a step up and this will be very popular with the majority of today's psychological thriller readers.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

From reading other reviews,I have noticed that when it comes down to twists in thrillers, reader's opinions are divided. Some enjoy a really good twist of two whilst others don't,I suppose it's all down to personal preference. Me....I love a good twist or two,as long as I don't see them coming. I love a twist that blows my mind and leaves me sat in my comfy chair, totally stunned and doing a very bad impersonation of omg cat. Well.. in The Other Daughter, Shalini Boland cleverly manipulates the reader into believing that you think you know what's going on and then she throws in a massive, jaw dropping twist that takes everything that you thought you knew, rolls into into a ball and chucks it out the window.

The story that is told in chapters that alternate between now and then is predominately narrated by Rachel who lives in Wareham in Dorset with her husband Matt and their two children Charlie and Jess. On the surface it would appear that Rachel has it all,a happy marriage, two loving children,a lovely home and a job that she loves in a local cafe. But Rachel is hiding a devastating secret, one that she hasn't even divulged to Matt. Seven years ago,her two year old daughter Holly was abducted from a play area outside a cafe in London whilst Rachel was chatting to one of her friends. For years Rachel has managed to bury the pain and get on with her life. But then one day she befriends a new mother who has just moved into the area with her family and when Rachel meets the woman's eldest daughter Bella, she is stunned at how closely Bella resembles her missing daughter. After that meeting Rachel finds herself spending every waking moment trying to find the evidence that proves that Bella is her missing daughter. She is totally convinced that Bella's mother and father were behind Molly's abduction. Although I could empathise with Rachel because of the shock of losing her young daughter,I can't say that I thought she was a very likeable character for various reasons. I did feel a lot of sympathy for poor Matt and their two children as Rachel's behaviour became more erratic and her obsession with Bella gradually took over her life. But is Bella really Rachel's missing daughter and precisely how far is Rachel prepared to go to prove what she believes to be true?

The chapters that were set in the past were narrated by a woman called Catriona, a complex character who was very pivotal to the plot and her chapters especially at the beginning of the book were chilling and intense. But who was she and how does she fit into this emotionally charged thriller? Well you are just going to read this absolutely brilliant story and find out for yourself.

I really love Shalini Boland books, they are always extremely well written, tightly plotted, page turners and The Other Daughter is no exception. Her characters are all well rounded, vivid and realistic. Her story telling is hypnotic and captivating, drawing you into her character's fictional world. The only disappointing aspect about her books is that once you start reading one,you don't want to put it down so it is over far too quickly. I loved this book and would have giving it far more than five stars if I could. Very very highly recommended.

Shalini Boland never fails to disappoint.... this is a totally gripping, edge of your seat, hold your breath psychological drama, what would you do if you daughter was taken and then BOOM 9 years later, a 12 year old girl only recently moved to the area with her family is identical to your daughter, hardly surprising Rachel went into full meltdown mode, is this her daughter, if so, she has to thread lightly... I was engrossed in the story, literally could not put it down, wishing upon everything that at long last this was her daughter, mystery solved and they all lived happily ever after... c'mon really ha ha..... what an absolute belter and holy crap a twist that firstly I wasn't expecting a twist and secondly WTF.....

Oh wow! What. A. Book. It left me breathless!

Just when you think this author can't get any better she does!

It's then and now plot is brilliant. Both are full of suspense, cliff hangers and twists.

I read this in one sitting as after that start there was no way I could put it down until I'd read every single tantalising word.

I will recommend this book to everyone I know.

Deserves more that 5 stars.
