Excellent for relaxationa and creative expresión!

Watercolor is one of my favorite hobbies, I have been self-taught for many years. On the other hand, as a Facilitator in Energy Psychotherapy I have been interested in Art therapy and therapeutic Mindfulness. Exploring this book, I believe it has a lot of therapeutic potential. Practicing this art can promote a relaxed state of attention in people.

With this technique the results can be pleasantly surprising, the combination of colors and the way in which they blend seamlessly creating abstract patterns. It has a degree of control that requires practice and attention, so you can immerse yourself or become absorbed by its execution. This art requires being mindful in the now, but also curious about what will result, what can trigger a Grit / Zone state. All of this effectively encourages relaxation and fulfillment of personal creative expression. It is an interesting book to learn as a hobby, as a complement for artists or craftsmen, to make original gifts, to decorate your home or as a relaxing de-stress therapy.

My sincere appreciation to the Publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to review the book

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. I loved it! The techniques are all clearly explained, with colour photos. It's a very handy guide for beginners. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

I liked looking at all of the beautiful photos of the paint pouring techniques. The instructions are clear and well illustrated. My favorite was the feather made with the string pulling technique..

This book if a great beginner's book with very clear instructions and explanations so you can learn the basics of pouring as well as details on the tools and materials you will need. There are also additional tutorials once you are comfortable with the basic techniques so even those who are a little more advanced can use this book.

Fantastic book that detail a ton of different methods of paint pouring. Even though this book builds on the first one, it still covers need-to-know info about materials and supplies. I really liked the step-by-step photos showing how to do each method.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Art of Paint Pouring is a new tutorial technique guide to painting with fluid media written by Amanda VanEver. Due out 3rd March 2020 from Quarto on their Walter Foster imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback format.

This is the second book by this author which I've reviewed (fairly) recently. Although this one includes some new techniques and themes and builds on the techniques from the other book, it still includes a solid introduction and beginning technique tutorial so can certainly be used as a standalone.

The book is accessible and upbeat (and very colorful). The book begins with an introduction and background including materials and tools, a little bit of color theory, some specifics on creating texture ("cells") with resist media, finishing techniques, and saving unused materials. The introductory chapters represent roughly half of the page content. These chapters are followed by 14 (by my count) individual tutorials on techniques, surfaces, and decorative projects along with extra techniques and alternative finishes.

The book includes a really lovely gallery collection of pieces for inspiration and study. There is no index, bibliography, or resource lists (but the supplies are very easily sourced in person or online).

Four stars.

If you like the casual spontaneous outcomes when making art, you'll love paint pouring. In addition to the basic techniques, you'll learn how to customize your artwork.

Though the techniques are simple, they can be refined with practice and become the foundation to create interesting and exciting color mixing and shapes. Recommended for beginners who want to explore this new technique.

I really enjoyed this how-to book. Paint pouring has always attracted me but I didn't know where to start. Amanda VanEver breaks it down so it's easy to understand and I can't wait to start working on my newest crafting projects.

Oh, wow!!! This was an easy book to read. In the beginning, I was only interested in seeing how paint pouring worked…had no plans of ever doing it. But, that said, the bright colored pictures and the easy to read instructions made me think that, “Yes! I can do that!” My next thought was that this would be a fun thing to do at a small, adult party…while maybe drinking some wine. This is supposedly the second book, with the first one being a little simpler, but I think that since we’re just going to do it for fun and a good time, that this could be all I need to get that party going. Definitely going to find a hard copy of this to add to my library.

This is a lovely book for experimenting with new art forms. In the modern day more and more of us are spending more time behind screens, but we are increasingly aware of the dangers of this and more than ever people are turning to creative pursuits such as painting, to improve our mental health and practice mindfulness, as well as for the sheer joy of it.
This book is a great introduction to poured painting styles, with different techniques you can try to create different patterns like marble, waves, bubbles, stripes, rings and more. There are lots of ideas for how to use the artwork and for painting on different useful items, like plant pots, coasters, wood, canvas, and even how to make your creations into jewellery.
There are also instructions on how to fix the paint according to different materials and surfaces used. Please pay attention to these for safety reasons as some chemicals must be used with a lot of care and in a well-ventilated area.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Do you want to pour acrylic paint?
Fluid-art artist Amanda VanEver's book "The Art of Paint Pouring: Swipe, Swirl & Spin. 50+ tips, techniques, and step-by-step exercises for creating colorful fluid art", published by Quarto Publishing Group - Walter Foster is the companion book to "The Art of Paint Pouring", written by the same author. Whereas other artists use acrylic inks, gel stains or other mediums for their art, VanEver creates her art using acrylic paints. Her first part of the book covers the topics of Tools & Materials, Color Basics (including man useful sample color palettes), Preparing to Paint, Mixing Paint, and (the very useful topic) Saving Leftover Paint. The second part of the book covers fourteen step-by-step projects, some of them even with variations. VanEver presents the projects with a step-by-step approach which is really helpful to readers who want to reproduce a particular project.
The book is presented with great pictures and a marvelous design. There are safety tips, tips and instruction that make it a really helpful tool. The book is very inspirational, the "Inspirational gallery" at the end of the book is just adding to this even more. I highly recommend this book for beginning and advanced artists and it would also make a great present for them. The readers need to be aware that the book only contains basic information where to obtain the materials needed, no reference list and index, but that does not diminish its quality.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is a beautifully bright and easy to follow book showing the different techniques and formations of paint pouring. The book gives some fantastic information about techniques, products, safety, ideas and has some really useful tips too.
The book is set out in an eye catching but simple and easy to follow way which is ideal for if you want to read it as you work on a project.

I have seen and read several books on paint pouring in recent months. Admittedly, before attempting my first paint pour, I was one of those people who was a little confused when people said there were real techniques to it. Then, my first one did NOT come out as I anticipated. It was definitely a little more difficult than I expected. At which point I turned to YouTube and also looking at books like this one.
This is my favorite of the books I’ve found so far. The detailed breakdown of all the tools used is super helpful. The photo guided step-by-step projects allow for a real guidance, as well as allowing someone to follow along easily when they are just starting out. And the guidance on how to use these techniques on things other than a canvas was invaluable and a unique touch.

I'm not giving a star review for this book because my own rating would be very low but that doesn't mean that it won't be a great book for others.

Right off the bat you should know that THIS BOOK IS NOT INTENDED TO USE WITH CHILDREN. It's yet another pour painting book that uses highly toxic materials and sometimes dangerous techniques. The results are often gorgeous, but please do not do these with kids. These materials are incredibly bad for your health. She recommends using a respirator mask, protective gloves and eye wear for many of them. The materials are also absolutely terrible for the environment. I know they're pretty and trendy and everyone wants to do them these days, but at least keep that in mind.

Surely someone can write a book using these simple techniques with materials that won't poison us and the world?

That said, VanEver goes into materials, techniques to create effects by dragging string, tilting canvas, using a blow torch to make the bubbles look different, spinning, etc. A few projects like making coasters are provided at the end.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.
