Full review to be published online in late July. NEVER LOOK BACK is another riveting police procedural by prolific author Mary Burton. These are always entertaining stories, learning the process these bright people go through to hunt down a madman. Melina and Ramsey work well together, feeding ideas and new intelligence to one another, and letting the facts guide them. Things get complicated, however, when a new crime occurs that ties to Melina's past and her luck. Flashing back to her childhood, we learn that she was unlucky to be abandoned on the side of a road (it was unknown then if this was a family member or someone else). She's lucky that the cop who finds her takes her under his wing and later adopts her. This flashback story eventually ties into the present day serial killer case. Good story and intriguing investigation. |
Never Look Back is book 3 in the criminal profiler series. Not having read the first two is something I will be remedying soon! I really liked this book. A well written thriller with a lot of action that kept me engaged from the start. |
Melina works for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations and is on the hunt for a killer that is targeting sex workers. However, there is someone from her past that is targeting her. A real twisty romantic suspense and a 4 star read from Burton! |
Hang on to your seats, this fast paced read. Will keep you wanting more of Jerrod and Melina. These two are thrown together to help solve two cases. Can they figure out who the culprit is. This book has several twist and turns. |

Melina Shepard is brutally attacked and almost abducted when she is working undercover as a prostitute. She pairs up with Special Agent Jarrod Ramsey (an FBI Agent from earlier books who finally has his own story) and they hunt down not one but two serial killers. It is a gritty, tense thriller with an exciting plot line and plenty of twists to throw you off track. I really love Mary Burton's books, quick paced and full of suspense. Well worth a read. Thank you for the free copy in exchange for a honest review. |

Really enjoying the criminal profiler series. In book 3 we meet Melina from the TBI and Jerrod from the FBI. Prepare for a plot within a plot and characters you will want to see again. The action moves quickly. You will get caught up in the story and want to keep reading. At the same time you won't want it to end. The writing style is smooth as if the author just has words flowing from her pen. You don't have to read books 1 and 2 before this one but you will want to enjoy them also. |

I really enjoyed reading this book. Although it was a bit different with the stories of two serial killers, it was still enjoyable. The two main characters - Melinda Shepard and Jerrod Ramsey were quite interesting. It was easy to fall into the lives of the characters - heroes and villains too! An exciting, unputdownable read... |
(4.3 Stars) A string of missing persons, and an agent on the hunt for answers! Mary Burton’s Never Look Back ignites with the brutal attack of Agent Melina Shepard, wherein, she is left covered in evidence and in search of a dangerous perpetrator with a fatal attraction! In her pursuit of this ruthless assailant, Agent Melina Shepard joins forces with fellow Agent Jerrod Ramsey. However, as the evidence begins to mount and unearth chilling discoveries, their cases unexpectedly begin to collide. The crime scenes continue to soar, as chaos ensues, a kidnapping transpires, and a gripping takedown is at hand, placing lives at stake! Captured from the very beginning, Mary Burton meticulously unraveled a riveting story with a palpating beginning, intriguing twists and turns, and a jaw dropping explosive finale! A criminal suspense, with a slight touch of romance! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. www.marvelusreads.com |
My gosh, I’m exhausted after reading this, I read it in one sitting and absolutely loved it. From the very start we get the sense that our heroine Melina is a tough cookie...she’s strong, independent and determined, but we also see glimpses of someone dealing with unresolved issues. When she’s nearly abducted and escapes with her life and the perpetrators blood, she is shocked to discover she just had a run in with a serial Killer. Thrown together with our Hero Agent Ramsey, the two of them begin to work the case, but when another case comes up involving an abandoned girl, a jar of severed fingers and a missing women, the similarity between how the girl was abandoned and that of Melinas past can’t be ignored, and when the two cases come to ahead, danger ensues. This story was so gripping, I’ve read a few of Mary Burtons books and this was is her best so far. So much going on, but never to much that the reader loses focus, I wasn’t sure who all the players would be, and there are lots of shocks along the way. Honestly...such a good book |

LOVE this Author. LOVE all her books. REALLY LOVE this book, the 3rd in the series. TBI Agent Melina Shephard puts herself in the crosshairs of a serial killer. FBI Agent Jerrod Ramsey has been trying to catch a serial killer for a long time. The two team up after a suicide is ruled murder. The Author ties the storylines together seamlessly. I was on the edge of my seat a few times while devouring this book in 2 sittings. Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and the Author for the privilege of reading and reviewing this fabulous book. I hope we don't wait long for the next one. |
Sarah Beckett runs the Mission in Nashville, a halfway house for prostitutes, and is trying to trace two girls who haven’t been seen for a while. Her friend, Melina Shepard is an agent in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation who decides to go, unauthorised, undercover to try to find them. While on the street, a male in a van tries to abduct her, but he hadn’t banked on her fighting back or being able to give so much detail about him to the police. Jerrod Ramsey is an FBI agent, who deals with serial killers, and has been on the trail of this one for 10 years. This is a complex and intriguing story, with twists and turns galore, fast paced and very well written. The characters are interesting and believable, not perfect but more believable for that. It deals well with Melinas past. She was abandoned at the side of the road when she was five, no trace of her parents was ever found, Several story lines intermingle but are so well written it’s not confusing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would be more than happy to read more of the authors work again. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for an honest opinion. |
Psychological thriller, murder, Tennessee Bureau of investigation, FBI. Two different serial killers, both after Melina . Will, Melina learn more about her foggy past when at the crash site they find a little girl. Melina will have cope when all sides of her world come |
Never Look Back by Mary Burton, published by Montlake, is a full length, stand-alone in her Criminal Profiler Series. The previous books are Hide and Seek and I See You. Back to Never Look Back. Melina Shepard is a FBI Agent and at this time she's working undercover. When she needs back up, Agent Jerrod Ramsey is assigned to help her. But time's running out for Melina. Never Look Back is a fast paced, complex read, a psychological thriller well written and with a plottwist that kept me in suspense til the last page. A great read, 4,5 stars. |

Gripping from page 1! A story of two serial killers who haunt the same city and have TBI agent Melina Shepard in the crosshairs. Great, charismatic characters. Interesting killers. Plot twists. Edge-of-your-seat action. Even a hint of romance. What more could you want?! |
This book starts off right away when TBI agent Melina is almost abducted by a serial killer. The fact that her police chief dad gave her a knife that she always carried helped her escape. Enter FBI agent Jerrod Ramsey who has been hunting this serial killer for years.....but wait there seems to be two different serial killers. Loved these characters and this book. Bravo to Ms. Burton for interweaving two serial killer story lines. |

This was alittle different writing from this author, but still very good. The extensive backgrounds on each character is want made it so interesting, you understood why they became the people they are, good or bad. There are actually 2 stories in the book, both come together perfectly towards the end. There's murder, manipulation, alittle romance, I hope we see more of Melina and Ramsey, they work so well together. Well written, enjoyable and kept my interest the whole way through. |

In Mary Burton's most recent thriller, we get not one but two serial killers operating in Nashville at the same time. And unlikely as it may be, they are both connected to TBI agent Melina Shephard. Burton manages to weave both storylines together so that Melina must solve one to solve the other. Fortunately, she has the help of FBI agent Jerrod Ramsey who adds a perfect balance to the story. One of my favorite things about Burton's novels is that while she often has a romantic element to the mystery, she never lets it overpower the mystery element. I hate when an author makes the romance take center stage to the point that the mystery is a complete add on to the story. This book is listed as the third in the series but it reads as a stand alone novel. Even though the earlier books in the series are not needed to enjoy this book, I do recommend them simply because they are enjoyable thrillers. |
Thank you to the NetGalley, the author and publisher for this ARC. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a thrilling, fast paced read, with mostly likeable, believable characters with good background stories, two serial killers and lots of twists in the story. It was well written, had my attention right from the start to the end. And what an ending! I will look at other books by this author and recommend this if you like serial murders and books full of suspense. |
