This was a suspenseful read and a change from my normal books (contemporary romance and historical romance). I really enjoyed the characters, the suspense and the mystery. Mary Burton has been added to my "must read" author list!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. A tense, horrifying crime story with a romance running through.. The best of both worlds with a delightful conclusion.

3.35/5 ⭐

This was a good thriller. Mary Burton knows her onions in general when it comes to this genre and it was actually a good book, even though at times (in the beginning) it was a bit confusing.
The story was good, the plotline becoming more and more enjoyable, especially in the second half, but there was something about the characters that I personally couldn't enjoy. Maybe they needed a bit more depth at parts.
Not a bad thriller at all.

There’s no rest for TBI Agent Melina Shepard as she investigates the disappearance of two women from the streets of Nashville. When the FBI and Agent Jerrod Ramsey become involved, it becomes clear that Melina is dealing with a vicious serial killer. But she barely has time to focus on finding him when a young girl is found abandoned in a car containing a gruesome surprise in the trunk - meaning Melina and Ramsey are looking for two sinks on the loose in the Music City.

This book has a lot of plot, but it’s paced really nicely, so that it doesn’t feel too overwhelming, and both cases get their due attention. There’s some good twists in there which make for some nice surprises - I certainly didn’t see the ending coming.

Melina as a character is interesting. She’s very guarded, and I felt like even as a reader, I’m still trying to get to know her, but I’d like to see more of her. She has a good heart and a really interesting backstory, so things should be really fun moving forward from hear (dun dun dun!).

The only thing that kept this from being five stars was the “romance” in the “romantic suspense” part of this book. I didn’t really get the vibe in this one necessarily. Especially with how it all played out. It was very.....robotic. Which didn’t really fit with the high energy of the rest of the book.

Overall, I look forward to seeing more Melina Shepard in the future, and recommend this book for all police procedural fans looking for a new fix.

It was just OK for me! I couldn’t get into it enough to want to sit and finish it. I slowly made it though and rate this book a 2.8! Thanks Netgalley!

Another amazing author! I can pick up every Mary Burton book and know that’s it’s good without reading the description! Every one of her stories gets better and better! She is one of my go to authors when friends ask for recommendations on what to read! She never disappoints and this one fits right in!

I really enjoyed this book! It was a solid thriller that kept me guessing. I didn't realize it was the third book in a series until I was already a decent amount into the story, but it could easily be read as a stand-alone. I would be interested to read more from Mary Burton!

I used to read a lot of thrillers, but I have been focusing on other genres lately. That said, this is the kind of thriller that makes me want to get back to reading them. It was fast-paced, interesting, and had some good twists. The only thing I wanted is a bit more information about the killer at the end (why he did what he did). Overall, it was a great read!

In this creepy tale of find the killer or be killed herself, Agenda Melinda Shepard takes a case into her own hands by going undercover. Then FBI Agent Ramsey comes onto the scene to help and they make some grizzly discoveries. The cases start to feel like they are hitting close to home as Agent Shepard realizes the murderers might be coming for her.

This thriller was good, perhaps not my favorite, but well written.

I have heard great things about Mary Burton books, so I was excited when I received this one! It didn't disappoint - "Never Look Back" is a solid thriller and a super quick read! I really enjoyed Burton's writing - reminds me a lot of Lisa Gardner's, whose books I also really enjoy. There were parts that seemed a little predictable, but there was a good shock-twist ending that I didn't see coming - which I really appreciated (as a lot of thrillers I've read recently have been completely predictable). All in all, I really liked this book and will definitely be reading more of Mary Burton's work in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley & Montlake Publishing for providing me with a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review!

I think this one is great for fans of Burton, but please make sure you read the others in the series first. I reviewed it as a standalone at first, not realizing there were two others. Because of that, I struggled to keep up with some plot points. 3 stars for the gorgeous writing and the goosebumps the creepy story gave me.

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for the ARC ebook in return for my honest review.

Agent Melina Shepard is determined to solve the disappearances of multiple women but while working the street undercover, she narrowly escapes becoming a victim of the serial killer. Needing backup, she teams up with FBI agent Jerrod Ramsey, a lone wolf, he joins forces with Melina as leads run cold and they find themselves frustrated in trying to solve the case. When called to a scene where a little girl is found abandoned, they find themselves horrified to find another crime has been committed. But does that mean there are TWO serial killers working their own agenda and MO? Jerrod and Melina quickly race against the clock as both killers are determined to stop them at whatever the cost, including Melina’s life.

NEVER LOOK BACK is a taut thriller that will keep you entertained till the very end. Ms. Burton delivers one of her best works to date with her latest book and I was drawn into the cat and mouse game both killers employ as they face off against Jerrod and Melina. The writing is tight, and the story flowed smoothly with a few twists I sure didn’t see coming. The characters kept my interest and the fact there was two killers working separately left me eager to see if Jerrod and Melina would catch them or not. I also enjoyed the subtle chemistry between Jerrod and Melina. It was quite sexy at times but also gave a depth to the storyline filled with death and killing.

Ms. Burton delivers a great mystery/suspense that will leave the reader gasping and turning the pages for more. With each page, the reader is drawn into the world of Melina and Jerrod as they battle wits with not just one serial killer, but two and with danger looming against Melina, Jerrod and Melina will be hard pressed to solve the baffling crimes. What intrigued me about this book was the two different MO’s of the killers. Seemingly different yet both kept my attention as they went about their way to get their next victim and to make sure they didn’t get caught. I love stories like this were I am forced to think and try to figure out the killers’ identities. They few revelations towards the end of the book had me in shock and I was eager to see how it would all play out in the end. NEVER LOOK BACK is a thrill ride from start to finish and you will not be disappointed if you are looking for a taut, action packed suspense story that will keep you guessing. Now I want to know is when is the next book out.

A serial killer and an agent with an agenda collide in this heart stopping thrill ride from Mary Burton!

TBI Agent Melina Shepard draws the eye of a vicious serial killer while helping out a friend. After several working girls go missing from the Bottom in Nashville, Melina volunteers to investigate. Narrowly escaping the killer's clutches herself while on a routine stakeout, she is teamed with FBI Special Agent Jerrod Ramsey to hunt the killer. Together they investigate the clues that will lead to the capture of the man who has left bodies scattered along the eastern seaboard.

But while they are hunting him, he is hunting Melina. It is a race to the end to see who catches who. first.

Mary Burton is a master of her craft, and this book is no exception. Crisp and clean, it pulls the reader in and keeps the reading into the wee hours.

3.5 Stars out of 5.

Third in the Criminal Profiler Series, but the first I’ve read by this author. Started a little slow for me but once it picked up, I flew thru it. Writing style was easy, but for some reason I had a hard time time wrapping my head around following two serial killers...kept trying to make them one in the same.

Melina Shepard is a strong female protagonist with one heck of a backstory. She goes undercover, without approval, and narrowly misses becoming a serial killers next victim. Enter Jerrod Ramsey, FBI, who evidentially has been following one of the killers, and comes in to assist. My mind had a tendency to wander off and on thru this story. Not sure if it was due to the flip flop of killers. I would have preferred one strong storyline instead of the two. Melina’s backstory was interesting and heartfelt. The romance felt rushed and thrown in. Could have used more of the tension and slower follow thru.

One a whole, enjoyable reading if you are into crime dramas. Fast paced, good character development, unique storyline.

Thanks to Ms. Burton, Montlake Romance and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.

His record is three seconds. Melina knows that she can't stop trying to find the killer and knowing now that he is out there hunting keeps her going. But will she use up all her luck with this one? Melina knows that she messed up and that her boss Agent Jackson worries about her and that she is using up all her chances with him. Now the FBI wants in on the case and she has no choice but to play nice. FBI agent Jerrod Ramsey is a killer chaser and he will stop at nothing to find them. He is driven but lonely as the job never leaves his mind. He knows that the time might come that he will need to walk away. He likes what he sees when he meets Melina but he doesn't have time for fun he is here to catch a killer. And once that is done he will go back home as he does with each case. Agent Ramsey is about to tell & show Melina how lucky she was to get away from the killer. As he is one of the worst and he has never stopped killing women but can they catch him before even more women die? The killer is coming for Melina as she is the only one that got away and he will not stop trying until he gets her. But will Ramsey be able to save the woman that he cares for?
A thrilling read. I was sucked in from the beginning.
