Brave Girl, Quiet Girl is only my second Catherine Ryan Hyde novel, and I can now say that she will be a go-to author for me. This story, with the underlying theme of mother/ daughter relationships, made me feel so many different emotions. Brooke, a divorced single mom staying with her very angry and domineering mother, is trying to save enough to move on her own. This is so hard when child care is considered. So she is basically stuck in this unhappy situation. The other main character is Molly. A sixteen year old living on the street of LA after being thrown out of her home in Utah. She too had a not to good mother figure at home. A traumatic life changing event brings our two main characters together. Their subsequent journey is one I'll remember, especially being a mother myself. Well written and hard to put down, with insights on different social problems such as homelessness, I would highly recommend this heartwarming novel.

5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book so much! It was so beautifully written. I was worried at first that it would drag out with Etta missing but it didn’t. It starts off with a bang and goes right into the story. It never once dragged on or got boring. It was such an emotional book. To read about Molly’s life and her struggles being homeless...but then how she felt so protective of Etta when she found her...it is sure to make you tear up at times. Then the bond that Brooke and Molly developed. Brooke was obviously torn at first and you couldn’t tell if it was a feeling of pity for Molly or love that kept drawing her back to her. I didn’t predict the reason Molly was homeless but I thought for sure it would end with a reunion with her parents but you will just have to read it to find out if I was correct or not. I highly recommend this book if you’re in the mood for a very emotional and touching novel. This is my first book by this author but will not be my last.

4.5 stars! This is another great book by Catherine Ryan Hyde, one that tackles sensitive subjects with grace and aplomb. It has fear, horror, grace, and above all, heart. My heart really broke for Brooke when her daughter was gone, and for Molly in basically every chapter. I really enjoyed this book, even when it was hard to read - certain parts of this book made me so angry I wanted to throw my Kindle. But I didn't, because I had to know how it ended. I think it ended the best way it possibly could. I cant wait for my next CRH book!

Oh my gosh! I absolutely loved this book. I loved Molly, Grace, and especially Etta. This book touched my heartstrings from page 1 until I finished the last page with a smile on my face. The back story of poor Molly is, unfortunately, happening throughout the world today. As more youth are coming out to their parents they are finding themselves with nowhere to live. This was a fabulous book that I will be recommending like crazy. Thank you Catherine Ryan Hyde for writing this beautiful story. Thank you to Netgalley for the early read.

Brave Girl, Quiet Girl, there couldn't be any better title for this story. When I read the blurb I thought the story was about Molly finding Etta and trying to protect her and making sure she goes backs to her mother. But I can assure you the story is deeper than what I expected before I read it. I'm sure anyone can find some part from themselves and love this story. While reading this story I felt all the feelings I could have. I was worried, sad, scared, happy, angry, bewildered, helpless, and clueless with Molly and Brooke. I liked Brooke too but I love Molly she is such a charming girl. :)) Just listen to me and read this firstly sad but heartwarming story.

This story and all the characters felt so real to me. Catherine Ryan Hyde can really make characters real with just a couple of sentences. They are all real clumsy, with all their flaws, with some bad and good side. I really like how some characters making some mess and trying to fix it, it was cute :)) This is the second book I read by Catherine Ryan Hyde. When I read Stay she became one of my favorite authors. But I didn't think I would love this much her other books, now I'm sure I should read her all the other books.

Thanks to #NetGalley and the Lake Union Publishing Group providing me a copy of #BraveGirlQuietGirl in exchange for an unbiased review and making this available!

P.s. At publishing time (19 May 2020), I will add this review in my Goodreads account and the retail sites in which this book will be available.

Brave Girl, Quiet Girl by Catherine Ryan Hyde is a simply fabulous read by an author who so rarely, if ever, disappoints. I devoured this one in a single session, so drawn in was I by the compelling storyline and richly drawn and empathetic characters. This is classic storytelling, and I would recommend this novel to anyone who has not previously enjoyed the writing of this true gem of an author.

Brooke is a single mother to two year old daughter Etta when she is violently carjacked, and must watch helplessly as her beloved child disappears into the LA night. At the end of baby Etta's terrifying journey, she is found by a homeless teen named Molly, who acts as a surrogate mother to Etta when she is at her most vulnerable. As Brooke frantically awaits news of her daughter's whereabouts, she must unknowingly rely on the kindness of a teenage stranger to safeguard her most precious treasure, her innocent baby daughter.

Brought together by horrific circumstances, the events unfold from the alternating perspectives of the two women, whose only connection appears to be their shared love of a little girl. This is a story that is told with understanding and compassion, and these are characters that will surely stay with you for a very long time.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC.

Brave Girl, Quiet Girl by Catherine Hyde Reviewed on May 5
My first Catherine Hyde novel and she has 35 published. Where have I been?

This was such an emotion ride. Not sure what I was expecting when I started this novel.
Certainly was a pager-turner. Yet I feared what was going to be on the next page.

Story is about the complex relationships between Mothers and Daughters.
Can’t help but love Molly ~ her relationship with baby Etta was so precious. I was so sad for Brooke’s situation. As a mother of two daughters, I cannot believe that their mothers were so heartless. I was sure there had to be some reason behind Brooke’s mother’s bitterness.
Story kept me curious and I kept hoping for a happy ending.

Want to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishers for this early release granted to me in exchange for an honest professional review. Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 19, 2020

I think I will be in the minority on this one, but I did not like this book. I actually speed-skimmed it because I wanted to see the resolution of the story, but I did not enjoy it.
Brooke is a divorced, single mom who is doing her best to do it all. She has been forced to live at home with her negative, domineering mother while she gets her finances under control. While out one night with her 2-year old daughter, she is a victim of a carjacking, with her daughter still strapped in the back seat. Thankfully she is found by Molly, a runaway on the streets. What follows is the story of how both women are able to find themselves and find hope for the future. While I wish I could say differently, I didn't enjoy it.

Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC for my honest opinion.

This story didnt catch my interest at first.I set it aside perhaps the dialogue confused me first, but weeks later, I picked it it again..it was an emotional feel like story,A young 16 yr old Molly who didnt ask to be a foster child, a young toddler ,kidnapped ,who has an unnurturing mother, who then realizes how much, despite circumstances, a child can still return love unconditionally.
This is a suspenseful dramatic mystery that had me wanting to reach in and give these two minors a hug and hope the ending rewards them for their worth to the world.
I recommend this book highly..

This is my 4th or 5th Catherine Ryan Hyde book. Boy oh boy does she know how to play with your emotions. I was scared for or hurting for Molly and Brooke several times in this book. Of course the car jacking and child abduction is going to play with with your heart, but there were so places where my heart hurt for Brooke or Molly. I felt that sometimes Molly seemed a little non-street smart for being a teen living on the streets. However, Molly had the kindest, most forgiving heart. I couldn't help but like her and root for her. At first, Brooke seemed as if maybe she was going to be a bit like her mother, but once she read the account of Molly and Etta's night on the street before she was safely returned, she say the error of her ways, I enjoyed this book and truly loved the ending.

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of Brave Girl, Quiet Girl. All opinions express are my own.

Brave Girl, Quiet Girl centers around mother, daughter relationships. One mother looses a child intentionally, one mother looses her child because she is a negative, loveless human being and another mother looses her child accidentally. I do love books by Catherine Ryan Hyde. She has a way with words that make you feel like you are living in the story. Her books are a perfect escape for me when I need a break from historical fiction.

Molly is a homeless teenager and Brooke is the single mother of her two year old Daughter, Etta. Through the entire book my heart ached for Molly and for Brooke and all I wanted to do was jump through the pages and give them both a big, giant hug and let them know they were truly good people.

I found myself so angry that mothers could actually treat their daughters the way they did, especially because their daughters had beautiful souls. I think most little girls who grow up to be mothers either want to be exactly like their mothers if they had good mothers or they want to be the exact opposite of them. Molly and Brooke are two women who choose the path of becoming their mothers total oppositeS and what a good decision it was for both of them.

Thank you NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Look for this book to come out May 19th. It is another great book by Catherine Ryan Hyde.

Brave Girl, Quiet Girl by Catherine Ryan Hyde
I cannot say enough good things about this book. I experienced so many emotions while reading it. It really had me thinking about life, societal norms and things we take for granted.
As always, the author has developed characters that are relatable. I felt like I was there with them. I could feel their emotions, feel their ups and downs. At one point in the story, the question arises as to how long it takes to love someone. Could you love someone immediately? How much time is enough or not enough to know how you feel? Deep!
Societal norms. Not everyone grew up in the same environment. Not everyone thinks the way we do. We are all different and unique. And that is okay. Trying to understand that however, can sometimes require a bit of a learning curve.
This book will leave you breathless and wanting more. It is truly a wonderfully written story that will have you staying up late to learn the fate of all of the characters. Enjoy!!!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an Advance Reader Copy at my request in exchange for an honest review.

Once again Catherine Ryan Hyde uses her amazing writing-voice to give us a story that is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching. I have never been disappointed in one of her books as each one so clearly describes the characters, their personalities, and their inner thoughts as well as defines their place in the telling of the story. This book is definitely about the relationships between mothers and daughters, but it is also a story about compassion and learning the importance of being compassionate. Brooke is a young divorced woman with a two-year old daughter, Emma. Due to financial circumstances, Brooke finds herself moving home with her mother, with whom she has always had a tumultuous relationship. The character, Molly, is brought into the story when Brooke is carjacked and her daughter is endangered. Molly is a homeless teenager, thrown out of her home by her mother, and now living on the streets with her friend. But Molly has not become hardened to the life, and her compassionate nature brings her into the lives of Brooke and Emma. The way that the lives of the three become entwined plays out through the book by telling the story by alternating chapters through the voices of Molly or Brooke. Each come face-to-face with dealing with their relationship with their mothers, as their friendship grows.. Would definitely recommend to other readers. (4.5 stars if I could do the 1/2!!). I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing in return for an honest review, which this has been. #NetGalley. #BraveGirlQuietGirl

Two worlds collide with a carjacking. Single, divorced mom Brooke is temporarily living with her difficult mother as she tries to survive financially. Molly, a homeless teen, is barely surviving, living in a crate on the streets of Los Angeles. One night, Molly's car is hijacked with her two year old daughter, Etta, in the back seat. Miles away, Etta is discarded on the street, to be rescued by Molly, who protects her from the hostile environment and unsavory people until she can get her to safety to the police. Both desperate and alone, Molly and Brooke forge an unlikely and trusting friendship, over time. The reader is quickly drawn into the difficulties of a young mother barely surviving, living from paycheck to paycheck, and a young teen, thrown away by uncaring parents, who may be unkempt and dirty, but who is honest and caring. A lovely book--another winner by Catherine Ryan Hyde. 4.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ebook, for an honest review.

I read one of Catherine Ryan Hyde’s most famous books, Pay It Forward, years ago. I really enjoyed it and don’t really know why I didn’t check out any of her other books. Brave Girl, Quiet Girl is my third book of hers that I’ve read in the past year or so. All three of them are very good. Hyde has a way of writing a story that pulls you all the way in, heart and all! Her latest, Brave Girl, Quiet Girl, is a story about a young homeless girl, and a single mother struggling to make an independent life for herself and her two year old daughter. You learn a bit about what life is like for a person on the streets, but, I think more importantly, this book is about relationships. Mother/daughter relationships play an important role. Both characters have troubled relationships with their mothers. Can they work through their feelings about their mothers and form a new family to support each other? You’ll have to read for yourself to find out!

I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion. The story begins with a carjacking and the car that was stolen is carrying a two year old, Etta, in the back seat. The person who took the car leaves Etta in her car seat on a sidewalk where there are many homeless people. Molly, 16 and homeless, finds her and takes care of her until she can get someone to contact the police. In the meantime, Etta's mommy, Brooklyn, is going frantic not knowing where her baby girl is at. Brooklyn gets Etta back and forms a bond with Molly and really wants to help her get a home. It was interesting learning things about homeless people.

Catherine Ryan Hyde is an author who knows how to tell those lump in your throat stories that readers pass to their friends who then pass them to their friends. The central characters in BRAVE GIRL, QUIET GIRL live in drastically different circumstances, yet find themselves drawn together when this young homeless teen protects and returns a kidnapped toddler to her frantic mother. As they bond over care for the child, these women learn more about themselves and the world that has been forced upon them. An excellent story by an excellent author.
