Good strong characters and feel there is a lot more behind the main character than is disclosed in this first in a planned series of publications.
Good indepth story and several twists along the way.

DI Clare Mackay - has recently transferred from Glasgow to St Andrews and is getting used to the slower pace of crime away from the big city. However when the body of a man is found at a wedding party she soon realises that life in St Andrews won’t be as easy as she thought.
A card with the number 5 on is found on the body and when another body is found the following night with a number 4 on Clare knows she has to find a link between the victims before more bodies turn up.
Digging into the mens pasts might provide some clues but Clare and her team discover more than they bargained for. This isn’t a straightforward serial killer case, there is much more at stake than they could ever have imagined. But with a DCI who doesn’t think she is up to the job Clare will have her work cut out to prove to herself and him that she can solve the case.

Gripping police procedural! I was taken in by the creative weaving of Marion Todd's story telling. Enthralled by the first chapter, I was so captivated that I finished the book in one night. I love a strong female lead in a novel, and this one delivered, somewhat flawed and intense, Clare will be an interesting character to see developed and evolve as the series progresses. Anxiously awaiting book two!

Really gripping book, I found the lead character of Clare Mackay as one of great intellect, drive and personality. While flawed as her backstory where she shot a suspect, forcing her to re-locate to St. Andrews.
While using St. Andrews is a good idea, a small but famous location with a wealth of history and cultural awareness; the only criticism will be can a whole series be done based in this small locale - but then again it did nothing of Midsomar.

The action is quite dramatic, the chase of Fergus especially done well; while the narrative of victims being picked off one at a time serves a good dramatic thrust.

Well written, pacy and gorged in my reading of it. Look forward to more tales of Mackay (and Benjy)

oh my word where to start....

the first victim is at a wedding, where he receives an interesting text message offering him a quickie....what man can resist that offer...

he is number 5

the next victim is number 4 and thats when the police realise there is a serial killer around...

but what do these two men have in common....its unbelieveable....

this has to be the novel of the year as far as i am concerned...i found this book gripping, never dull and some great characters in it plus the surprises never stop...i could not put this book down...

and this is the debut novel for marion todd...it blew my mind....

i cant wait for the next book in this exciting series and marion todd is now in my watch list of favourite authors

Why are people with seemingly nothing in common being murdered in an horrific way in the Scottish town of St Andrews?  That is what newly arrived Detective Inspector Clare Mackay has to discover and with the killer leaving hints about the number of possible victims she knows people's lives could depend on her.

The first victim, killed at his sister's wedding, wasn't universally loved but no one has any idea who would want him dead. Before the investigation can make any headway however, another body is found,  killed in a similar way, and Clare knows a race against time has begun.

This is the first in a series of books featuring DI Mackay and her team located in 'the home of golf's, St Andrews, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The storyline was good and although I worked out the 'why' quite quickly and the 'how' was always clear, the 'who' was tantalisingly out of reach until almost the very end. As is the norm in this genre the lead detective has a history to battle but in this case it was dealt with in a realistic and satisfying manner and hopefully will be only a side issue in future investigations.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new series with an engaging lead protagonist or who enjoys a well written murder mystery.

This is the first book in a new series featuring Detective McKay, and I can see the book and the series going places. I love the way she investigates the crime, not leaving a stone unturned until she gets her man! Recommended.

What a brilliant start to a new series featuring DI Clare Mackay. A fast paced storyline with the right amount of twists and turns to keep you engrossed. The main character Clare was very likeable and has an interesting team behind her especially Chris who hopefully we will learn more about as the series goes on. I can’t wait to read more by this author. Hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next instalment!!!

This is a gripping start to a series with many twists and keeps you turning the pages right to the end.

Wow. What an absolutely cracking read. I loved this book. See Them Run is a police procedural featuring DI Clare Mackay. Set in St Andrews, the novel is rich in local atmosphere and Marion Todd uses the location of this book to great effect.

Clare has recently re-located to St Andrews from Glasgow. She moved to make a fresh start and is determined to put her turbulent past behind her. When several local men are murdered, Clare and her team are soon faced with tracking down a killer and trying to find what connects each victim - because, on the surface, they have nothing in common and didn't even know each other.

What follows is a pacy, gripping and extremely satisfying crime novel. There were just the right amount of plot twists to keep me turning the pages and trying to work out what was going on. Full of rich characters, an atmopsheric location and an utterly credible protagonist, See Them Run is a brillliant addition to the world of crime fiction.

It's also the first in a new series and I'm really excited to see what happens next for Clare and her adorable side-kick, Chris. (and I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for Clare's budding romance with a local art expert!!!).

This is the first novel in the DI Clare McKay series and I really hope that there's not a long wait for the next one!

After a short build up, the first murder happens quickly and in an unexpected manner. A wedding guest is lured outside on what he thinks is a promise of something saucy, but what greets him is entirely the opposite.

Another murder swiftly follows, with DI McKay being SIO whilst grappling with her own personal issues.

The book speeds along at an excellent pace but without losing any of the police procedural details and red tape. I really enjoyed reading it and at times didn't want to stop reading it!

I eagerly await the rest of the series.

I had high hopes for this new series and it lived up to all my expectations. Detective Clare Mackay is investigating a hit and run in the town of St Andrews. Clare has recently transferred from Glasgow after being involved in a shooting whilst being attached to the firearms department. The book is fast paced with short chapters filled with tension. As the body count rises, Clare and her team are under immense pressure to solve the crimes. This is a great start to this new series and I can't wait to see what the future holds for Clare. This was a welcome read with well rounded characters and fast paced story line. Clare recently transfered to St Andrews after a tragic episode in her career in Glasgow is thrown in at the deep end with a series of hit and runs which prove to be murders. It is a race against time to prevent further murders. I hope this will be the first of many by this author.

Jeepers, I’m going to think twice about attending weddings in St Andrews from now on! Haha not really but this book takes all the good points of Tartan Noir and moves it to a city not so well covered in crime fiction. Until now! This is a new series and one that is well worth a read.

Premise -There’s a wedding and the brother of the bride responds to a flirty text by agreeing to meet the sender. But he meets that person and is then run down. He’s found later with a card with the number five written on it. What does this all mean?

DI Clare Mackay is on the case from the start. She’s just moved from Glasgow to St Andrews so you know she’s no nonsense but has that sense of being an ‘outsider’ which is always interesting with a character. She has to make her mark despite being the new person and that is always interesting.

Then the body with the number four is found……you know where this is going. What a countdown!

St Andrews is grittly evoked and has that edge of being a city not so much covered by crime fiction until now. AT least not in this way. It’s feels fresh, invigorating and compelling from the off.

Never mind the golf, you should be heading there for some gritty Tartan Noir now!

It's always exciting to discover a new police procedural series and the fact that it's set in Scotland is an added bonus. I very much enjoyed "See Them Run", albeit the subject matter was challenging in places, and I look forward to the next instalment in the DI Clare Mackay series.

What an absolutely cracking start to a new detective series!
DI Clare Mackay has transferred from Glasgow to St Andrews where she is the senior officer to a small but supportive and hard-working team in the picturesque town known for tourists, its golf course, and its university.
A Saturday night and Andy Robb, a taxi driver, is attending his sister's wedding reception at a country hotel; he's discovered at the end of the driveway having been run-over intentionally. A card with the number 5 is on his chest.
DI Mackay has a murder enquiry on her hands and as the investigation begins another apparent hit-and-run is reported - a prominent business man, Bruce Gilmartin, was found in his driveway. A card with the number 4 is at the scene.
With 2 murder enquiries to deal with, DCI Alastair Gibson is put in overall charge, only he expresses his doubts to DI Mackay regarding her capabilities to do the job, especially in the light of the 'incident' which led to her leaving Glasgow.
Never deterred, DI Mackay is competent and decisive and gets the team to work. Now they have to find the connection between the 2 victims - are they looking for possibly 3 more?
When a third victim of a hit-and-run is reported it becomes a race against time to save 2 more, especially as the DCI has given the team only days before he intends to bring in another team to take over.

This is very well-written and a fast-paced read. No skim-reading of superfluous narrative - it's a straightforward police procedural with a good story. Only one twist really that caught me out, but nevertheless it was a very good read. Good characters and dialogue, and an intriguing back-story to DI Mackay's personal and professional life which I hope will continue through.
Thoroughly recommended.

See Them Run is an excellent and entertaining crime thriller. We are introduced to DI Clare Mackay who has moved from Glasgow and is now working with the force in St Andrews, there is a back story here that weaves well into the plot of this present one.
Thrown into the deep end investigating three hit and run murders all with descending numbers from 5 to 3 on each body it’s a race against time to prevent 2 and 1 being killed, not easy when you’ve no idea who they are. Add together the beginnings of good team work, an obnoxious DCI and you have the beginnings of a really good detective mystery. Realistic and intriguing dealing with some hard hitting revelations this book grips your attention and keeps those pages turning.
I look forward to the next in this series.

An intriguing police procedural with lots going for it - it's concisely written, deftly plotted and nicely paced.

DI Clare Mackay has recently transferred to a new police force in St Andrews (east Scotland) after a harrowing experience which left her questioning her own abilities and her relationship with an inadequately supportive boyfriend. She is plunged back into the thick of it with a couple of murders, the bodies having been left with cards numbered '5' and '4', suggesting the possibility of another three victims to come. Clearly the links between the first two victims must be established in order to warn the others. I did guess the 'why' about half way through, but not the 'who'.

The main character, Clare, is superbly portrayed and she has an interesting back story which meshes very well with the main plot. Other characters are also realistic and easy to visualise; some nice and some not so nice. The locations are described in enough detail to enable the reader to picture them. In fact, I even found myself looking at google maps and pictures of the area. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's a full-on police procedural, all told from the main character's perspective, and the plot (which is excellent) is completely linear. Those are clearly minor gripes and I would happily read other works by the author. Hopefully we will hear more of DI Mackay.

When I picked this book up after reading the premise featuring a brand new detective series, I had 5 books open and I was missing several deadlines. Yet, I cancelled all my plans to read this book and completed it in a day!

The story begins with an accident, a hit and run which will later be discovered as a targeted kill when a white card with the number '1' is found on the victim. In the picturesque small Scottish town of St Andrews, it's all quiet until the accident strikes and disturbs the local. Detective Inspector Clare Mackay heads the investigation with her squad - Sergeant Jim, Detectives Chris and Sara of Police Scotland. Clare is new to town from Glasgow. She's quick-witted, and doesn't hesitates to make decisions on scene to coordinate her team in search of the killer. As soon as the investigation begins, there's another accident reported and there's another card found on the scene with number 4 on the victim. Clare begins to contemplate the similarities between the investigations as she builds up pace and races in search of new links and evidences. Will it be too late before another murder strikes? Will Clare be able to stop the increasing body count? The clock is ticking and Clare has to face the pressure from her new DCI to continue her investigation.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this book. It's quick paced with short chapters and the crisp writing is just enough to keep me hooked. The police investigation led by Clare is definitely as treat for Crime thriller lovers, as the procedurals are meticulous and the story moves with a consistent pace. Certainly loved the picturesque town of St Andrews described by the skillful words chosen by Marion Todd. I can't wait to read more adventures featuring DI Mackay and her bright little squad.
