A group of pension age friends move into a French chateau and prove that there is life after retirement! The trials and tribulations of their first year make for entertaining reading.

This book ought to have been a short story. So little seemed to happen for so long and I cared so little about 90% of the characters. I struggled to finish it, and it was only the fact that I wanted to see if it got any better that made me continue. Not for me.

This is an entertaining women’s fiction book.

Based around an older than usual cast of characters (a crowd of retirees and one younger member who is married to one of said retirees) who leave London and move to a Chateau in France. The premise of the story is simple, how will they cope with leaving the UK and living together in a rundown Chateau? I did find myself get frustrated at parts (seriously, who would buy a Chateau that needs a lot of work without a survey? Get a grip of the ex-owner!) and a lot of the plot was obvious (an affair, a younger man), but there was one twist I did not expect.

It is slow to start, but stick with it. A solid, entertaining read.

A lovely book - not my usual style fully as I love a good women’s fiction book but this one featured characters older than I’m used to.

Nevertheless I enjoyed it. I found it a little slow to start with as it kept jumping forward in time with not much explanation so a little confusing but once I got past and got used to that I devoured it and loved it.

Would love to read a book 2 about the family members!

Well this was a refreshing read! a group of friends move to Normandy and source a home for them all to live in. It turns out to be an old house called le chateau lafarge. It's ramshackle and in need of TLC but it's theirs and this is their dream.

Who hasn't wanted to sell up and move away somewhere? When you're young, you travel and dream of such things but is life really over at 50? This was refreshing in that the group in this novel are all of the older generation but not that old! There's more humour and action in this lot than a lot of younger ones. There's worry, regrets, doubts but the sheer exuberance of those who travel to their dreams is catching!

This is a fresh and fun read . I just only wish the castle and house were real! It was interesting to know that the author herself had a dream to move to france and did just that, to Paris, for ten years. I imagine a lot of the emotions and anecdotes come from her own experiences and memories. The novel is all the more strong because of it

Let's all run off to a castle in france after this!

I loved it and I'm sorry it ended. Nice to read about older (but not old) characters, embarking on a brand new way of life. I'm always a sucker for stories set in France and chateaus, and this book didn't disappoint. Wonderful descriptions of the scenery, and it gives you a flavour of French life, but with the British sense of humour stamped all over it. This isn't all sweetness and light, there is some darkness, but it is ultimately uplifting. I liked all the characters, although Simon did grate at times, and it was an interest concept, a group of friends buying a chateau together. I liked the ending, and I can't help but feel (and hope) we could return . . . With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest (honest!) review.

Truly brilliant. Not only does it have a beautiful cover, the story itself is wonderful.
When 9 friends embark on buying a house together, big enough for them to live together but separate if they wanted, you imagine carnage. You imagine no budget big enough to find a home that suits. That is until they decide looking further afield would be much more beneficial. Will these 9 people be able to live together and live out their hopes of retiring and living happily ever after?

Absolutely brilliant I couldn’t put it down. You won’t be disappointed. Praise for Sarah Long, her style of writing is easy, grab a cuppa settle and enjoy.

Enjoyed reading this book. The story of Nicola and Dom who decide with their friends to by a place abroad.
What follows is a a time of ups and downs in their lives and issues with the property they purchase together.
As well as some heartbreak, there is happiness and new beginnings. Would recommend it.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. How I loved Nicola and husbands Dominic decisions, we should all think of doing a similar thing while we can.
