Couldn't put this book down, had nightmares about it as well. It was so descriptive. A thriller with lots of twists, working it all out and great outline of the characters fitting them all into a fab story.

I usually love a thriller, and so when I saw You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen on Netgalleys, I had to request. I’d heard loads of good things about their other books, and I was excited to get this, so thanks @netgalley and @panmacmillan.

Unfortunately this wasn’t as edge-of-your-seat, un-put-downable as I expected. The story follows Shay, a woman who witnesses Amanda jump in front of a subway train and quickly becomes embroiled in Amanda’s life- finding and becoming friends with her friends, moving into her apartment and becoming part of a more sinister plot. I found the plot to be quite far fetched, and all the characters were unlikable, I found Shay to be obsessive and clingy and the Moore sisters to be vapid and bitchy.

If you read and enjoyed the other books by these authors, then maybe you will enjoy this more than me, but this book just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Thank you to Netgalley, Green Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanen and Pan Macmillan for my arc of You Are Not Alone in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis: Shay has always been obsessed with statistics. That's what makes her a great analyst. But when she loses her job, her housemate gets a girlfriend and pushes her out and to top it off she has a traumatic experience when she witnesses a woman committing suicide on the subway, Shay desperately needs help and comfort. Enter Jane & Cassandra Moore. Friends of the deceased Amanda, they take Shay under their wing, looking after her, pampering and filling the void that is her loneliness. They're the perfect friends. Or are they?

This was a great read from the authors of The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl both of which I have previously read and enjoyed. A good twisty thriller and while I saw some of what was coming there were some surprises in store too! Shay's character was unusual but interesting and I was rooting for her all the way. I'd definitely pick up the next book from these authors.

I was lucky enough to get sent a copy of ‘You Are Not Alone’, the new release by duo Hendricks and Pekkanen before its publication date, in exchange of course for an honest review 🤓📚 Oh woah, my first book by this incredible duo and I will most certainly be picking up their previous thrillers !!!! This was an enjoyable popcorn-thriller read, super suspenseful, pretty dark with a likeable enough main character that I really warmed to (although there were moments I felt like screaming STUPID BITCH!!!!). Despite the fact there were a lot of characters/false names/stories to keep up with, when the plot and twists unravelled it all fell into place brilliantly. Believe me the storyline is fantastic !!!! My only problem was the ending which I felt needed a little more explanation - it all just sort’ve ended abruptly leaving me pretty ?!?!!!!???!!! 🧐
.
.⚠️!!There are a lot of suicide references in this book, if you feel this would upset or trigger you I’d advise not reading!!⚠️

Shay Miller is an average woman who just wants to feel like she belongs. One day, she witnesses a young woman jump in front of a train and is haunted by the idea that she could have done something to save her. As she begins to find out who this young woman was, Shay becomes involved with her closest circle of friends but everything isn’t as glamorous as it seems.

This book really makes you question loyalty, true friendship and the extremes that some people will go to to get what they want.

It’s a slow burn suspense with complex characters and multiple perspectives. I really enjoyed the addition of the statistics that Shay was obsessed with.

This is the first book I’ve read from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and I’m looking forward to reading their other books. I’ve already ordered An Anonymous Girl!

I've read the previous 2 books by these authors an loved them so it was a bo brainer that I'd read this too, and it didnt disappoint.
A lonely girl living with her friend and his girlfriend witness's a woman throw herself under a train. The effect it has on her is profound and she attends the dead woman's wake where she meets two sisters who befriend her. This new friendship gives her a new lease of life an with the sisters help she moves out of her shared apartment, changes her appearance and obtains a new job. But all is not what it seems and she is soon questioning the motives of the sisters friendship. Is their friendship genuine? Or do they have ulterior motives? And why do the police suspect she knows more than she's letting on about the suicide? Was it even a suicide at all?
Another fantastic read from these authors, I cant wait for their next book.
Thanks to Netgalley for the loan of this book.

I was a little bit hesitant in starting this book after been one of the few people who was not completely enthralled by the big selling 'The Wife between us' but my fears were soon extinguished. The more I read this book the more I got into into and although I wanted to know what was going to happen I didn't want it to finish.
Who would believe that witnessing a suicide would also threaten the life of a witness, but that is exactly what happens to Shay Miller. She was a witness to a suicide that changes her life. She gets close to friends of the dead girl, but just who is stalking who. Shay is lonely and eager to get a new life with lots of friends so is keen to get closer to the victims friends. The Moore sisters who are the friends of the victim appear to be just as keen to make friends with Shay, but why?

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to future novels from these two authors.

I would like to thank both Net Galley and Pan Macmillan for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

The previous novel by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen An Anonymous Girl peaked my interest with its plot about a single woman taking a personality test and suddenly, finding herself amidst a dangerous scheme. When starting to read their latest release, You Are Not Alone – I was aware that again, a female protagonist would be entangled in a scheme which at first sight, looks too tempting and drags her right in. Unfortunately though, at some point this core idea begins to feel a little repetitive.

Shay, a young, single woman living in New York, becomes eye witness to a suicide situation that shakes her badly. When the victim’s friends, the two glamorous sisters Cassandra and Jane Moore show interest in helping Shay out, she is filled with nothing but gratitude and accepts this support with open arms. What Shay doesn’t know is that Cassandra and Jane are not that innocent.

Leaving the repetitive part aside, I found this to be a fluent, very easy read. What makes me sad is that in certain flashback situations (childhood memories), I get the feeling that there is writing potential for a much deeper, different type of story. I wish that at some point, Hendricks & Pekkanen stepped out of their “safe zone” and found the courage to write something totally new. As I enjoy their writing style, I will keep my eyes open for their next book.

You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
My Rating 3 🌟 out of 5
Recommended if you are looking for a lighter, fluent-to-read thriller novel – simple entertainment.

Thank you to @panmacmillan & @stmartinspress for kindly sharing the Netgalley e-ARC of this novel with me.

This was a very suspenseful read in that it was quite slow to get through but did have me interested in where it was going.
I could not stop reading the last third or so of this book so i would recommend you stuck with it if you find yourself struggling in the first half.

I loved this gripping page-turner. I couldn't work out what was going on at first, but was completely drawn into this compelling story. Although Shay isn't a particularly likeable character, she is completely believable, and it is very understandable why she behaves as she does. I would recommend this book to anyone who is happy to stay up late to finish an engrossing and exciting book.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely addictive. I thought I loved 'The Wife Between Us', but in 'You Are Not Alone', Hendricks and Pekkanen have taken the psychological thriller to a whole new level. Simply gripping from the first page. This is one of those novels where you think you know where it is going, but you couldn't be more wrong. It begins with a suicide, morphs into a story about some faux female-bonding between women and ends somewhere quite unexpected, with a pulsating final denouement. 'You Are Not Alone' is a revenge story with a twist. It is a probing exploration of relations between women and an inversion of the mythical 'sisterhood'. Indeed, unlike many revenge thrillers that tend to focus on the male/female binary, this novel is emphatically about the toxic relations between women. Of course, it did not begin like this, and this is the real story of 'You Are Not Alone'. Hendricks and Pekkanen take us on an unexpected journey of good intentions gone wrong, and the moral imperatives of rough justice. The characters of Shay and the Moore sisters typify this to an extreme degree. At the core of this is the ugly face of vigilantism. The desire for revenge, for some, is all pervading. But this is not a simple story, and neither is the characterisation, which is richly complex. An engrossing story, impeccably plotted and a literal page-turner.

The deadly-duo of Hendricks and Pekkanen are still at the top of their game.

A definite hit for 2020

I was delighted to receive an ARC of this latest book by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen as I have thoroughly enjoyed their previous two books and this one certainly didn't disappoint. Shay is a lonely young woman who is looking for another job and sharing an apartment with a friend whose girlfriend is about to move in with them One day she witnesses the suicide of a young woman at the Subway and is then befriended by the woman's friends who seem to be successful and living the kind of life Shay aspires to. I thought Shay was extremely naive not to realise just how much these women were manipulating her and some of the scenarios stretched credibility somewhat but, having said that, I did enjoy reading it.

I really liked An Anonymous Girl, I wasn't as impressed with The Wife Between Us and this one was just straight up dull. Why didn't I just DNF?!

Once I overcame an early cluster of Americanisms, this Greer Hendricks book has me gripped just as the previous two had.

Told from a variety of perspectives (people and time) this compelling story follows Shay from witnessing a subway suicide through a host of twists and turns with varying degrees of statistical significance. Who are her real friends? What is motivating them to act the way they do? This is a book you will race through to its tense climax. Having completed the tale I’m now off for a banana and almond butter smoothie. Yum!

Thanks to NetGalley for a prepublication copy of this excellent manuscript.

I absolutely looooved this book! The twists and turns and the mystery kept me hooked right from the first page of the book.
I had read the author’s first book ‘The Wife Between Us’ in the past and had found it quite entertaining. But I thought this book is way better and has really upped the bar.
The main character is Shay who witnesses a woman jump in front of a train. What she does after and how she gets sucked into the life the woman left behind forms the main crux of the story.
Sarah and Greer are amazing authors and work very well together (almost like the Moore sisters from the book :-) ). Can’t wait for their next book, hope it comes out soon!
Thank you to the publishers Pan Macmillan for an advanced copy of this ebook and giving me a chance to review this fantastic book!

Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. It was ridiculously far fetched and all off the characters were so unlikable. A shame as I enjoyed previous books

I am afraid I was disappointed with this book.I didn't really take to the characters and found the pace to be too slow to keep my interest. Not for me I am afraid.

Shay Miller has a peculiar hobby, she likes statistics.
Living with Sean and his girlfriend, she struggles to land herself a permanent job and is very lonely.
But that's all about to change when she witnesses a young woman jump to her death in front of a subway train. Plagued by unwanted thoughts about the incident, she decides to go to the woman's memorial service. There she meets Cassandra and Jane, the Moore sisters, whom she soon befriends without realising that they have an ulterior motive in striking up a friendship with her.
When she finally becomes aware of it, it is too late, and the sisters' plan had already been put in motion.

This is a really gripping book that hooks you pretty quickly.
The opening chapter was, in my opinion, a little slow but I was quickly drawn in with the mystery surrounding the sisters and their circle.
The story gives you hints along the way, and even though you might quickly guess what the sisters are involved in, the twist you're presented with at the end is unexpectable.
The story was unusual, so hats off to the authors for coming up with an idea that I haven't seen widely explored.
It did remind somewhat of the TV show Dexter...
Overall it was a suspenseful and intriguing read that will keep you well entertained, and I can highly recommend it.
I have another book from the authors on my tbr shelf, and I'm excited to find out if it will be as gripping and good as this one.
