Love love love! One of my favorite Lauren Layne books, which is saying a lot. I loved the political backdrop and the characters. I see this is the first in a series, which excites me. |
Thank you Netgalley for a copy for an honest review. I’ve only read Lauren Layne’s park avenue series which I really loved! This story was cute but I don’t think I was in the mood for it. I thought I’d give it a try since I loved her other books but I think the job positions weren’t working for me. Not my style for a contemporary romance |
This was my first book to read by Lauren Layne, and I have got to say.. it did not disappoint!! New York’s sexy, single mayor meets a notorious governors daughter with a secret past that is not as it seems... sign me up! I loved the witty banter between Addie and Robert. Their chemistry jumped off the page! This was an easy feel good read, and I will most definitely be reading more books by Lauren Layne! |
I’m a little bummed after reading Yours in Scandal. It was not my favorite book by Lauren Layne. She is one of my go-to contemporary romance writers and I have loved every single one of her books but this one fell short. Yours in Scandal was just okay bordering on good for me. I’m going to give you my likes and dislikes for it below.
Likes:
*I loved Addie’s character and her back story. The whole estranged daughter of a political opponent thing was fun.
*The romance between Addie and Robert was sweet. It was the best thing about this book. It felt like it was made for a T.V. movie.
*Robert when he wasn’t making dumb decisions.
*Addie’s friends. I see some fun stories coming in the future for them!
*How all the drama and the end played out. It was cute!
Dislikes:
*Normally, I’m not a fan of third person narration. It usually works for me in LL’s books because she’s such a great writer. Sadly, it didn’t work for me in this book. It harder for me to connect to the characters.
*I didn’t really like Robert when I first met his character. There was something off-putting about him and I couldn’t figure it out. Maybe it was his willingness to go along with his advisor. I don’t know. I did find myself liking him somewhere in the middle (see above).
*My biggest dislike is that the entire book just felt slow. I had to push myself to read it when normally I’m enthralled with LL’s stories.
I really wish I hadn’t struggled through the beginning of this book and had to push myself to read it because the romance and the ending were so good. I’m hoping the rest of the books in the series are stronger reads for me.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I admit I am a fan of Lauren Layne, so I am maybe a bit biased. I enjoyed this book. Boy did I not like the campaign manager! I did like Robert and also Addie. I felt the ending was a mit rushed and a little confusing. I can't talk about my confusion as it might give the plot away!! Yikes. This is a fun fast paced book with interesting characters. A solid 4 stars. I think most romance readers will enjoy! |
4 stars.⭐⭐⭐⭐ A scandalous and amusing read from one of my favorite authors. This is a really great start to Lauren Layne's new "Man of the Year" series. Yay!!!! A "Politically" themed romance with the all the wit, humor and style that I have come to expect and associate with this author. I really enjoyed this supposed bad girl?/honest politician? storyline . A very "rapid" page turner for me!! Say no more. I do highly recommend this humorous and smart romance to all fans and lovers of contemporary romance!!!! Thank you Montlake Romance and Netgalley for this ARC and this is my honest review. |

This delightful story outlines Robert and Addie’s journey to HEA. Robert is the mayor of NYC. His 8-year term in office is winding down and his goal is to run for governor of NY. Robert and others believe (like most politicians) the Governor Brennan is not what he appears to be. Robert campaign manager devise a plan for Robert to get close to the Governor’s estranged daughter (Addie) to get “dirt” on the Governor. Alas, Robert is an honest politician with integrity and since this is a romance novel I strongly recommend that you give this book a read to find out what happens next. I enjoyed the slow burn romance between Robert and Addie, the witty banter, and the culmination of their emotional journey as they finally decide on what is most important. I read the book in one day and I read some chapters more than once. I enjoy romance novels which gets the readers into the privacy of the bedroom and then close the door and this is one aspect I respect about Lauren Layne’s books. I would love to see a second book with Rosalie’s story and Robert's campaign as the subplot. I read this book on a cold afternoon, snuggled under a blanket and it was like eating a nice meal you want to savor and continue to enjoy. A truly delightful emotional read. |
Mayor and a party girl 💕 At first the story was a little slow but when I came to the part that they are together already it was good and not the story I was expecting. Hope the next books will be about Rosalie and Jane. |

This is the second book that I have read by this author and have enjoyed them immensely. The characters are interesting and I quickly found myself drawn into their stories. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review. |
I love Lauren Layne. I know every time I pick one of her books it will be hard to put down and I will definitely have a great time. She has a way of introducing us to fresh and fun characters that we love and root for. Robert and Adeline’s, Addie, story is just another example. I enjoyed how their story was introduced, slowly introducing us to Adeline the reason why she has been hiding in plain sight and her battle to fight the attraction. Robert is a hottie! He is not a jerk, or an over bearing guy, but truly a nice guy that loves the rewards that his career in politics has introduced him to. He is a charmer and you can’t help to fall in love with him. Their dance was entertaining and engaging and you couldn’t help to grin like a fool in certain scenes! It does have a slow simmer in the beginning but quickly heats up mid point. I really enjoy it and look forward to many more from Ms Layne! |

How fantastic was Robert???? I just adored him! I am so in love with this book! Adeline was also an amazing character! I loved how real they seemed (aside from the fact that he was a politician that ACTUALLY told the truth). Awesome book and I can't wait to see what's next! |
Lauren Layne is one of my all-time favourites. I love her snappy dialogue and the chemistry between her characters. That being said, this title fell a little flat for me and I was quite disappointed at how easily the couple's obstacles were overcome. |
Yours in Scandal is about politician Robert Davenport who falls for his opponent's daughter, Addie Blake. He's been named a magazine's Man of the Year (think People's Sexiest Man Alive) and is getting ready to end his second term as mayor of New York City while debating on running for governor. His campaign manager suggests for him to befriend Addie Blake, the estranged daughter of the incumbent governor, in hopes of getting some dirt on the governor. What Robert does not expect is the instant attraction and growing affection for her. However, Addie is known for her wild past and her image would not be suitable for any politician. Can Robert choose between the woman he loves and his career? Lauren Layne has quickly become one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. Her stories are always so sweet and well written - there's humor and the perfect amount of romance. I recently finished her Central Park Pact series and was so happy and excited to see a new one available for request. I have a feeling i'm going to like the rest of this series (besides the cover...)! Thank you Netgalley and Montlake Romance for a copy of his ARC in exchange for my honest review. |
Robert is a JKF Jr. like NYC politician trying to forge his own identity while honoring his beloved late father’s legacy. He has his eye on the governor’s mansion but begins to think his laser focus on his political life might be shortchanging his personal life. Adeline is the current governor’s estranged daughter. A former wild child who’s trying to reform herself. She’s working on finding balance between who she was and who she wants to be, a respected and professional party planner. Robert and Adeline’s paths meet. Not by chance but by a political campaign manager’s machinations. Their relationship develops as secrets and intentions are revealed. This book did not evolve in the predictable way I thought it would, which is a compliment. The way Robert and Adeline honestly talk with each other kept the miscommunication and angst to a minimum, but in no way lessened the drama of this love story. Looking forward to other titles in this new series from Lauren Layne, the Queen of the NYC HEA An aside. I did not like the cover. It is lacking the sexy/sassy look of the Stiletto/Oxford series covers and the charm of the Central Park Pact series covers. I didn’t think the cover model represented the Robert Davenport Jr. described in the book. |
Lauren Layne is one of my go to authors. She could write about anything and make it come alive on the pages. This series tipped a little more to the steamier side than her last series, but isn't too much so that readers who enjoy the romance without a lot of smut will still want to pick this up. You know if you stop several times during a book to read passages to a friend it's a winner! Anyone who's read her other books know that Ms. Layne sneaks in a few movie references, and the Hugh Grant was perfect. Delightful romance read that has a hot mayor (Man of the Year) in the city that never sleeps. Already have it preordered for our customers! |
This is probably my favorite book of Lauren Layne. Usually her books are hit or miss for me the synopsis seemed different and fun to read and it was. I ended up reading it in a few hours. Robert and Addie had the slow burn type of relationship "we shouldn't, should we?' type of build up. What i liked about Robert is that he never judged her for her past or was the typical alpha asshole. He was confident, a bit cocky and sexy but always respectful towards her. Addie is a strong female that went through really hard stuff and became a strong woman in her own right and they have a lot of chemistry, banter and good amount of fluff as well. Overall, i really liked this book and if you're looking for a standalone romance with some political drama, banter, slow burn and some sexy elements, i would recommend it! |

4 stars. I loved it.i love reading political romance books and this book delivered a good political romance. Loved addie and Robert. |
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book. Lauren Layne is a great author of contemporary romance. This new book, is slightly more mature and controlled, however the characters are written just as well. The plot is interesting and easy to read and I like that there isn't any unnecessary drama. Looking forward to more books in the series. |
Lauren Layne knows how to write witty banter and this book has some really fun moments. The political backdrop felt current with what is going on in the world and it was believable to me the conflict between Robert's need not to give any impression of scandal and Adeline's wild child past. I really liked how Robert came to his epiphany and his solution. This was the fairytale ending which made me smile. |

Lovely! Heartwarming! These are the words that come to mind thinking about this book I’ve just devoured! Lauren Layne never fails to amaze with her witty, spicy plots, this one set in the NY City political scene where love and romance win over intrigue and prejudice. |
