I hadn’t realised this was part of a series and haven’t been able to read the others. However this book is based on an airplane being blown up carrying potential the next American president. Not a big fan of political thirillers but was a good read

A jumbo jet carrying more than 500 passengers explodes over the Atlantic killing all on board, among them a possible US presidential candidate. But who is responsible? is it the Syrian refugee who has admitted placing a suitcase on board or is the truth something much more sinister?

This is an enjoyable if implausible thriller full of unlikely scenarios as thrillers tend to be. It's going to be made into a TV series and I'll most likely watch it. It's the third in a series about Michael Devlin (one of the main characters though not the principal player here) and you certainly don't have to have read the others to enjoy this one.

Recommended if you like your thrillers violent and hard-hitting. Also a must if you like conspiracy theories. This isn't my usual type of read. I prefer my thrillers to have an element of plausibility in them. Having said that though I did zoom through this in no time at all. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

First publication I've read by Tony Kent.
Decent political thriller, although I enjoyed it it just didn't have that wow factor for me and on that basis it's a three stars from me

Topical and scary.

A plane goes down over the ocean killing all those on board including the US presidential candidate. Power struggles at the highest echelon of society, the investigation and exploration of terrorism, the plight of immigrants and a lot of legal wrangling and excitement. Well, the author is a barrister himself!
.
It's a intriguing thriller of the highest order taking in a Syrian refugee baggage handler, someone who runs into a london police station and claims responsibility for the attack, suspicious on the president themself and then further to Afghanistan.

A fantastic, fast paced thrill of a read.

Gritty ,political thriller with lots of twists and turns. A plot which changes course several times and interesting characters. Many layers to be uncovered before we reach the truth.

This is the third book in this series. I haven’t read the previous ones but that doesn’t impact on the enjoyment of this thriller.
An American Airlines plane, carrying the Republican candidate favourite to win the USA presidential race is on board, is blown up en route from London to JFK.
Joe Dempsey, a Brit, and the ISB team are given the job to find out if the presidential candidate was the target..
This is a fast moving, action packed book with the current president under suspicion of involvement in the bombing.
Lots of detail in this book which gives the reader a better understanding of international policing and terrorism .

I was kindly provided with a copy of Power play by Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

It’s no secret I loved the first two books in the Devlin/Dempsey series by Tony Kent, I put it all over Twitter! So as soon as I saw him post that his new book was up on Netgalley, I was requesting a copy.

However, in my humble opinion, Power Play is his best one yet. The book had me hooked from page one and is hard to put down due the fast pace.
I really enjoyed the character development for Dempsey and felt we got to see him play a bigger role in this book. I really enjoyed the move to America for this book and found it brought new life to the series.

I’ve seen on twitter than Mr Kent is writing his fourth book but work is keeping him busy. So I’m asking that everyone behaves and stays out of trouble so that work is quiet and he can concentrate on getting book number 4 out as I don’t want to wait!

PowerPlay is an absolute cracker of a thriller, everything you want from a book. Great characters good and evil, a well constructed absolutely page turning story set in different locations around the globe.
A plane explodes killing over 500 passengers one of them a charismatic US presidential candidate. A covert intelligence operation is put into play, could the President of the USA ordered this to ensure he is re elected for the next term? Barrister Micheal Devlin and agent Joe Dempsey are targeted when they fight to find out the truth of this atrocity.
No spoilers, just let this thriller take you on a rollercoaster of a ride. I’ve already downloaded this authors previous book and can’t wait for his next, I hope he’s a quick writer!
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly and introducing me to this author.

Very good. This was a very fast paced conspiracy theory novel with strong characters. I have not read any of his previous books but will look out for them. Recommended.

This may be an unlikely sequence of events but it undoubtedly works as a story. The President is not as powerful as he should be and the question needing resolved is who he is answerable to. The destruction of an airliner with his potential challenger on board starts doubting amongst others with influence and leads to a remarkable sequence of events. Don't try to keep count of the number of deaths! This is well written, with a gripping storyline. It offers changes of direction just as the answer seems obvious. The question is who is behind all this misuse of power and that is only discovered gradually. This is a good read.

This is a fast-paced, gripping thriller with all the ingredients of a best-seller. It's not really my cup of tea, but if you like twisty action-drama, with a high body-count, you will love this book, hence the five stars.

Power Play by Tony Kent ticks all the boxes for it to be a number one best seller. The hook, the black ops, the maverick agent and a great story spanning the world. I don’t know what this says about me but there are stereotypes in abundance and I still find it a riveting read. Bearing in mind this was an advance uncorrected proof, I do hope the fibre-optic sling can get reworked in to something plausible. As we all know, fibre-optics convey light waves without significant loss, along their length, over great distances. Whilst sound can be converted to light using analogue or digital techniques, why bother when you can get a micro-miniature sound and video recorder from China for a few dollars, easily hidden in the fabric of a sling? This technological hiccough marred an otherwise excellent novel.

I was lucky to have been given the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book through NetGalley in return for an honest review. Thanks to Elliott and Thompson publishers.

This is the third in a series, but there is no need to have read the earlier books, Killer Intent and Marked for Death although you will want to if this is your first.

An American Airlines jumbo jet flying over the Pacific ocean, from Heathrow heading for JFK goes down killing all 534 passengers on board.

Dale Victor, a candidate for the republican nomination for the next President of the USA was on board along with his wife and staff.

Nizar Mansour, a Syrian refugee and baggage handler at Heathrow, sits in a bar and impatiently waits for a phone call. He glances up at the large TV screen and reads the headline. He realises he is never going to receive that call. He leaves for home a short walk away, but as he nears his flat what he sees makes him realise his life is in imminent danger.

Nizar bursts into a police station, out of breath and confesses to planting the bomb on the plane, appearing to be running from someone.

Joe Dempsey, ex military and now working for The International Security Bureau which is the special intelligence division of the UN Security Council, is tasked with investigating the possibility that the plane crash was a targeted attack to take down Dale Victor.

What follows is a non stop action packed search for the truth. Could this have been a hit authorised by the President himself? Joe must find out the truth and obtain proof, which ultimately takes him to Afghanistan.

A fantastic read I would highly recommend.

Well, if I could give this book six stars then I would. I have read both previous Michael Devlin thrillers and was eagerly looking forward to this one.

The main surprise is that Devlin and his girlfriend largely take a back seat and it is Joe Dempsey the undercover agent who emerges as the ultimate hero.

The plot is fairly convoluted and I will not provide any spoilers but it hinges upon treachery, blackmail and double crossing at the highest levels of government with wide ranging and dreadful ramifications.

The excitement was palpable and breathless and I read this in a couple of days.

An exceptionally well written and plotted thriller that is highly recommended.

What do you get if you mix a top barrister, a beautiful reporter, an incorruptible cop, a secret service agent and a special forces tough guy on both sides of the pond?
You get an explosive, high octane thriller that will grip you from the first page to the very satisfying conclusion.
I was really excited when I saw this one flash up on my home page because I'd read his previous two novels and he was most definitely on my radar. This one certainly didn't disappoint. It is intelligently written, pacy and hugely satisfying.
Will most definitely look out for more by Mr Kent.

This is the third book in the Michael Devlin legal thriller series by Tony Kent and it is every bit as exciting as the previous two.
In this book Agent Joe Dempsey takes a more central role and Barrister Devlin along with Sarah, his reporter fiancée have less to do although there is one great scene on the London Underground featuring Devlin which had me on the edge of my seat.
This book starts with the bombing of a passenger aircraft but it ends with a conspiracy which goes all the way to the top.
Dempsey and Devlin must battle to find the truth about those responsible for the disaster. Is it really the Syrian refugee who is quickly arrested or is it someone else? Along the way they have to avoid the danger the case throws at them.
If you like action packed thrillers with several twists you will surely like this book.
Inside information about the legal profession really added to the enjoyment of this novel. The author is a practising barrister and seemingly a Londoner so there was a lot of local knowledge about the city which I could relate to.
When I got to the last page I was sorely disappointed......... because I knew it would be a while before I could read the next in this great series!
This one is published in May so I suggest preordering your copy!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.

Joe Dempsey is back! And even though a confession is in hand regarding the murder of a presidential candidate (and hundreds of others, Joe knows better. Facing unseen, but powerful foes, he unravels the mystery in a very enjoyable addition to an excellent series.
