Nancy Herkness does it again! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Loved the aspect of a small-time accountant finding clues that lead to a much, much, much larger crime and the fact that the lead male character didn't just blow her findings off. He actually listened--something that, very often, doesn't happen. Highly recommend to lovers of romantic suspense and those who love to follow every clue, no matter how small.

Confession time...I didn’t read the blurb for Nancy Herkness’s The Money Man. Since becoming a fan of Nancy a few years ago, I just wanted to read the book. I was pleasantly surprised by several things. The Money Man contains a little suspense and both the hero and heroine are accountants!

Alice Thurber isn’t a risk-taker. After growing up in an unsteady, unreliable family, Alice turned to numbers because they were consistent and made sense. Alice owns and runs a small bookkeeping company out of her home in New Jersey. After switching several of her clients over to a new accounting software, she starts to notice little small inconsequential shortfalls in the numbers. After coming up empty as to why this was happening, Alice turns to KRG Consulting Group and their Small Business Initiative, aimed to help small businesses in need.

Derek Killion’s specialty is finance. He represents the “K” in KRG Consulting Group. He never wants to let the fact that the company is now a high-powered consulting firm known worldwide distract him and his partners from their humble beginnings. As a way to honor those who helped them succeed and give back, Derek convinces his partners Leland Rockwell and Tully Gibson to create the KRG Small Business Initiative. Derek is weeks away from having to leave the country on an extended business trip, but when the first request comes into the SBI for help, he doesn’t want to pass it off to one of his partners. Thinking the shortfall is an easy fix, he contacts Alice to meet with her, never expecting she’s about to throw a curveball into his well structured and planned out life.

As Alice and Derek look into the accounting discrepancy, they soon find out there’s more going on than meets the eye. One innocent question on Alice’s part puts her in the crosshairs of a dangerous madman set on revenge. As time runs out, Derek and Alice are going to have learn to be creative in their quest to save their lives and the livelihoods of hundreds.

The Money Man was a book I could not put down. Alice and Derek each prove you can’t judge a book by its cover. Their attraction and connection are instant. I loved the surprise of this being a romance with suspense elements. I loved even more that I was on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen. The main characters of the second and third books have already been introduced. I’m looking forward to seeing how those stories play out, with the heroes being a computer whiz and a security expert.

This one wasn't what I was expecting at all and I loved it! I enjoyed the little bit of mystery, the characters as they developed, and the way this story really truly surprised me. Who knew accountant romance could be sooooo good? Overall, I would read this again and read the rest of the series as it comes out! I've been glad to see it floating around Kindle Unlimited.

Thanks to Nancy Herkness and Netgalley for the ARC!

I voluntarily read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine

This is a first time author for me but I shall be searching out more

A slow burner romance, great characters and a great story

This was my first book by Nancy Herkness and it won’t be the last! I really enjoyed this cute and sexy romance with a dash of suspense! What happens when 2 accountants are solving a financial mystery? We get a steamy and intriguing read!

Derek and Alice had an immediate attraction and I loved watching them act around it. Joined together as a part of a business deal, they couldn’t deny the chemistry they shared, but they tried to keep things professional. However, in the pursuit of solving the mystery and countless fantasies about each other, they crossed the line and grew a lot closer than they intended.

I loved how the author presented the characters in this story. At first glance, they seem to be complete opposites, but with every turned page we see many similarities, from the profession in which they work, to experiences from the past. I loved to see them open up towards each other and the slow demolition of the walls they surrounded themselves. Their passion was palpable and sizzling.

I adored the secondary characters in this story and I can’t wait to read their stories (especially Leland’s!).

Overall, it was a great read, full of tension, hotness and surprises. I really enjoyed solving the financial mystery and the growing romance between main characters. I’ll definitely look out for the next book in this series!

This is the first book I read by this author and was a very good choice, when I read the synopsis while searching at NetGalley for some new books, this one catch my attention at first because of the cover but then the synopsis completely won me.
It had a very interesting plot, the perfect amount of sexual tension, suspense and some villains whom just add the xtra tension to this H and H.
Heroes... now I think they are actually heroes inside the story, Alice and her honesty and responsibility to protect her clients is the reason she opens an investigation with the help of Derek and his company, and friends.
The tension between this two is instantly, right when they’ve meet for the first time, but things gets a little danger for Alice and just like she always dreams about it, Derek became her historical Prince Charming .
This story ends with a HEA and with the perfect epilogue after all the tension we go through mostly the entire book.
I’m totally recommend to all of you who likes a romantic suspense.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing the kindle ebook to review.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first book in a series. Ok I loved the premise! I have a friend a !little like Alice, obsessed with numbers! One aspect I didn't get was all the Regency stuff. That is not my thing at all. Lol. But it's Alice's. I skimmed the epilogue due to that. Derek was just a nice guy. Good story 3.5 stars

With The Money Man, Nancy Herkness proves once again that she is the queen of sweet-start slow-burn hot-sex storytelling.

What could turn the world of a no-nonsense numbers-crunching Regency-romance loving bookkeeper upside down? $3.37. The fourth in a series of small discrepancies that sends conscientious Alice Thurber tumbling out of her orderly world and pulls once-burned-twice-shy pay-it-forward generous CEO Derek Kellion tumbling into it. From this innocent start Nancy Herkness spins a tale where wariness turns to trust, admiration forces internal introspection and attraction leads to love as Derek and Alice join forces to stop a madman from ruining the lives of thousands of small business owners.

I love how the sex Alice and Derek share (wonderfully hot and emotionally satisfying) grows as they grow internally as individuals and externally as a couple. The suspense provides the perfect backdrop for their budding romance and ultimate commitment to each other. I got my copy on the morning of the 14th. I'd finished it by the evening of the 14th. I couldn't put The Money Man down. You won't be able to either.

All hail the Queen!

Thanks for another great story. : )

Really enjoyed the book it is fairly fast paced and the story line kept me hooked. I liked the character of Alice - refreshing to have an intelligent female lead. Derek is also exactly the kind of leading man I like.
The only part of the book I didn’t enjoy was the epilogue. I didn’t enjoy the whole regency references but I understand that was part of the character.

Great description of the characters. The book flowed easy and was able to keep my interest. I loved how the author pulled in the audience with storyline. As you read you learn back stories about each main character and the others in the book. Over all a well rounded great book.

I've read Nancy Herkness once before and really looked forward to reading this story and I was not disappointed. The fact that I am an accountant in my real life made it easy to relate to both Alice and Derek. I've also spent many hours trying to find silly amounts. What I loved about this story is that along with the suspense aspect of what they fall into, Derek and Alice have nearly identical issues with their pasts....not feeling good enough despite current successes. I enjoyed the way they found themselves in each other and how open they were to whatever happened next. I look forward to more in this series.

I really enjoyed this one to a point. Alice is a small town accountant and starts using a new accounting program for her clients that should really only be used as a single family application so she should not be using it in her business but at least she is so OCD she freaks when her clients are short by a few dollars and contacts a Manhattan firm to look into the problem. Derek Killion is a founding partner of KRG and when he meets Alice she is not what he expects. This story was full of heat and chemistry and even some suspense. I was not thrilled with Alice's regency kick but, hey, that is her thing...Overall, this was a great story and I will be on the watch for the next in the series!

She’s small-town business. He’s Manhattan high finance. Together they ignite in a novel about unexpected love and danger by Nancy Herkness, award-winning author of the Wager of Hearts series.
New Jersey bookkeeper Alice Thurber has a carefully constructed risk-free life. Everything in perfect balance. Until little discrepancies show up in her clients’ accounts. Most would ignore it. Not the impeccably precise Alice. In desperation she reaches out to a high-powered consulting firm for help. New York City’s movie-star handsome financial wizard Derek Killion reaches back. All he has to do is smile and Alice’s fantasies stir. A girl can dream, can’t she?
A cofounder of KRG, Derek’s promise is to advise small-business owners in trouble. He never guessed that assisting the diffident but sexy Alice would be so captivating and make it so hard to keep his desires in check. But just as intriguing is the alarming puzzle behind the computer glitch that’s unsettled his client. As the investigation unfolds, they must also confront an attraction too palpable to ignore. Every new dark twist they follow is only bringing them closer together—in passion and in danger.

THE MONEY MAN is the first instalment in Nancy Herkness’ contemporary, adult THE CONSULTANTS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on three friends and business partners Derek Killion, Leland Rockwell, and Tully Gibson who own KRG Consulting Group. This is KRG co-founder Derek Killion, and bookkeeper Alice Thurber’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Derek and Alice) THE MONEY MAN focuses on the building relationship between KRG co-founder Derek Killion, and bookkeeper Alice Thurber, and the search for the truth. Alice Thurber owns a small bookkeeping business but struggles with a few questionable results since installing a new accounting software that leaves her frustrated and looking for help. Enter Derek Killion of KRG Consulting Group, and the man with whom Alice will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Alice and Derek, and the potential fall-out as Derek, Alice and Derek’s partners uncover a dangerous trail of espionage, fraud, computer hackers and the possibility of financial ruin for thousands of small businesses.

Derek Killion doesn’t do relationships in the wake of his engagement that ended badly. Meeting Alice Thurber drew Derek like a moth to a flame but a flame with the potential to burn if he got too close. Alice Thurber believed Derek was out of her league in all things including romance and love. Growing up the daughter of a professional model, Alice never measured up to her mother’s ideals, and in this Alice considers herself less than worthy of Derek’s affections and love. Working together to uncover the truth behind the software anomalies, Derek would soon discover there is more to Alice than book smarts and a pretty face.

The relationship between Alice and Derek begins as a business arrangement when his firm offers ‘free’ services to small, independent firms. From the outset, Derek and Alice fantasized about one another but neither one had dared crossed the line from professional to personal until Derek offered Alice a night out of town. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Derek’s business partners Leland Rockwell, and Tully Gibson; Alice’s mother, and her friends Gabrielle, Natalie and Dawn.

THE MONEY MAN is a story of betrayal and fraud; friendships and partners; romance, relationship, and falling in love. The fast paced premise is imaginative and inviting; the characters are flirty, sassy and real; the romance is spicy and inspiring. THE MONEY MAN is an edgy and captivating introduction to Nancy Herkness’ THE CONSULTANTS series.

Nancy Herkness does it again with a new series that is filled with romance and intrigue. Welcome to her new series The Consultants and the first book is going to wow you from the get-go.

When Alice a small town bookkeeper with a total of 4 clients stumbles on discrepancies within her client's books she knows she cant rest until she figures it out. She reaches out to Derek Killian of KRG Consultants for help. Derek and his partners set up a way to help small businesses in their area as a way to give back and not forget where they came from. When Derek the numbers guy of the 3 hears from Alice he thinks it will be a small matter that will be cleared up in a very short amount of time. When that turns out to not be the case he knows that he needs to work through the problem and Alice being beautiful and smart doesn't hurt either.

Alice is floored that one of the partners of KRG wants to help and him showing interest in mousy her shocks Alice even more. Derek and Alice's partnership leads to more than just a mystery - it also could lead to something much more.

I not going to lie - I love Nancy Herkness. I also love that The Money Man is a little different than her usual romance. I love the mystery that brings together Derek and Alice it adds an additional flare that makes this one of hers a lot of fun to read and so hard to put down. I also love Derek and Alice's friends whom I am hoping will be featured in upcoming books in the series.

This book had quite the twists. There was a little something for everyone that loves
drama, romance and mystery. Who knew a story about accounting could be so
exciting. These characters were written so well that I could easily imagine Alice
sitting in front of her computer going over her numbers and Derek in his penthouse
office running a big business. The details made the story. The mystery of where
Alice's numbers were off and needing Derek's help was intriguing and the flirting
was sweet and sexy from the start. As the story unfolded I was easily drawn into
who was behind this accounting error and what did they hope to gain from it. The
story went by quickly and I enjoyed it.

THE MONEY MAN is the first book in THE CONSULTANTS series, and I can’t wait for more. There is a depth to the story with so many layers that had me turning the pages far into the night to see what would happen next. And the characters aren’t perfect, which made them seem real.

There is an instant attraction between Derek and Alice when they first discuss her accounting problem. But what could a business mogul in a high-powered international consulting firm have in common with a small town bookkeeper? Numbers!

Alice starts out mousy but holds her own against Derek and his business associates. The story twists and turns but moves forward at the right pace. We get to know the characters and their issues a little at a time.

The story has both funny moments and deeper emotional ones. Filled with family, business, and a blossoming romance that heats up in the bedroom, THE MONEY MAN is well worth the read.

The romantic epilogue that takes places six months later is the icing on the cake. I just wish it went a little farther than it did. I can only hope that we pick up where this book ends when the next book, THE HACKER, is issued. I’m so glad Derek’s business partners will have their stories told too!

I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars on this site and others.
