Much as I adore Mary Kubica books, this one didn’t quite work for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a real page turner with plenty of tension throughout but the main twist was predictable and a little bit overused nowadays and made me go “Really?!?!” when finally confirmed. Plot was good, setting was brilliant but could have been used to greater effect. This book could have been so much better but just fell somewhat below my expectations after such a promising start.

I admit I have sat on this review because there were some parts that I really, really enjoyed. But, the one huge twist I guessed pretty early on, and because of this I just couldn't get on board with what was happening. So, I've decided to go straight down the middle and go for a three star rating.
Let's start with the good. We start with the family moving into the house of their deceased sister/sister-in-law/aunt. This is not a move that Sadie particularly wants to make. She is going to have to act as a surrogate mother to the niece that hates her, the house is on an island in an established community, her sister-in-law killed herself into the house that they are moving into and there are tensions that exist in their own family unit that are only going to become more stressful in an unfamiliar environment. When a nearby neighbour is brutally murdered and her work colleagues are less than welcoming, Sadie really begins to regret the move. The creepy pervasive feeling of the house, the resentment directed towards her by Imogen and the winter weather creates an eerie claustrophobic atmosphere that really adds to the tension that is already at a discomforting level thanks to Sadie being such an unreliable narrator.
However, I had quickly guessed the likely outcome of who was responsible for the murder. I'm treading carefully here so not to spoil the mystery, but I will say that I found it highly unlikely that the person would not have received any support from friends/family/employer/etc... and questions would not have been asked about their behaviour. There were reasons given why this was not the case, but I just didn't buy it.
My thanks go to the publishers and Net Galley for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.

Although overall I enjoyed this, there were times it felt a little flat for me. Saying that, it is a page turner and deserves to be called that but I think I just failed to connect with the characters.. I just wasn't engaged with them as I should be.
It is very well written and an easy read and I loved the story. From reading other reviews, its definitely a recommended read.
Thank you HQ and NetGalley.

Wow ,fantastic book absolutely loved it , couldn’t put it down from start to finish. Great to see a shout out to Fybromyalgia, the disease I have , showing the pain and exhaustion involved in this condition. I loved the characters and the setting . Nothing I can say bad about this book .This is the first I’ve read from this author but it won’t be the last

After his sister dies Will Foust, his wife Sadie and their two boys move into her home to look after his teenage niece. Things don’t go well from the start. This is a family with many problems and split loyalties.
When a neighbour is murdered Sadie feels unsafe and decides to find out who the killer is.
This is a thriller with many twists and turns, some of them unbelievable.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Mary Kubica is a new author to me however I would now, read more of her books!! A physiological thriller as told from the prospective of 4 different people

Another thrilling book from Mary Kubica. Her writing seems to get better every new book. I haven't read many of her books but this is my favourite. Slow to get going but with a very chilling finish.

I have read all of Mary Kubica’s books and in my humble opinion this may be her best yet. Following the death of Will’s sister he has guardianship of his teenage niece Imogen and moves his family though to a Maine to live with her. Imogen is less than welcoming to the family, particular Sadie the wife and then the icing on the cake, one of the neighbours is murdered in her home. I was enjoying reading this and then about a third through it seemed to move up a gear and became unputdownable. While I was reading it I was thinking it would make a great movie and lo and behold I read that Netflix are doing just that. This one really needs to be read as soon as possible as when folk start talking about it (and trust me they will) there's good chance of spoilers. Fabulously twisty and highly recommended.

Wow!! Another great book by Mary Kubica. Gripping from the start, so many plot twists and details that will make you read it all in a sitting! This book is dark, unsettling and an amazing psychological thriller! With three narrators, that may not always be reliable - but really well constructed characters - it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I loved Mouse’s perspective!
The descriptions are to the point and it feels so atmospheric that I found myself completely involved in the scenes. The book is fast paced although it slows a bit in the middle - and then it only gets better again! The writing is really compelling so it will still be difficult to put this book down.
There were some twists that I expected to happen but there were much more that just kept me re-reading it in disbelief!
The only reason I haven’t given it 10 out of 10 is because there is a part involving the medical field that I didn’t find as believable but I still find that overall this book is sensational!
I can’t wait for another book by Mary Kubica! And not only I highly recommend this one, I recommend all her previous books too - start with The Good Girl and you will want to read them all!

Mary Kubica is anew author to me. I enjoyed this book so much that I will be looking out for her other work. Highly recommended .

I really enjoyed this book so much. It has a really great plot, superb main characters and I read it in one sitting. I would highly recommend this book.

The Other Mrs is a solid addition to Mary Kubica's works. Here she brings us a solid, dark psychological thriller with well fleshed-out characters. The story will keep readers on the edge of their seats with the fast-paced plot. Highly recommended to readers who enjoy Kubica. Be sure to check out The Other Mrs ASAP!

#TheOtherMrs #NetGalley
Dark and unbearably tense with a shocking ending.
Sadie and Will moved to Maine from Chicago for a fresh start. Will had an affair in. Chicago and Sadie couldn't bear that.
With their two children, Otto and Tate, they came to a New house in Maine which was the house of Will's sister Alice who died unexpectedly leaving behind her sixteen years old daughter, Imogen. Imogen didn't want them to stay in her house, she hated Sadie the most.
In their neighborhood, a woman named Morgan Baines found dead being stabbed five times brutally leaving Sadie in tension to think that there's a killer in their midst.
Camille is obsessed with Will's love and she'd followed him to Maine and witnessed a murder.
Who's the murderer of Morgan Baines? Why the killer killed her? Who is Camille really? Are will and Sadie telling the truth? Read this awesome psychological thriller to know. Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy of this brilliant psychological thriller.
Characters were awesome and are able to force you to read until you turn the last page.
Narration of the story is brilliant and engaging.
A must read. Highly recommended.

Another great read by Mary Kubica. The plot is dark, disturbing and makes the perfect domestic noir. The ending is fabulous and hits you with a unexpected twist. I’d definitely recommend this one.

I’ve read a few book by Mary Kubica before and so am delightful to have received this ARC. I did enjoy this psychological thriller although I have one to two reservations. Will Foust inherits a house and a niece (Imogen, who he knows little about) from his sister, Alice. She had committed suicide, unable to live with the pain of fibromyalgia anymore. Will his doctor wife Sadie and their two boys Otto and Tate, relocate from Chicago to an island off the coast of Maine. They find that Imogen is a cold, rebellious girl and difficult to like however, what teenage would necessarily welcome complete strangers into their homes with open arms? The island community is small and tight knit and they are rocked to the core when Morgan Baines, a neighbour of the Fousts is murdered. The police look at Sadie as a possible suspect as she has been seen arguing with Morgan. Sadie is drawn into the mystery and tries to discover the truth. What unfolds is twisty and intriguing. The story is principally told by Sadie who is a rather cool personality, Camille who is a complete fruitcake with zero boundaries and Mouse who is 6 years old and a very clever little girl.
The best elements in the book for me is the creepy, old fashioned, dilapidated house, Imogen’s coldness and the island itself. The latter creates a sense of being cut off from reality, there’s a feeling of being trapped especially as inclement weather can prevent you leaving. Islanders are insular and can be aloof to strangers and this adds an additional dimension. The story unfolds well although I think there is a bit of a slump in the middle. Apart from Mouse and Tate the characters are not especially likeable but they are most certainly not bland! There are some good twists although I had figured out some of it but not all by any means and there is a good amount of tension. I can’t say that I am totally convinced by the ending as it seems a bit convenient.
Overall, an intriguing thriller, that has some tension, suspense, unlikeable characters, twists and turns that should please fans of this genre.
Many thanks to NetGalley and HQ Stories, Harper Collins for the ARC.

Sadie and her family have left Chicago for an isolated house in Maine for a fresh start, following a torturous few months. Sadie struggles with the isolation and the hard task of developing a relationship with her teenage niece who seemingly wants nothing to do with her extended family. When Sadie’s neighbour is murdered, she begins to suspect that bad luck may follow her family wherever they go. Or is there something much more sinister going on?
Holy Moly what have I just read? And in the space of one night I might add. This book was amazing. Dark, creepy and terribly threatening, I loved it and barley stopped for breath with each chapter. I thought I’d guessed the twist but then I was hit with another and another. Brilliant. Highly recommended xxxxx

Mary Kubica's latest psychological thriller is beautifully written, a dark, tense and unsettling novel of murder and madness. Sadie, a doctor and her professor husband, Will, move from Chicago to a small coastal town in Maine with their two children, looking for a new start after marital problems. Will has inherited an old, dilapidated and creepy house from his sister, who committed suicide in the house. They are now guardians to his niece, Imogen, an unsurprisingly angry and troubled teen who has just lost her mother and struggling to cope. Their lives are turned upside down when soon after arriving, their neighbour, Morgan Blaine, is found brutally murdered, stabbed to death. Finding herself under suspicion by the police, Sadie decides to look into the murder herself as her life spirals out of control.
This has all the requisite elements of the psychological thriller, nothing should be taken at face value, inhabited by unlikeable and unreliable narrators, a host of suspects, and twists galore. Sadie has memory issues and a tendency to blame others, even her children, and wonders if Will was involved with Morgan, or is it possible that Morgan's husband killed her? There is a stalker to add to the mix, the beautiful and volatile Camille, obsessed with Will, feeling she has a prior claim on him, and intent on becoming his wife. 6 year old Mouse's widowed father has married a nightmare of a woman. In an atmospheric narrative, with the weather conditions deteriorating, the locals are suspicious of the incomers, there is intrigue, machinations, secrets and mental health issues. This is a dark, unsettling and entertaining thriller, with plenty of suspense and tension, to keep the reader hooked right up to end, although you are required to suspend your sense of disbelief. Many thanks to HQ for an ARC.
