A useful guide, and an interesting read for me as I plan to retire within the next decade. Although it has a Canadian backdrop, the advice can be universal.

It's an interesting book on how to retire debt free and wealthy. It looks at it from a Canadian point of view but could be used elsewhere in the world.

Throughout the book there are case studies of what clients have done to achieve this. Many up to page 106 have a mortgage and debts. They re-mortgage, consolidate their debts or perhaps move to a smaller property to be debt free by the time they retire.

Then there is a section on using rental income from properties to increase your wealth. Over the years many people in the UK are using this to make money, though now the government has started to reduce the benefits through financial changes so you can get less from a rental income.

The Ways to Save every day chapter, gives you ideas on how to make small changes to save money, such as cut the grass yourself instead of using a gardener, turn the thermostat down, reuse stuff, reduce memberships, plus more. Many of the mantra's are used by Martin Lewis on his Money Saving Expert website.

Investing 101 is a small chapter, explaining fixed income investing and guided stock portfolios, but no real detail in how to go about it - for that you need an adviser.

There are a few more chapters on retirement, divorce, starting over which again include many case studies, which are interesting, but perhaps overall they are over used throughout the book. Without them the book would probably be a third smaller.

Overall, much of the suggestions I have seen before or am aware of, so didn't learn a lot.

My personal theme for 2020 looks like it is turning out to be "wealth". I've been reading more about getting and keeping my financial house in order and I was looking forward to reading this book, too. I really appreciated the variety of stories and examples found in the book. However, I did not realize that the book was targeted mainly to those in Canada. While the overall themes and advice of the book could be useful to anyone regardless of geography, some of the specifics were a bit lost on me. I think this would be an excellent reference for Canadians, though!

The author gave really good tips on how to pay off debt and plan for retirement, no matter how close to it you are! I thought that the writing style was excellent, as the author didn't come off as judging the reader for having financial issues. It genuinely felt like she wants everyone to achieve financial success. The tools provided by the author to understand your personal situation and plan improvement were really helpful.

There was a lot of interesting and useful information in this book.

Unfortunately, a lot of the case study examples used in the book are not in my age range, so it felt a bit hard for me to connect with those lessons. However, when I started thinking of the ideas in the book from the point of view of my family members who are closer to retirement, I think a lot of the chapters could be really helpful to them.

There was also some mention of Canadian laws and to be honest, I'm not sure if we have similar laws in the US. Meeting with a coach or adviser like the author of this book would easily clear that up though.

The style of writing made this book a fairly easy to understand, and interesting read. I would recommend it to family members who are closer in age to the individuals in the book to get ideas (keeping in mind that some rules and regulations may be different in different locations).

We all want to know How to Retire Debt-free and Wealthy. So, there have been many books attempting to address this issue. This book gets it right—offering many different routes to a pleasant retirement. Plus it includes step-by-step plans depending on your situation and the timeframe of your retirement.

The basic plan is simple with only five steps to be completed in this order:
1. Eliminate all debt except your mortgage and refinance if you have to.
2. Set up your mortgage to be paid off by your retirement date. Either refinance your mortgage to the number of working years left or pay enough additional money each month to pay it off by your retirement.
3. Track your expenses and revenues daily.
4. Get your total debt servicing ratio to 40% or below (the math formula is in the book).
5. Explore ways to increase your wealth. The method depends on many factors but especially how close you are to retirement.

Overall, I love the ease in which the author encourages everyone to better their situation without assigning blame for how they got there. She also pushes her clients and readers to really think about the future—rather than mindlessly buying that larger house or fancier car. You really are the CEO of your own life! How to Retire Debt-free and Wealthy is not just for people considering retirement. These methods will increase any one’s wealth by logically planning for the future at any time of life. 5 stars!

This is very good. It's really solid info that basically everyone needs. Note that it has a Canadian focus, so a couple of sections have info not relevant to those in the US. I read this quickly partly because I skipped some sections that weren't relevant to me. Lots of great examples and scenarios covering everything from debt, mortgages, investment properties, and more. No book contains all the info you need so this one is just one you should have. Clear, friendly language (and there is a little math). Well written. Recommended.
