I just loved this book! Many of the stories Sheila shared really resonated with me on a deeply personal level. I also really liked the practical applications that she offers for getting your prayer life back on track and believing God. If you’ve struggled with your prayer life or believing God hears your prayers like I have, I definitely recommend this book.

For anyone woman who struggles with prayer, this is a must have book for your reading shelf. Sheila walks us through how to pray and how to keep on persevering through pain, when God is silent, how to pray in the power of God and even how to pray when our battle is finished and we stand victorious.
This is a book I will keep by my favorite quiet place for years to come. It has changed the way I think of prayer and how I think of my relationship with Him.

"When you have a relationship with Jesus, prayer isn't something you do; it's who you are."

I received this book from baker Books and Netgalley and I was not required to write a positive review..

This book was such an encouraging read. I have shared this with all of the women closest to me. Thank you, Sheila for writing a book that speaks to all women, the challenges that we face, and that Jesus is the the way we can overcome hardship.

Are you a praying woman? Do you want to be? Have you made a statement “I’m going to pray more!” We all have been there and done that. Sheila helps you take the awkwardness out of prayer and just start. That’s were we all need to go - just start. There are no secrets, no methods, or sacred words you Have to use for prayer to work. You just talk/pray to God it’s kinda like your talking to your best friend because you Are talking to him!!!

Praying doesn’t come easily for many people. In Praying Woman, Sheila Walsh explores 10 areas that people can focus on to have a richer prayer life. While the book focuses on women, the tips could really be used by anyone. One big tip is to use the Bible to pray, especially using the Psalms. She also discusses how to pray when it’s hard, when you don’t know what to say and when it seems God is silent.

The title of this book expresses the sentiments that so many of us Christian women face, “How do you pray when you don’t know what to say?” Through her own struggles with prayer, Sheila writes from an approachable and relatable standpoint, sharing her own struggles and realizations about prayer with her readers. Whether you feel intimidated by prayer, or just simply feel like you are praying and it’s falling on deaf ears, Sheila will change your perspective on the concept of prayer. Through her book, the author reminds us that we don’t need to get the words just right, instead we should just start talking, God is listening.

There weren’t any earth shattering secrets on how to pray when you don’t know what to say. However, the author did share several helpful tips on how to pray such as praying scripture particularly the Psalms which you can learn about in her book Praying Woman. A helpful tip for those that find their prayers repetitive or struggle with what to say.

For me, this book wasn’t big on strategies but was super helpful in breaking down the mindset shift that often hold us back from praying and ultimately praying with confidence. The biggest myth of them all, “I can’t pray”. Instead of looking for perfect words, the author reminds us to come to God just as we are, God isn’t looking for perfect people. The enemy will do whatever he can to hinder us and hold us back from praying.

There were quite a few quotes from the book that really hit home for me. I will share them with you below, and I hope you will truly reflect on them with your prayer life in mind.

“In prayer, it is better to have a heart without words than words without heart. ” John Bunyon

“Is prayer your spare tire or your steering wheel? Is it the thing that guides you through every moment in life or something you turn to in an emergency?”

“When you have a relationship with Jesus, prayer isn’t something you do; its who you are.”

If limiting beliefs are holding you back from Praying with confidence, this book is for you. This book will challenge you to think about prayer in a whole new way and show you how to become the strong woman of prayer I know that you can be.

A wonderful guide on giving you the words to pray when you are unsure what to say. Many scriptural references with life examples. If you have ever heard Sheila speak, you can hear her voice in the stories that are given. A great gift for those you love.

A well-written book, reminding us to talk with God. To have our say, but more importantly to listen to and for God.

What a great book! I love how the author writes about a topic that is very intimidating to me and helps me understand in such a simplistic way! Reading Praying for woman, I felt like I was conversing with a friend who really understands me! Prior to reading this book, I felt like I wasn’t educated or Christian enough to really pray. Sheila Walsh taught me many things in this book. One of the most important things I learned was I could just talk to Jesus! I didn’t have to speak certain words or in a special way for Jesus to hear my prayers. He just wants to hear from me! He loves everything about me! He just wants to hear from me. How exciting is that!?!
So many, just need to read this book to understand the simplicity and the power of praying!

I was so excited when I found out Sheila had written a book on prayer. God wants us to talk to Him. Even when we don’t know what to say, we can simply pray: “help”. This book has helped me to understand that prayer isn’t as difficult as it seems. I look forward to sharing it with friends.

Great book about the value of prayer. Sheila gets personal in her struggles and shows how she used prayer in her own life, both for comfort and for power.

It is nice to read a book on prayer that is down to earth. Sheila Walsh comes across as very real and honest. I really enjoyed her writing style in this book. I also appreciated the helps that were added at the end of the chapters. I am looking forward to doing a more in depth study of this book.

Wow! I really needed to read this book!
This is not a book of prayers... it is not going to fix your prayer life.. it will greatly encourage you to pray and to pray with all that is in you no matter if it's something small or the hardest moment of your life!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the Launch Team on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.

“…He (God) sat with me, comforted me, and welcomed me home to His heart because He had loved me all along” (page 41). Do you want to be a praying woman? Most of us do; it is one of the ways to grow closer to the God who loves us. Sheila Walsh shares why so many of us are challenged with praying, covering my fears and hindrances well. She tells us how to grow beyond those challenges and how she has done so. Each chapter begins with a quote about prayer from a classic Christian author and a pertinent scripture verse and ends with “Prayer Reminders” and a prayer.

This beautiful, thoughtful, encouraging book about prayer and praying is written for every woman. It is written with this gifted Bible teacher’s trademark transparency, gentleness, and wit, with principles referenced in scripture. She does not preach; it is more like chatting over coffee with a dear friend to savor this book. Sheila Walsh uses illustrations from her own life, including some humorous and some of the most painful. This honesty is refreshing and as much of a blessing now as when I read some of her earlier books sharing how the Lord has been with her through depression.

Prayer was one of the most important things in Christ’s life on earth as well as since He returned to heaven, which is one thing I had not considered for quite some time. It is also important enough that the Holy Spirit helps us with prayer. For me, that has included a conviction that I need to pray more – but how to pray both more and better?

Subjects I found most critical in this season include persevering in prayer, praying when it is hardest to pray or when it seems God is silent, praying the Word of God (specifically through Psalms, and how Jesus prayed from various Psalms), praying through dressing in our armor daily as well as praying in our armor, and praying through Christ’s victory. Re-learning who I am in Christ, and finding my confidence in Him, not myself. How “Praying women pray through their heartache until it becomes their authority.” That I am changed, whether or not my circumstances are. Even though the Lord knows my needs, He, like Aslan in The Magician’s Nephew, likes to be asked. Ultimately, just how much God loves me and has compassion for me.

Praying Women can be read by new and seasoned Christian women. Every concept regarding prayer is backed up by scripture, and stories from both the Old and New Testaments are included. The scriptures, of course, are most important. The experiences of the author are secondary, yet important to a woman’s heart as we see that we are not alone in how we feel. The author’s love for the Lord is evident on every page, as is her love for Christians. This is the kind of book one gets a copy of for themselves – to read, savor, learn from, and re-read – as well as purchase as gifts for other women in our lives. Even if you glean only one nugget of truth today, you might find one another time. I highly recommend it! God wants to hear from you!

From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this from the publisher and NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

Sheila has written this amazing book to guide us through how to pray when we don't know what to say. And not only that, she teaches you how to pray from a position of confidence and strength instead of fear and anxiousness. If you are stuck this book is for you. Sheila has an amazing way of pointing you back to the Lord. Do not hesitate to purchase this book. You will be glad you did. Your prayer life will grow exponentially.

I’ve always wondered if my prayers were adequate, especially when I don’t see the answers I seek. Jesus addressed using lots of words and wailing to make a public spectacle of yourself. Sometimes I’ve wondered if my prayers are too wordy or too scripted or too repetitive or too fill-in-the-blank. However, after reading an advanced copy of Sheila Walsh’s new book, I have hope that I can prayer effectively, wherever and whenever and however I have occasion to do so. Sheila reassures the reader, “Whatever your challenge is, let me remind you that God is not looking for perfect words or perfect people. He just wants our hearts.” What a reassurance! If you’ve ever struggled in your prayer life, let this book reassure you as well.

Sheila has a way of pointing us not to her but our God through her beautiful books. I felt so encouraged and enthused to deepen my prayer life with our Lord and to keep persisting in the prayers that have not been answered.

She gives the reader tools to pray but doesn't' leave you there. Sheila reminds us throughout her book, God desires a relationship with us, and prayer is the way. We solely need to start where we are.

She had me laughing aloud, with her stories, especially the one where she knocked out her tooth and had to speak.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to deepen their prayer life.

An answer when you don't know what to say in your prayer
Best-selling author Sheila Walsh wants to give an answer to the question: "Do you ever find it hard to pray and don't know what to say?" in her newest book "Praying Women. How to Pray When You Don't Know What to Say", published by Baker Books. She divided the book into ten chapters: 1) Pray When You Don't Know What to Say, 2) Pray Because God is Waiting for You, 3) Pray ... and Don't Give Up, 4) Pray Hardest When It's Hardest to Pray, 5) Pray Through Your Pain, 6) Pray When God Seems silent, 7) Pray with the Power of the Word of God, 8) Pray with Your Armor On, 9) Pray When You Need a Breakthrough, and 10) Pray from a Place of Victory. Walsh also states that "We have made prayer far too complicated. Prayer is simply talking with and listening to the One who is crazy in love with you (p.19)." This statement alone should challenge readers to take this book into their hands, read it, and apply it to their lives.
Walsh is raw and honest in her treatment of the topic of prayer. She includes personal experiences with prayer, is open about her struggles. In her writing she addresses herself directly to the readers.
Every chapter starts with a quote and a Bible verse that is related to the specific topic treated in this chapter. Walsh closes every chapter with prayer reminders and "A Prayer when ... (e.g., "you're not giving up", "it's hard to pray", "you're in pain"). In reality "Praying "Women" is a book for everyone who struggles with prayer and not only for women and as such also a valuable present for all who struggle with prayer. The book includes also notes that help to verify statements and can be used for further study. I highly recommend it as a valuable tool for prayer.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
