A Katie Fforde book set in the spring is perfect for these dark, February days. This author always seems to write books that draws me in from the first few pages with characters who are realistic but always with enough reality to stop them from becoming silly. Always enjoyable and always highly recommended. |

What better way to avoid all the doom and gloom than to read a Katie Fforde book and one full of bright, optimism and spring cheer. Spring always heralds new beginnings and it is no different it seems for mother and daughter Gilly and Helena. Gilly is happy with running her bespoke B & B she enjoys the work and meeting people and embraces the little touches that make her establishment stand out from the rest - like homemade shortbread! Leo though arrives in her life rather unexpectedly and his chosen career of estate agent might come in useful if Gilly decides to move on. Helena is about to lose her home and whilst she knows that she can go home, her weaving loom does take up rather a lot of room. When a chance encounter to help new landlord Jago leads to some interesting events, it seems that Jago is a chance encounter worth pursuing. In the meantime, Helena's brother Martin and obsessive wife Cressida have other ideas about how Gilly should be spending her days. They seem rather in conflict in the way Gilly wants to spend them. Helena is also struggling to see the image of her mother that Martin is trying to portray. Surely the new blossoms of spring will come to fully bud and the dead weeds will disappear forever? This is a joyous book which takes you through family dynamics and new love. Added to this is the delicious recipes of Gilly and the wonderful creations of Helena's weaving which make this a true Katie Fforde book. |
This was a delightful story with people coping with what life throws at them and making something which everyone can enjoy. Some really appealing characters and a storyline that couldn't put down. |

I love Katie Fforde's novels, they are like a Mum hug in book form, guaranteed to make you feel better and warm inside. Also I always learn something new from them, in this case, I now feel much more informed about weaving, which I always feel is an added bonus and I love a happy ending especially in these challenging times so this novel is pretty much perfect. Highly recommend, especially if you need a bit of a lift. |

Loved this book, yet another great Katie Fforde book. Different storylines and relationships are explored and it’s fun to try and be one step ahead to guess the outcome. Easy to read and follow with characters you grow to love or hate. Thanks Katie and NetGalley. |
Nice, heartwarming escapism, but not my favourite. I wasn't in love with the characters this time and found some of it quite unconvincing. It just didn't gel with me this time but I'm sure I'll read Katie Fforde again in the future. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-copy in exchange for an honest review. |
Katie Fforde is one of my favourite authors and I’ve loved every single one of her books. This one did not disappoint! A warm, cosy read but extremely well-written. It had me hooked from the first few pages, which is always a good sign. I really enjoyed A Springtime Affair and would highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley, Random House UK and Cornerstone for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review. |

I love how every time I read a Katie Fforde book I come away having learnt about a new profession or craft. In the case of A Springtime Affair it is weaving on looms, which I can honestly say is something I have never considered or given any thought to in the past. Yet in this novel it sounded really lovely and something that if I ever had time to take up a craft could be interesting to look into - silk weaving that is due to being allergic to wool! I enjoyed Helena and Jago's newfound friendship, Jago sounds like a real keeper, he is just so caring towards Helena and animals, I really enjoyed their dynamic, and I was also really impressed with Helena's special skill, which doesn't seem to give her much pleasure but does have some interesting applications. Then there is Helena's mum Gilly, who is a real feeder, there is a lot of food in this book - and she is being pressured by her son, Martin, to sell her B&B and use most of the money on funding Martin a new house. Which Gilly isn't really sure about, and then she meets slick tongued property valuer Leo, and they really hit it off. There is a lot of various plot lines weaved into this merry tale, and I really enjoyed all of them, and seeing just what is in Jago and Leo's pasts. And there is the new hobby that Gilly becomes interested in, which was exhilarating to read about. This is just what I have come to expect from the author, a warm and cosy story that I really did enjoy. Thank you to Cornerstone and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.. |
A sumptuously, gratifying comfort read. This book doesn’t disappoint. Adorable characters, some twists and turns and a satisfying ending. Books don’t get much better than Katie Ffordes and this one lives up to its predecessors. Fabulous read. I just wish I could read it all again for the first time. Thank you Netgalley |

I really enjoyed this book but was a bit disappointed with the end. I felt it ended a bit abruptly. However I would recommend reading it especially if you are a fan of Katie Fforde |
Good storyline. great charcters, the story flowed really well, and it was a fun read. I sat and read this in the garden and it was a great way to while away an afternoon. |

I loved the book. I read it, sat in the garden in the sun. The nearest thing to a holiday read during lockdown. Thank you so much |

I enjoy Katie Fforde's writing even if this book made me hungry all the time! What better was to enjoy it than with a biscuit or three ;) I did prefer Helena's storyline a little but enjoyed them both and was rooting for both women to get their happy endings. |
