When Immi, a primary school teacher, and Dex, a photographer, apply for places in a co-living space in East London, it seems too good to be true. A converted Victorian factory with yoga studio, free meditation sessions, a stunning roof terrace, and cheap rent too: surely there's a catch? Both have their reservations about the motivations of the owners, not to mention the sometimes erratic behaviour of some of the other residents, but for reasons that only slowly unfold, both are also desperate for somewhere to live, and therefore grasp the opportunity offered by the Factory. But, as Immi's mother tells her, if things seem too good to be true, they probably are, and within a few weeks life at the Factory is proving more stressful - not to mention deadly - than your average house share.

While I didn't find the solution to the mystery entirely convincing, The House Share was a really well written and well-paced novel, with some pleasingly satirical nods to East London hipster life. Relocating the domestic noir genre from a nuclear family unit to a house share worked extremely well, and some of the less sinister difficulties facing Immi and Dex will be very familiar with anyone who's had a nightmare flat share in their 20s.

Not sure where Kate got the idea for this book but its definitely different from anything I have read and I love a good thriller .
So the rooms in this amazing house are exactly what you can afford to pay in rent and in London that's amazing.
Sounds to good to be true and for Immi & Dex the newest residents its just what they need at this time in their lives.
A couple of weeks in and are things as good as they seem , Have they gotten themselves into a cult.
Are the other residents the problem or is it Hanna the weird house keeper.
As things start to unravel it seems everyone has their own secrets,

I am a big fan of Kate Helm so I was thrilled to be able to read and review this early copy, thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity.
Immi is a primary school teacher who, following the breakdown of her relationship, finds herself homeless and sleeping on friends’ sofas. When she realises she has outstayed her welcome where she is staying, she begins her search for her own place, and comes across a place called the Factory. When Immi attends for the interview, she finds out that the current Factory residents need to approve her after a month trial period. There is another new resident, Dex, who is on a trial period at the same time as Immi.
As the book progresses, we find out that each of the Factory residents is hiding a secret, and who exactly is the mysterious Hanna, supposedly the housekeeper, who seems to know everyone’s secrets?
I really enjoyed this book, I would have loved to have read it in one sitting if I could!

I am extremely glad that I did not read this book back in the days when I had various house/flat shares! Kate Helm draws you in to the story immediately and you have a feeling of unease almost from the start. You are kept guessing right to the end, as to who is the "baddie", by being lead up several blind alleys.
Skilfully written and good use of language. It only just missed 5☆ because once or twice I lost track of whose voice I was following.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
