I liked this book, the mystery was very challenging with unique characters and a diabolical plot. Although it was slow in the beginning, and it continued to be very drawn out. I received an advanced reader's copy from Netgalley for an honest review. |
Love this series. Jaymie has her college friends come to stay with her for a week at her family's cottage. The 2nd night they were there someone is murdered. jaymie sets out to find the murderer before they strike again. Read the book to hear more. |

Jaymie plays host to several college girlfriends for a vacation-reunion. As expected, murder tags along. Jaymie enlists current girlfriends to help investigate and finds her college mates a little different, in some ways, than she remembers. The 9th entry in the Vintage Kitchen Mysteries is an excellent example of Victoria Hamilton’s skill as she inserts the reader right in the middle of the story. Ms. Hamilton paints a very believable experience of getting together with old friends under the stress of an unexpected murder. Again, plenty of twists and a steady pace. An entertaining break for cozy readers. |

Jaymie is hosting a girls-only reunion of her college roommates while her husband and stepdaughter are in Poland visiting relatives. One friend brings an unannounced friend, two friends are having marriage problems, one friend is in a writing funk, and most of them are not getting along. Jaymie begins to remember that it wasn’t always fun times with the roommates and questions how much they have changed. A local handyman, involved with several women, is murdered and Jaymie is worried one of her friends may be involved. Jaymie is a people-pleaser and her view of her friends seems rather biased. She finally faces the truth and comes to appreciate her friends...though in smaller doses! She appreciates her friends and her life more than ever. |

Last year I had a girls only College roommate reunion, and it was much more joyful than Jaymie's. The expert writing of Victoria Hamilton led me down a path of suspects yet I was completely surprised by the outcome. These characters and their heartaches seem real and the emotions engendered have stayed with me. 'Cast Iron Alibi' is another hit in the A Vintage Kitchen Mystery series! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own. |
This has easily become one of my top favorite series with my favorite character. Jaymie has joined my list of top five favorite characters. She's grown so much in this series and I'm anxious to see what happens with her next! In Cast Iron Alibi, Jaymie is preparing for a vacation with her old friends. Usually they go camping, but do to unforseen events, the group of friends end up staying at the family cottage, giving Jaymie the opportunity to show off the vintage camper she restored. After saying a teary goodbye to husband and daughter, Jaymie watches them take off for a trip to Poland, giving Jocie the chance to visit with family. Jaymie is excited to see her old friends, but has no idea that this reunion is going to end in tragedy. I found myself escaping deep into the story, rolling my eyes and gasping in astonishment. These ladies are each going through their own personal crisis, but when one friend crosses the line, all bets are off and it's each woman for herself. This story showed Jaymie in a much stronger, independent role, and I was so impressed with her. I loved how she would not back down from comments about being Jocie's mom, this little family has become such a fun part of this series. I highly recommend this book and the series, you will not be disappointed. #NetGalley #CastIronAlibi |
Hamilton has done it again. She knocked it out of the cozy mystery genre with Cast Iron Alibi. First, the cover is divine. It makes even me, who detests camping, want to spend a night in the trailer. Jaymie has planned a shecation with her friends from college while her family is in Europe. Except it's not what she had Invisioned. Her friends have changed and some not for the better. As acrimony builds and problems abound, a fire kills a local Lothario. As Jaymie digs for answers she uncovers some horrible truths that she really didn't want to know. Hamilton weaves a web of characters that takes skill to discern along with the main plot and subsidiary plots. I'm impatiently waiting for the next book to be released. |
Jaymie and her college friends are getting together for a camping trip, just like old times. While she is sad to send her husband and daughter off to visit family in Poland, she is excited to spend some time with her college buddies, until she remembers just how challenging a few of those women can be. When party girl Brandi is focused on hooking up with hot guys, Jaymie connects some dots and believes Brandi is hooking up with a local contractor. When the contractor is murdered, Jaymie begins to suspect her friend, or her jealous husband may be guilty. Where do you draw the line between being loyal to your friends and doing the right thing? Jaymie needs to figure that out before the wrong man is put away for murder. I adore this series and the latest entry is just as solid as the others in the series. Now I’m longing for some girl time with my old college buddies. Maybe we’ll have to set up a clamping trip next Summer and hope our time together is far more relaxing. |

I always look forward to meeting up with Jaymie in this series, with it's interesting bits of vintage. Throw in old memories, friends, unexpected guess, and a husband with stalkerish tendencies, she certainly has her hands full in this book. Another great addition to the series. |
Superspeed readers like me can read 150 - 200+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. LOL I received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸. In the new Vintage Kitchen Mystery from the author of Breaking the Mould, when an over-amorous handyman is found murdered, Jaymie will have to use every tool at her disposal to nab the culprit . . . Looking forward to her girls-only college reunion vacation, Jaymie’s on cloud nine at the idea of lazy trips to the beach, dinner cruises on the nearby river, and snug sleeping in the vintage trailer she’s renovated. But no sooner does the group reconnect than her hopes turn to tension as petty squabbles and old acrimonies surface, along with tagalong friends, unexpected guests, and stalkerish ex-husbands. And when a local toolbelt Romeo with an eye for one of the women is found murdered, his home ablaze, the simmering hostility in the group suddenly shifts to secrecy. Local law enforcement is zeroing in on the victim’s best friend and girlfriend as the most likely suspects, but Jaymie’s inquisitive instincts are telling her one of her former classmates may have been involved in the foul deed. Forced to navigate her fraught relationship with a local police detective and determined to uncover the myriad secrets her college friends are hiding, Jaymie knows she’ll have to dig deep to figure out whose alibi is cast iron, and whose is flimsy as tin . . . Includes a vintage recipe! What a delightful way to spend an hour (or many in your case ... I can read 250-300 pages/hour so I am a zippy reader!) I loved the premise and the characters and the mystery well-formed. This book makes me want to go back and read all of Miss Hamilton's books as it was totally enjoyable. The fact that there was a trailer on the front cover made me knew I would love THAT kind of camping - I am so not an indoors person, to say the least! As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "Social Influencer Millennials" on Instagram and Twitter) so let's give it 🏕 🏕 🏕 🏕 🏕 |
