Burning Hearts is the second book in the Women of HEARTS PI Series by Marci Bolden. As I said in the review of the first book in the series, Hidden Hearts, I know this author mainly as a contemporary romance writer. Now after the second book, I can see that she is a dynamic romantic suspense writer too.

Very different from the first book which I greatly appreciated. This is not a formula writer but a true master of the art of writing. This story involves a peeking tom who uses cameras to safely watch until one is accidently discovered. Though this not the simple case that it seems to be at first. While there is danger it is not too life threatening until the end. While there are many clues and red herrings along the way I was surprised by who was the actual culprit. Even more so by all the other actions some criminal going on too.

I must say that I love the romance that quietly smokes back to life with a little fanning between Josh and Eva. While the entire force of HEARTS makes an appearance at one time or another, this is still a standalone book. However, like me plan to become hooked. Highly recommend, I have enjoyed everything I have ever read by this author.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this second book in the series but not as much as the first one. I didn’t really feel the chemistry between Eva and Josh as much as between Holly and Jack even though, individually, they were both likable and had great qualities. I liked how strong Eva was and getting to know the rest of the women of HEART. The case wasn’t as cut and dried as you might have expected. All in all, this was a nice read and am looking forward to the other women’s stories.

Another great suspenseful story in the Women of Hearts series. This story focuses on Eva, one of the investigators in the HEARTS private investigator series. We know in the first book that she and Josh have a history. Burning Hearts takes on what would, from the outside, seem like a pretty simple case. I mean, it's just a peeping Tom right? But the more they look at everything, the deeper the voyeurism seems to go...and just when you think you have it figured out, it isn't even remotely who you thought it might be, then you change your guess and bam...again...not who you thought it might be. The storyline kept me guessing until the very end. Meanwhile, Josh and Eva must learn to work together despite having broken up and being in the thick of this investigation will either bring them back together or split them apart forever.

Burning Hearts is the second book in The Women of Hearts series by Marci Bolden

Eva Thompson private investigator for HEARTS had been hired by a local homeowners association to find out whose been placing hidden cameras in their community. When going undercover in a vacant unit seems like the best way to infiltrate the community Eva is ready to take on the task. But going in alone with no backup is an issue. And Eva definitely doesn't like the solution.

Joshua Simmons is trying to get Eva to stop hating him. After their break-up he wants to get back to being there for her. Even though he still has feelings for her. So when the opportunity comes up for him to step into help her, he jumps at the chance. While they are trying to figure out who the suspect is and manuver around the soap opera like setup at the condos they are forced into close quarters. And sharing space can certainly draw people closer together and require then to finally talk about what went wrong.

Eva is a former cop and one of the PI”s at HEARTS. Wendy usually burns her food and sets off the smoke detector. But she woke up with her kitchen full of smoke and the smoke alarm hadn’t gone off. She climbed on a chair to see if the batteries were dead and instead found a wireless camera where they batteries should have been. Neal Price - the president of Jupiter Heights Condominium turns to HEARTS as he wanted to avoid the Police. A new case comes in and Eva is determined to try to get closer to the residents at a condo community and gather clues and possible evidence. Ebva fits the description of the victims so she agreed to move into a vacant condo. But her boss won’t let her do the case alone. Recently Eva broke up with Josh- her boyfriend- because he didn’t believe in her and her abilities to do her job. It would be smarter to go in the community as a couple. Josh is a coroner who works with the ladies of HEARTS. Josh doesn’t want the relationship over as he loved Eva and would do whatever it took to get her back. Josh is willing to move in with eva to help her catch the culprit and hopefully get Eva again. There is a potluck and it would be a good way for Hannah and Josh to meet the other residents. Josh has an encounter that can unravel the case but could end what he thought was a new beginning with Eva.
I loved this book. It was a suspenseful romantic read. . Eva and Josh have great chemistry. I loved the P Is in HEARTS were all female. Shame on Josh for not believing in the woman he loves-Eva. This was well written. I didn’t want to put this down and didn’t endless I had to. This had my attention from the beginning until the end. At times I was on the edge of my chair. I was happy Josh was willing to put himself in danger for Eva. I advise you to read the first book of this series for a smoother read. I also loved the mystery in this book. I loved how strong women were in this book. I chuckled at times reading this. This has intrigue, danger, suspense, mystery, female P Is, romance and so much more. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

Eva, an investigator for HEARTS Investigations, is called out to move into a condo where a woman found a spy cam in her kitchen. The Condo Assoc. president wants things to be kept quiet because, he doesn't want the bad publicity. The other partners of HEARTS want to send Josh, Eve's ex, with her for this investigation. Eva hates the idea because she believes that Josh doesn't have confidence in her and, her abilities as an investigator. Josh will do anything to get Eva to trust him again. He has always loved Eva but, was also always worried sick about her when she got into dangerous situations. He just presented himself the wrong way so, Eva no longer trusts him.
During this investigation, Eva starts to realize that Josh just worried about her because he loves her, not because he doesn't trust her abilities.
This is a very pleasant, fast paced read that I really enjoyed. An Alpha female, dealing with the Beta male that she loves but, doesn't understand!

Wendi Carter was used to her food burning, and setting the smoke detector off, which Wendi affectionately dubbed Ol' Smokey. This time the smoke filled kitchen didn't activate the smoke alarm. Worried that she may have killed the detector's battery, she climbed up on a chair to pop in a new battery. Only to discover, the battery was missing, and in its place was a wireless camera.

Neal Price, the president of the Jupiter Heights Condominium HOA, turns to HEARTS Investigative Services. He wants to avoid the police claiming so as not to scare residents and the good of the community, he'd like HEARTS to look into the matter.

Eva Thompson agrees to go and live in a vacant condo, but the other women are concerned about her being by herself and it's suggested that Joshua Simmons, Eva's ex, accompany her.

Josh and Eva have a past, and they broke up due to misunderstandings. Living together pretending to be in a relationship is going to make pretending a lot harder. A community potluck provides a good opportunity to get acquainted with the residents, and one was put on Eva's radar.

As Eva collects information, and feels she's on the right track to find the voyeur, Josh has an encounter that can unravel the case, and could put an end to what he thought would be a new beginning with Eva.

Another great book about the women of hearts series!! This is the second book, and picks up the story with Eva, where the back story involving Josh is filled in. If you enjoy mysteries with strong women protagonists, you won't want to miss this series. I look forward to the next book regarding another of the women PI's of HEARTS Investigative Services.

I received an ARC courtesy of NetGalley via Pink Sand Press and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.

Burning Hearts is book 2 but can be read on it's own. But seriously read Hidden Hearts first so you get to know who the ladies are behind HEARTS just a little bit more. I love that we get Eva's story with this one. Watching Eva work is amazing. She is strong and looks at al the angels as as PI. You will her hurt and anger when it comes to Joshua in the beginning. You feel the love that is still ever present between them throughout this whole read. I love Joshua. He is just brilliant and he wears his heart on his sleeve. I love the chemistry between Eva and Joshua as they solve the mystery behind who is spying on the women in the condo community. Eva and Joshua work so well together even when Eva is so against it. I love how they take this second chance at love. I loved this one so much and I can't wait for more of the ladies from Hearts to come.

4.25⭐

This is the second book in Marci Bolden's The Women of HEARTS series and it's a cracker. As it has mystery, twists, turns, and a little action. Not to mention a terrific cast of female characters. Who are all well written and likeable, and the plot line itself was nicely crafted and engrossing. Plus, it had a good balance between the mystery of the voyeur and Josh, and Eva's romance; and I was hooked throughout. So much so, I found it exceedingly difficult to put down, and I would happily recommend it to others.

Although Burning Hearts is Book 2 in the series and I have not yet read book 1, I had no trouble reading this book. I love romantic suspense and really enjoyed this book, looking forward to reading more.

This is the second book in the Women of Hearts series and can be read as a stand-alone. Marci Bolden offers a romantic suspense with well-crafted characters and a unique plot. True to the series, the female lead is strong and formidable, offering the reader a nice change of pace from the usual alpha male seen in this genre. The book offers a quick, easy read chocked full of intrigue and suspense. Loved it. 5 stars.

A lovely sequel to Hidden Hearts and I look forward to the last book in the trilogy, Stolen Hearts. Former police officer, Eva Thompson, works as an investigator for Hearts Investigative Services. She is petite, but well trained and strong. She is investigating an illegal hidden camera found in a woman’s condo with the unwanted backup of her former lover, Joshua Simmons, the county coroner. She broke up with him due to his constant concern about the dangers of her job. I loved the fact that she was the “kickass” protector of this duo and although he was extremely intelligent, he was not the normal protective male that is usually portrayed in romances. His dialog, both out loud and in his thoughts, was laugh out loud funny at times and he was an endearing and lovable character. They made a terrific couple as they worked together to uncover the illicit happenings at the condos. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. **I voluntarily read an early copy of this title courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

I've become a fan of Marci Bolden over the last year and this series definitely is my favorite of hers so far. I loved the first book in "The Women of Hearts" series and I was anxiously awaiting this one and it certainly did not disappoint!

Eva Thompson is a former cop and one of the PI's at HEARTS. When a new case comes in and Eva fits the description of the victims, it's determined she'll embed at the condo building to try to get closer to the residents to gather clues and possible evidence. The only problem is that it is also determined that she needs backup and the thing that makes the most sense is making her half of a couple, however she recently broke up with Josh, her former boyfriend because he didn't believe in her and her abilities as a PI.

Josh Simmons is the coroner and he works with the ladies at HEARTS quite a bit. Not only that, but he and Eva recently ended their relationship, even though that was the last thing he wanted. He's still in love with her and would do anything to get her back. Knowing that Eva needs help, Josh is more than willing to move in with his former girlfriend, not only to help her catch the culprit, but also to be able to spend more time with her and maybe find a way to get her back.

The case that Eva and Josh caught kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Eva was definitely a woman to be reckoned with and Josh was one of those guys that was willing to put himself in danger for the woman he loves.

Marci Bolden did a great job of crafting a story that not only kept me guessing, but the twists and turns, along with all of the layers were fantastic. I'm so looking forward to the next book in this series as I'm certain it will be just as good as the first two.

I will review on Amazon or B&N on Oct 29, 2019

I received the ARC of Burning Hearts from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion of the book.

The second book of the Women of Hearts series was just as good as the first book was, I have enjoyed finding a new author for me to read. Although this is part of a series the book could still be read as a stand alone book. Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres and I enjoy when they have a strong women in the book. Although I really liked Eva for me Josh is not exactly the kind of man I would picture someone as strong as Eva with. Overall the book is well written and a good read.

Another 5 Star suspenseful romance from Ms Bolden!

Eva is an ex-cop and now a PI with HEARTS ... where she can be appreciated for her skills. Josh is a coroner who consults with the ladies at the PI firm. After a brief affair, Eva breaks up with Josh because he doesn’t believe she can handle herself ... but a month later, he’s still in love with her. So when a spycam is found in a condo unit of luxury high rise, Eva is to move into an empty unit to find the culprit. But her boss won’t let her go on the case alone, so Josh volunteers to move in with her.

I loved the first book in this series and this one is no different. I love that Eva is a badass in a pint-sized body. And it sure is a nice change that the male lead is not the regular possessive alpha. I loved that Josh is just this nerd that’s so in love with Eva that he’s willing to put himself in harm’s way ... just for her. The twists and turns in this book will have you saying WTF! Even though this book is a suspenseful romance, the realistic banter between the characters made me laugh. I laughed so hard when Josh thought he had been on the treadmill for an hour when it had been 6 minutes. This is a great addition to the series and shouldn’t be missed!

This is a romantic suspense with good characters and twist and turns, intrigue, suspense and danger and I really enjoyed it. This is the second book in this series and I am looking forward to reading more. I have read many of Marci's books and I have enjoyed reading every single one. She is an amazing author and talented writer and I definitely recommend you read this book and others by her.

I loved the first book in this series and was looking forward to this one. As with the first book, the suspenseful storyline kept me on the edge of my seat; it was very well written. I must admit, though, that the romance in this one fell a little flat for me. I liked Eva a lot, but I struggled to like Josh, and I didn't feel the same chemistry between the two of them that I felt with Holly and Jack in the first book. Nonetheless, the story itself is original and captivating--certainly an enjoyable way to escape for a while.

Thank you to NetGalley and Pink Sand Press for providing an ARC for review.

From Colette Dixon to Marci Bolden I am very happy on my reading choices today. Both authors are amazing and have immense talent to string stories with likeable characters. The plots are fast moving enough to keep the reader interested but not rushed to give them headaches. It is a perfect blend making it a pleasant read through and through.

I love ladies of HEARTS and I would love to work with an all female crowd like that (unfortunately my current employment is all male except for me. I’m not complaining but I don’t mind a female figure once in a while). The work done by HEARTS seem truly fun albeit the dangers and the women in it just sound cool (please pardon my childish proclaims). If you’re a fan of the other books in the series, you would surely love this. We even get cameos by both Holly and Jack.
