I’m going to start out by saying that I loved this book. Never Look Back is an extraordinary show of wits plotting two serial killers against one woman. This is the kind of story that has you thinking about it during the day wishing you could be reading and not working. It definitely kept me on my toes. Kudos to the author for another job well done. |
A tense, past paced, action packed ride! I enjoyed this book about criminal profilers. This was a dual case and both were enjoyable. The twists were surprising and the plot moved along nicely. The romance part seemed thrown together and came out of nowhere so it didn’t feel authentic. There were quite a few coincidences that were a little too convenient for my tastes. Overall, I enjoyed this book of suspense and will be going back to read the other books in this series. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review. |
My favorite Mary Burton book ever. The plot is intense. Melina's town has two killers operating. With the help of F.B.I. Agent Ramsey, the race is on. Both cases feature twisted killers. The path takes some dark turns. The reveal was a twist I didn't see coming. The unraveling of Melina's past is intriguing and kept me completely invested. I liked the slow burn build up between Melina and Ramsey. Between the complex characters and intriguing cases I couldn't put this one down. This one is not to be missed. |
5 Stars!! Excellent Murder Mystery! I loved how they turned it into two crimes to solve and how they tied them to each other. Great read that I couldn’t put down. Look forward to reading more from this author. Thanks Netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review. |
Fast moving, toe curling chase to find the killer before he finds you. Along with hunting for the Key Killer Melina must solve her own problems. Melina was adopted but now, whether she likes it or not, she must look into her past before her past looks for her. With the help of an FBI agent, brave Melina, an agent with the Tennessee bureau of investigation must look back to enable her to look forward. |

A suspenseful tale about a TBI agent who stumbles upon a case that involves tracking a serial killer wanted by the FBI. As FBI Agent Jerrod Ramsey and TBI agent Melina Shepard work together, they get pulled in on yet another case. I enjoyed the character development, pacing and the dialogue between characters. Melina is a relatable heroine, and I always like stories with strong female leads. The actual storyline was interesting, though a little contrived and not very believable in the sense of how two cases overlapped-especially the conclusion. This story may be enjoyed by fans of Kendra Elliott and Melinda Leigh. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to review and advance copy. All opinions are my own. |
I enjoyed reading this book. It was hard to put down and I finish it in 2 days. It would have been 1 day but my eyes were tearing up and I was yawning so off to bed I love Mary’s people in the story and hope she writes another book with them in it |

I enjoyed this book. It was not perfect, especially in the characterisation of the protagonists and in the way the story is slightly too conveniently wrapped up - what are the chances of all coincidences happening the way they do in the second half of the book? (trying to avoid spoilers here). All in all, I would read further books in this series, I would happily find out more about Melina and the lot. I would recommend. |
Two serial killers are operating in one area. Different methods but are they linked somehow? Agent Melinda Shepherd works with FBI Agent Jerod Ramsey to investigate and catch the killers. This brilliant book is just a great read. Characters with history and fast paced so you just want to read on to see what twists and turns come next. All I can say is enjoy. |
Never Look Back is packed full of action and is fast paced. The characters are well developed and the story-line is solid. This fast paced book with lots of action kept me completely engaged. Mary Burton is a solid writer. The book had a good story-line with great characters. I liked the hero and heroine, Ramsey and Melina, the way they worked and interacted together was very compelling. Having said that, I was a bit disappointed in the ending as it felt…rushed and unfinished? There are some slight spoilers for the ending in the fifth paragraph of this review, skip over that if you don’t want to be spoiled. This book is a romantic suspense story and there was good balance between the two. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Agent Melina Shepard and FBI Agent Jerrod Ramsey are brought together by one case and ended up investigating two cases simultaneously. Melina is the luckiest unlucky person in the world. Is abandoned as a child, gets adopted by a great family, and then bio family turns out to be psychotic. Escapes a serial killer, serial killer becomes obsessed with her. I liked that the cases were so personal for Melina and that they intersected with her personal life because it allowed us to learn more about Melina, we meet her parents and friends, and get a glimpse of who Melina is away from work. I loved her relationships with her parents, that they’re supportive and loving and don’t ever say, “this job is too dangerous for you” but instead respect her skills, competency, and dedication to the job. Ramsey comes to town for a case and gets teamed up with Melina. They work well together, bouncing ideas off of each other, and actually sharing information while they piece together the evidence and clues to solve two crimes. Both characters are smart, have good instincts, and are very good at their jobs. We learn less about him due to the circumstances in which he arrives (he's from out of town) and to his general nature. There's definitely more layers to Ramsey left to be revealed. Throwing two cases into the mix was interesting. It seemed random, at first, and was sometimes hard to follow but ultimately it worked. Definitely a story that makes you pay attention and use your brain as there are a few twists along the way; not a beachy, breezy summer read. [SPOILERS] As for the ending I mentioned earlier, the last chapter ends with Melina saying, “Are you going to make a fuss?” And Ramsey saying, “Maybe. Yeah, definitely.” But then in the epilogue its all, “In the hospital, he had asked all the right questions, but he kept his emotions in check.” Then she gets discharged and they have no contact for nine days until he shows up at her parent’s house, “The nine days they had no seen each other had diluted the absolute connection they had shared when they had worked together…” The next thing you know he’s told her he’s quit the FBI and they kiss and then it ends and I was just like, “that’s it?” The whole book Burton had done such a brilliant job of building up their relationship, their connection, and then it all just sort of fizzles in the end and I wasn’t sold on them. I’m hoping there will be another book because this one felt so unfinished at the end. [/SPOILERS] On the whole, I really enjoyed this story. It was not a predictable story, I was thrown by a twist or two that I didn’t see coming, and I never once yelled at the heroine for being dumb because she was actually smart and competent at her job! I would like to thank Netgalley for an advance copy of Never Look Back by Mary Burton. |

TBI agent Melina Shepherd is working undercover posing as a prostitute when she narrowly escapes a serial killer who is abducting and murdering prostitutes. FBI agent Jerrod Ramsey enters the case. Melina and Jerrod soon realize they have 2 serial killers operating in the area. I have been reading Mary for years and she never disappoints. This book will grab you from the first page and hold on until the end. It is filled with suspense and twists that will surprise you. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy. |

I could not put this book down. I have not read Mary Burton before but this is a must for the future. I really enjoyed the two main characters Shepherd and Ramsay, and Bonnie - who couldn't love the character. The plot was good, two serial killers made me wonder where this was going, particularly since the emphasis changes as the book progresses. I enjoyed the ending, in fact I enjoyed everything about this one. Highly recommend. |

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agent Melina Shepard takes a huge risk both to herself and her career when she goes solo undercover in order to trap a killer who’s been targeting prostitutes. After a close shave with him it is discovered that this is not a local case. This killer has a long and tangled history. She is sent back up in the form of FBI agent Jerrod Ramsey who’s been after same the killer for some time. Both lone wolves, they nevertheless work well together. While working the case they are called to the scene of a crash in which a young girl has been found. They quickly find themselves involved in the case of another serial killer when the car reveals not only an abandoned child but a grisly find. So now they have two active investigations, one of which will bring back unwelcome memories of Melina’s past; one which itself is shrouded in mystery. This is a fast paced, atmospheric thriller with lots of twists and turns as it races towards its gripping conclusion. This is my first Mary Burton and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were original and well drawn and the slow burn romance did not distract from the plot. Well recommended. |
Never Look Back was a classic crime romance full of suspense and mystery. Melina is a local investigating officer who is strong willed and takes all the risks to catch the bad guy. She becomes victim to a predator and narrowly escapes. She comes to learn he is a serial killer and then begins the investigation with FBI Agent Ramsey. The investigation takes a turn, intertwining with Melina’s past. Mary Burton connects the two crimes together with ease. It was an easy and suspenseful read. I enjoyed all the characters and the slow burn connection between Melina and Ramsey. Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Coming to print in July 2020. Definitely a good read |
Non stop! We meet Melina first. She is with the TBI. A gentlemen, ok, a guy, comes by in a van trying to pick up a prostitute and we are off. The FBI is brought in and we have an intense, very intense at times, suspenseful psychological thriller. Some of the intenseness comes from the anticipation, the oh no, is this going to happen. While working this case Melina is called in on a second case involving a little girl. I was never lost reading this, I understood where I was and what was happening in the story lines. We receive the perspective from all parties involved which made it a little more heart wrenching. There are twists, turns, and surprises. An oh wow surprise. Even though this is book 3 in the profile series you can completely read this as a stand alone with no problem. I read it in one day, and I highly recommend reading with family in the house. Thank you Montlake, NetGalley and the awesome Mary Burton for the arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own and were unsolicited. I freely volunteer to share them. |
Never Look Back starts off with a Bam and readers will be pulled into the story unable to put it down leaving them tried the next morning. The characters are tragic as always but they always seem to have a light that keeps them from destruction or death. Melina and Jerrod work well together as they fight though the crime that is present to them in a way that will turn the stomach of even the hardest edge agents. The story flows smooth and the different points of view will have readers wanting more. Mary Burton is able to tell a chilling story with madness that will have readers wanting more. Thank you to Netgelley and the publisher for the advance copy of Mary Burton Never Look Back. |
I loved this book. It kept me engaged and interested the entire time. Two serial killers that both have a mutual interest... mutual interest as in the main character. Definitely fast paced and exciting. |
