The Other Wife by Claire McGowan is a psychological thriller that pits cheating spouses against their wronged partners. Suzi has been married to Nick for three years, and she has given him reasons to be jealous. Now she’s pregnant, not sure whether her husband or her lover Sean is the father, and she’s basically imprisoned in a cottage in a remote area near Kent, England, where Nick hopes to keep her faithful.

Nora has just moved next door, downsizing from a lovely home into a run-down rental cottage after the death of her husband, which has created a shortage in finances. Nora and Suzi strike up a friendship although each is cautious about revealing too much about their personal lives at first.

Then there’s Elle, who lives in a nice home in Guildford, where she waits anxiously for her doctor husband Patrick, who arrives home late most every night. Elle suspects there is another woman, and she worries constantly that he will leave her. She is about to come unraveled.

Not everybody in this novel is who they say they are, leading to deadly consequences for some.
Born in Ireland, Claire McGowan lives in London. She writes the “highly addictive” Paula McGuire series as well as her standalone thrillers.

My review will be posted on Goodreads starting May 3, 2020.

I’d like to thank Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in return for an objective review.

Wow! This book does not let up with the twists and turns. A women scorned is a dangerous thing, and secrets always come to light! This is a story of karma, revenge and drama.

I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. The Other Wife followed the typical Ruth Ware/Paula Hawkins "Girl" genre. The characters weren't very likeable. The story was okay and kept me guessing. I'd recommend to someone looking for a quick, suspenseful read.

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I usually love McGowans books but this one fell short for me. Unfortunately I had a hard time getting through it it was so slow.

Quick moving psychological thriller! Suzi and her husband Nick move to the country away from her busy life in London when they fall pregnant. Suzi quickly learns to hate the isolation whilst Nick is at work, she is left on her own, no transport or friends around her. Suzi is keeping secrets from Nick - that she had an affair - that she can’t confide in anyone; until Nora moves into the cottage next door. Nora has her own secrets though!

Very surprising ending - I’d love to read more of the story in particular about Nora.

The Other Wife
Claire McGowan
I have read all of Claire McGowan’s books so was looking forward to reading this and I was not disappointed. It is a story of a young couple, the husband is totally controlling, the wife submissive and unhappy, she has been having an affair and is pregnant, but her lover has gone AWOL. Their neighbour is a widow and seems unusually interested in their lives. This book has layer upon layer of twists and turns and I found I was reading late into the night to see what was going to happen/be revealed next. I thoroughly recommend this.

Oh, yes, this was really good. The characters were all formed and weren’t like mannequins, the plot was pretty good and the setting was intriguing. I totally recommend this book. The best thing was the intricacy of the plot.

There is absolutely no doubt about it Claire McGowan is a powerful writer.

In this book we meet three women , Suzy, Elle and Nora. each with a secret but where does the real danger lie?

Claire McGowan creates a real feeling of jeopardy as the reader grapples with the commonality between the three women as we hear their stories from each of their own viewpoints. of each woman,

If your preference is for a suspense novel then this one is full of secrets and lies and served up with a dollop of revenge.

This twisty tale just drags you deeper and deeper as you go. I kept wondering “is she going to kill her?” And the author made you think she was because of the inner voice. I was satisfied with the ending. It was a little obvious, for me at least, how it was going to go down. There were a few little plot twists thrown in I didn’t see though.

Fast-Paced Psychological thriller with a dark and sinister vibe to it that is told in the perspectives of three women: Elle, Nora, and Suzi. And each one has a secrets that has to be kept hiding but like all secrets they sometimes come out in the open for everyone to know. The story has twist and turns that will shock you, surprise you in some ways and in others will keep you guessing , and in many ways also show you how far others will go to get Revenge on the one that has wronged them. With tbat said i want to thank NetGalley for letting me read and review it .And i can't wait to see what else this author comes up with.

I received a free e-copy of The Other Wife by Claire McGowan from NetGalley for my honest review.

The book had a good plot and several twists to it. I just really didn't connect with the characters.

A domestic thriller about women who have secrets. They want someone to talk to and trust but can they trust each other?

Mark my words this book is going to be a huge hit for this author. This is an exceptional thriller.

I really don't want to discuss the plot because I want everyone to discover this story on their own terms. It's intricate. It's breathtaking. It's heart-pumping. It's shiver inducing. It's everything I could ever ask for in this genre. I started this book yesterday morning and tore through 75% without even realizing it. I was completely riveted to the pages.

Thank you to NetGalley and publishing company for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! This book was so twisty and crazy and I loved every minute of it.

Suzi is married to Nick and they have moved to the country since Nick does not trust Suzi (which he probably has good reason not to) Now in the country, Suzi is alone until her neighbor Nora moves in and becomes her confidante.

I love books that are told from multiple perspectives. In The Other Wife, the story is told through Suzi, Nora, and Elle.

It is another book that keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes you read late into the night.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy for my honest review.

This is such a fast-paced psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page.

This book has so many twists and turns that you’ll want to continue reading to find out what happens next. This was my first, but not last, Clare McGowan book!

I want to thank NetGalley and the publishers of this novel for a digital ARC!

Suspense. Emotion. Humor. Twists and turns. The Other Wife has all of this and more. Suzi cheated on her husband, Nick, and not just once. Now Suzi is pregnant, no longer working and living in an isolated cottage with her husband. She spends her days thinking about the mistakes she has made, wondering what happened to her lover, and doing the bidding of her husband while he is off working. In moves Nora next door. Maybe now Suzi will have someone to talk to during the day besides the dog, and someone to walk with her.
But Nora has secrets. Suzi has secrets. Can these two be friends when they both have so much to hide? Suddenly, something brings the two of them together. Now what happens? The twists and turns in this book will keep you on your toes and the edge of you seat. I will admit that, in the beginning, I was confused. It took me a bit to catch on to the storyline. Pay attention from the beginning, and all will become clear to you.
This was a very creatively written book that will keep you on your toes and keep you engaged. Once the story reeled me in, everything else that I was reading went on the back burner, as I read feverishly to see just what would happen next. I liked the characters, or most of them anyway. I found them to be interesting and engaging, and the plot intriguing. Do not sleep on this one and don’t give up on it. It is an awesome read. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

This one was not great. None of the characters were very likeable, the story line was long and drawn out, it took a very long time to get to the "point".

Suzi did a bad thing. She’s paying for it now, pregnant, scared, and living in an isolated cottage with her jealous husband, Nick. My first book by this author, but I'll be reading more

Women and the men they have chosen, all of whom are harbouring secrets. Liked the start, but then it dragged until around the 60% mark, when it became interesting and far livelier. These women - how on earth did they tolerate everything, no backbone at all apparently! It was predictable and didn’t take long to work out but I like to work a bit harder than I had to with this book. Plus I don’t think the weather gets as bad as described in Kent with impassible roads for days on end, being described as “normal” for this part of the country. The cover was intriguing and I liked how it was written.
