I always find psychological thrillers quite difficult to review mostly because their success for the reader is better if they know as little as possible about what is actually happening between the pages before diving in. That, of course, makes it tricky for me when there are things I want to say but don’t want to spoil it for other readers.

The blurb is of course what piqued my interest in this book, it’s hard not to want to know what Thursday finds out about Seth in that unusual scenario. One thing I can tell you with ease is that I managed this book in two sittings and the only reason I had to put it down was because my kindle died on me. It really is that kind of story that you find difficult to leave behind once you get into it.

There was one point I found myself starting to get a little bit disappointed, I won’t go into too much detail but I felt like for such a strong start it was becoming something I had read before. The originality was being replaced by tried and tested and felt, in all honesty, a bit lazy, I was hoping for something that had matched what came before. Obviously, I stuck with it because even though I  was feeling that way this book has somewhat of an addictive quality that keeps you wanting more the further you delve into the story.

I’m glad I did stick with it because the author did manage to pull it back and deliver an ending that gave me a few well-delivered unpredictable thrills and left me with a bit of a book hangover. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a thriller that will consume you for a day or two and leave your heart pounding at the end.

I really didn’t get along with this story at all. It seemed far fetched and was hard to follow. I made it to 25% before giving up.

Holy crap, what did I just read?!
This book has just totally put my head in a blender and turned it on without the lid on!
Started off like a pretty 'normal' psychological thriller and I was rrally getting into the story, but then about halfway in, the accelerator was stamped on and brakes decided to stop working!
I can't actually decide at the moment whether or not I liked it, but I will most definitely not forget it!

I haven't read anything by this author before but the description made it sound really interesting.
The book doesn't disappoint and you are hooked in to a quandary of different emotions as you join Thursdays journey through love and the questions can you love someone too much and why does she love him as she does?
Lots of twists and turns. Lots of emotions.
A great read with the ultimate twist,

My first book by this author, but not my last! This book is original with many twists and turns that you don't see coming - and even up to the end you don't know who to believe. The 'wives' are interesting and well described, each having their own life to protect! Thursday has rather too many near misses when she is driving for my liking and towards the end there is the sentence 'During my last week in ... (don't want to spoil anything) but with the ending how can it be??!!
Definitely a page turner but one or two flaws for me.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Tarryn Fisher/HQ for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

Soooo many readers love this one and I am just not convinced. This book is ridiculous. Reminds me of how I felt reading a J P Delaney book about a robot wife. Reading for reading's sake. I forced myself through because of the endless 5-star reviews but what is this book? Am I missing something, having never read a book about polygamy before? I also couldn't get past the wives being named after the days of the week they get their husband. I know the point of this, to objectify and depersonalise the women, but really? No.

So many mixed feelings about this book.
I liked parts of it and was on the edge for many moments but somehow, overall, the feeling is that some people are too much in a good way but mostly in a bad way. I’m guessing that’s what made me keep reading because the author created a not so usual world in this story and the characters are quite an interesting mix.
I must admit that it’s my first book by the author but I’m going to read more because her writing is very good and it keeps you wanting more and more.

This is a story with many twists. I was not totally convinced by it. It started off as a gripping read and turned dark and less convincing towards the end.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

This book starts out fairly ordinary but then you learn about Thursday’s Marriage. I know for sure that I would not tolerate such a thing. As we learn of the husband Seth, things are mysterious. I loved the characters and the way the story unfolds as I reached the middle of this book some changes in the story line were revealed. I really really loved it I was reading till 2.30am this morning. I literately could not put it down. I was rooting for the main character all the way through

This book is well written and perfectly paced and the Author Tarryn Fisher composed a fabulous story. I have not read her books before but give me the next one it is compulsory for me to read. I highly recommend this book to those that like a bit of psychology.. How will she follow that

The Wives is an unusual read with an interesting premise. The narrator – let’s call her Thursday – describes her life as one of three wives of her husband, Seth. She knows there are two others – she calls them Monday and Tuesday, after the days he spends with them – but has never met them and doesn’t even know their real names. When Thursday finds a clue to the identity of one of the other women, things start to unravel. Who is Seth really?

At the beginning Thursday seemed like such a doormat – entirely devoted to her husband’s wellbeing, striving to be the best of his three wives – that it was a surprise to learn that she actually had a demanding job (as an ER nurse). It was hard to comprehend why anyone would deliberately sign up to such a living arrangement, particularly since it’s clear it wouldn’t have been Thursday’s choice – she’d far rather have her husband to herself. (It’s hard to see what’s so incredibly loveable about him, though. He really didn't seem that great.) As the story goes on, however, she does develop more agency.

It’s certainly an engrossing and well-written read and I galloped through it, but ultimately found it a bit unsatisfying. There’s a big twist bang on halfway through, the nature of which I wasn’t really a fan of – it’s a trope which I particularly dislike, actually - and after that I think I was hoping for something other than what was actually delivered. Things get quite complicated and it’s – intentionally – quite hard to discern what’s true and what isn’t. Ultimately, although the original premise seemed new and intriguing, the direction it later went in was a little disappointing to me and felt both quite unrealistic (to be fair, the whole book is unrealistic!) and as though it had been done too much before.

This book.... holy robin redbreast wow! It was amazing. I’ve always been a fan of Tarryn Fisher and to see her publisher finally is a great feeling. To see her published with THIS, it’s just wonderful.
This entire book is female vengeance gone awol and I am so here for it. As a sucker for a revenge story I was hooked from the first chapter. A truly marvellous writer and a great story. Read it. You’ll love it.

This book has been sitting for a while in my list of books to be read, however I’m now wishing I read it as soon as I received it.
It’s fantastic and I loved every page. It’s not anything like what I expected it to be.
The plot is original, engaging and fabulously dark.
I’d strongly recommend this to anyone!

Well, this was not what I was expecting.

Thursday is wife number 2 and sister wife of Monday and Tuesday, named after the day their husband spends with each wife. There is one rule. The wives do not meet each other. That is until Thursday decides to break that rule and goes searching for Tuesday.

Is Tuesday like what their husband describes her to be? And is he the husband he tells Thursday he is?

If you like your thrillers fast paced and with a twists at every turn, this is for you. I read this over a weekend. I could not put it down.

Thank you Netgalley and HQ Stories for an eARC of this book for an honest review.

Brilliant! A well written and throughly enjoyable read. Loved the story and the characters. A very easy but clever story that kept me completely engaged all the way through. Will definitely be looking at other books by Tarryn Fisher.

Highly recommended to all!

Thank you HQ and Netgalley.

This was a really cleverly written read and definitely something different. A twisting turning plot, kept me gripped and guessing to the end. The characters were well written and very real - though I didn’t really warm to any of them, they weren’t particularly ‘likeable’ but that didn’t detract from the story or my enjoyment of the book.

This is the kind of book that captures your attention in the first instance by the unusual situation the narrator, finds herself in. It’s not giving away any spoilers to reveal that her and husband Seth are living in a polygamist marriage. He has two other wives he divides his time between but the difference here is that they don’t know each other. If you’ve ever watched a Louis Theroux documentary then you may have seen one about polygamy in Utah and some of the families he followed and I think he may have chosen polyamorous relationships as another topic to investigate. Anyway, what struck me most was that while all of the individuals involved were keen to promote this way of living as an ideal, there was always someone who didn’t seem to be as ‘comfortable’ with the situation as they’d have you believe. That is exactly how I felt about the narrator and the premise of this novel is centred around her desire to know more about the other wives, prompted by an accidental discovery of a doctor’s receipt in the name of Hannah.
I can promise that you won’t be disappointed by this novel. I couldn’t read it fast enough, so engrossed was I by Thursday’s predicament (sorry it’s a while before you realise you don’t know her name!!)and curious about how Seth manages to juggle three wives and a flourishing business, appearing to be a different version of himself with each one. I always felt I was on Thursday’s side, trying to understand her reasoning for being in a marriage that she didn’t feel completely happy with, preferring to stay and accept what Seth could offer, desperate not to rock the boat. Whilst this is portrayed as a consensual decision, their marriage felt one sided and all on Seth’s terms. I believe Thursday showed no self respect in remaining with Seth who is clearly a handsome charming yet potentially manipulative character but who am I to judge?? I guess that could describe an awful lot of relationships/ marriages so I became as keen as Thursday to discover more about Hannah and the life she was leading with Seth.
However the storyline is far more complex than I first thought. At times I became confused with characters and who was who but don’t be put off as the plot is SO cleverly constructed and the author has done an amazing job in terms of deliberately misleading the reader with ample use of smoke and mirrors!! I found this such a compelling read, even more so when I realised that maybe Thursday isn’t a wholly reliable narrator with the lines between reality and fiction blurred. There are so many twists and turns to navigate throughout the storyline, so just as you think you understand how the rest will play out, the author blindsides you with another unexpected revelation. It’s impossible to discuss the other wives without ruining it for other readers and I am always suspect of reviews that declare ‘you must read this’ etc BUT in this case it’s true!!
The Wives for me was an addictive read, which once you start you really won’t want to put down. Definitely kept me on my toes , with a final knockout punch to conclude. Absolutely brilliant and highly recommend. My thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read.

I just love books that keep me guessing what is going to happen and this one didn’t disappoint right to the very end. The story is well written and the characters were believable and I was so swept along that I read it in less than one day. A great book.

An amazing, psychotic thriller.

This was an amazing book. I read it in two days because I needed to know how it finished and despite thinking I had worked it out I was completely wrong.

I found the style of writing very easy to read and had I been reading it as a book the pages would have been turning constantly! As it was my Kindle was red hot!

Thursday is married to Seth but in a strange way as she shares him with two other wives called Monday and Tuesday. Such is her love for Seth that Thursday is happy to live in this type of marriage. Seth comes from a family where polygamy was the norm and Thursday knows that she is Seth’s legal wife as he had divorced Tuesday to marry her. However, there is now a further wife called Monday and Seth divides his time between the three women. Thursday is not happy with the situation when she finds out that Monday, a younger version of the other two wives is pregnant, but as she has had a miscarriage, resulting in her being unable to have a child, she feels she has to accept the situation.

However, when Thursday finds a bill in Seth’s jacket actually naming Monday as Hannah Ovark she decides that she must find out more about her. This in turn leads to her discovering more about Tuesday, a lawyer named Regina Coele.

This is where the plot and Thursday’s life starts to unravel as she makes contact with the other two women with devastating consequences for everyone involved. The actual truth about this whole saga is quite terrifying and completely threw me as I had never suspected the truth and you really need to read this to discover how a person’s mind can be so convoluted.

This was the first book that I have read by Ms Fisher. I now need to read some of her other books. Highly recommended.
